- Broadway, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51Great. So much for finding what I want on Amazon...
- ChiKoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29Yeah... just how am I supposed to find things on amazon now? What a horrible move! Pretty soon searching on Amazon.com will only be accessible through Internet Explorer.
- brainy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Well it would have been stupid to think that none such fings would happen. As far as I know, it was Amazon, who inspired this deal with Microsoft not vice-versa, because it is afraid that Google (may!) someday introduce a similar FREE service for all and any customer interested. Imho the fight is just starting - we will see who wins.

*Lets out nightmarish, blood-curdling scream*
Gee, thanks for fueling my nightmares for many, many nights. - LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Jinx and Thinkgeek do :)
- TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11""""3. Google is a competitor for Amazon due to their Google Library project.""""""
You have to be kidding. How. How exactly are they competing with Amazon? Can you read copyrighted books cover to cover? Even if you could, do you think most people would rather read them online or have a hard copy? Ever look to the left of those pages? AMAZON links for the book you are viewing!!!!!!!!!!! Non copyrighted books, do you think most people actually read them there online instead of buying on Amazon? Be serious. They are not competing with Amazon at all.
Eric Wilson - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9In a competitive environment like this, the user always wins!...or do we?
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13With Microsoft search in Amazon, what you want on Amazon finds you!
- Omega697, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I wrote Amazon telling them I am no longer using A9 for my main search, 1.57% off be damned. I stopped getting relevant search results and had to start second-searching with Google. Frakk that noise, I'm going back to Google.
- metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Theres always newegg....
unless of course you buy something OTHER than computer parts -_- - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Newegg doesn't sell certain caffeinated beverages.
- KCorax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"In a competitive environment like this, the user always wins!...or do we?"
Who's winning in the blueray/hd-dvd field ?
Certainly not the user... - N3wtR0ckn13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6wtf, u kiss your mother with that mouth. nice.
- joelhardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Um, yes. Microsoft just offered to pay Amazon more than Google was paying them. This deal is all about the $$$, nothing else -- do you think Amazon is rebuilding its search services for kicks?
I just hope Microsoft doesn't outbid Google for the Firefox search box ... it would hurt my eyes to see an MS logo next to the little red 'fox. - bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Because companies hate Google!
@Omega967 Why would you ever OT use google, at my school there are two kinds of kids: Those who use google, and morons. I feel justified in calling them morons when I see them at ask.com typing "Where do I find information on..." - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What did they say in their reply?
- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow! All anti-google posts are being buried.
Google Print competes with book sellers cause millions of books will be put up online. Not everyone needs to read those books cover to cover. I pick up books sometimes and need to read only a few pages for referencing. Amazon loses those book sales.
And Google has been stealing talent from A9 too. Maybe that was the final straw? - phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The latest internet fad appears to be hating google. Forget that they gave you 1 gig of email space, free services, and revolutionized advertising from the stupid "CLICK THE FLASHING BANNER" to simple text ads. Face it, nobody can think of anything to hate about them, so everybody will hate them out of jealousy and competition! Hurray!
- roadrunner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i use a9, because the search results were nothing but google results... and i get pi/2 discount at amazon.com just for using a9..
now it really sucks...i get crappy results when compared with google's results. no wonder google results rocks (though, i think google is going to own our and everybody's data soon and blackmail us in a subtle way) - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9How long before MS releases an Amazon clone?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they do use it.. but a9 has always used google tech for the searches. ..now it uses msn live.
- plasticated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's both Microsoft and Amazon who will lose out. By not giving the customer what they want (google) they devalue their service. The second they start to listen to customers and give them what they want, they start winning. The customer is always right - not them.
- scrum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5this one had a good title.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So this affects what, exactly.. searching for products on the site itself? Meh.
- constantine11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think Google knows where the next battleground is; and it's not A9.com. That's why they're taking Microsoft to court regarding the setting of MSN as the default search engine in IE 7.
I don't think that the casual user uses A9.com. I would also argue that the casual user isn't so brand discriminating that they would change the default search engine on IE 7 if it involved "complex" steps. However, if a user is asked (the first time they launch IE 7) which search engine they prefer as a default, then I do think MSN has big problem vis-a-vis its brand relative to Google.
I'd be interested to find out why people use Google when there is so little real difference between results which is what should matter to a user. Is it speed, the uncluttered interface, because Google is synonymous with search or something else? - Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is why I'm uninstalling my a9.com toolbars. I made a search, like I always do: no images, different results. Then I saw the "Powered by Windows Live." Definite step down...
- Noky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use A9 as a search engine. I liked the tabbed sort of interface when you wanted to search under two headings. But now the image heading is gone because of the switch to Windows Live or whatever it is. So now I'm sad and considering going back to google although I don't want to.
- Kokichi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I love how Google seems to be the underdog, constantly whipping out programs left and right, intimidating even the biggest opponents. Go Google! :P
- sk545, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think its great. Two crappy companies collaborating together. Google doesn't belong with a crap store like Amazon.
- armature, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4this has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of amazon doing. and i've heard of some doozies. I say this mainly because I don't have a clue what live looks like since it won't load at all (at all) in Safari (no clue about the rest of the browsers). And while i realize that MS could give a ***** about that, Amazon.com isn't exactly a "windows only" environment.
- quokkapox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"http://a9.com/your search terms here, spaces and all (although digg wont parse it right)"
You're not using Firefox, are you? Try firefox's "Add a keyword for this search" feature. - flak9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Windows live search just sounds stupid to me. Is it just me?
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not on Amazon, it's on Amazon's A9 search subsidiary. The only purpose of A9 is the spyware-esque toolbar, nobody actually uses it as a search engine!
- racketboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, I use A9 at work daily and was surprised to see that Google wasn't powering them this morning.
I guess I'll see how well it works.
At least the A9 Toolbar still gives me the option of performing the search on Google - squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Will this affect the future of Googlezon???
- joelhardi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3this one was also the only one from a reputable aussie source.
- N3wtR0ckn13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1does anyone else think this also might be in response to a two tiered internet system(that's a possibility), where package deals like this might subvert actual technologocial acheivement...like googles dominance in search.
maybe microsoft and amazon are hoping for a two tiered system, b/c ultimately if it happens...they know either company couldn't compete alone against google on a fair playing grouind. no? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4personally i like being able to type in my search in the address bar
for anyone who doesnt know:
http://a9.com/your search terms here, spaces and all (although digg wont parse it right) - djgump35, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6and this is why dupes are posted, better title, and you get front page..........
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5But... Google search is better! Why would they do something stupid like this?
- ScottNY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I only use A9.com once in a while to get the Pi/2 discount on Amazon.com, but at least prior to this, I could get decent search results at A9. Now I will have to go there every now and then to search for something I don't care about just to get that same discount. I will use Google for anything I need good results for. A9 doesn't even have image results anymore! Way to go Microsoft and Amazon... It's gotta take the best minds from two of the bigger and better known companies in the US to "downgrade" a service's features when "upgrading" the service.
- uziq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure why, but AdMuncher prevents search results from showing up on live.com. I only see the search box.
And even after I closed AdMuncher. live.com locked up Internet Explorer. I tried again, and finally got to do some searches, but it's so sluggish. ugh. I'm not going to upgrade my computer just so I can use that site. - jdonner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Go, go, go, Microsoft! I love you guys! ha!
- MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1will we start getting BlueScreenOfDeath on Amazon now?
- oboreruhito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"fight club" site:amazon.com
oh wow it still works
how about that - MacApprentice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Great; a search site that nobody uses has switched to a search engine that nobody wants. Who gives a flying f__k?
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tried searching "Call For Help" on both A9 and Google. I was expecting to get the godliness that is Leo Laporte's help program. On A9, I got a site telling me about tools for how to make language lessons. Google however gave me exactly what I wanted, callforhelptv.com as the first result. Also, A9's interface looks cluttered IMO. I'm sticking with Google.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like the EPIC 2015 flash video will have to be updated . . . . No Googlezon . . . .
- therernospoons, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I thought Amazon used it's own A9? What a rip--company spends all that time and money on it's own search engine but ends up not using it. LMAO
- pilot3033, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1...the war has begun...
