There is a quick fix to any situation if you're running OS9:
1 Buy a big bottle of Tanqueray Gin
2 Open it.
3 Drink it down as fast as you can. (Hold the bottle with both hands)
4 Smash the empty bottle over your head before you pass out.
5 Repeat this every day until you buy OSX.
bd - tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And--who cares? They want more visitors to MSN--they don't care what browser they use.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol.
- Mediaright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah. Once Steve announced Safari, microsoft canceled Mac IE development. IE for Mac is a dead product and no one should be using it.
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Linking to a tiff file? not cool
- Zoobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1but hey, thanks submitter - for all those exclamation points. I was running out of them. Now I got enough to last me for a decade.
- Yankees368, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahaha, thats funny
- Zoobster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How is this funny, news, or anything? Microsoft deep-sixed the IE for Mac browser three years ago
-no digg. - TheIguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IE for Mac has not been updated in years because of Safari.
Iggy :) - ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Must be becuase IE used to be default browser on mac now there's safari
- Bigfat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Duh, Microsoft dropped mac IE support when Safari was released.
- tekkacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny.
But really does Microsoft care?? No, they make more money in other areas then dealing with Mac users. - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you'll be surprised how many idiots use explorer on macs in my uni, i just want to slap them!
- diggerStaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's always been quite a pain for me as a webmaster. So much of my site's audience are mac users, but a good number use IE for some reason. I've had to do so many work arounds to get pages looking right mac IE when they look fine on any other browser.
- jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@mikew101
if your referring to my post.. It was that all their programs were not being activly developed any longer because of Virtual PC so of course it is being developed. And I quickly corrected myself to including Office as the exception. - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It's not as if Microsoft makes any money selling other products to mac users."
Microsoft office still brings ***** of dough in, otherwise they wouldn't update it all the time - proverb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's funny.
- _kas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Um, OK, this is a bit stupid. Microsoft canceled IE mac development. I can see where you're coming from though. It's not as if Microsoft makes any money selling other products to mac users.
- mojofrojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a shame they stopped support for IE. I still have a Imac running os 9 and I've never used anything else for it. If there are any other guys on this thread that uses os 9 reply back with a better browser if you would.
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they could at least update windows media player
- jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I forgot office.. They haven't stopped that because of the Dollar$. But the division has be cut down by a good amount since they got a good OS X version (2004) and can now just make the usual min. improvements.
- Jasoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh, maybe it's because even MS knows how old and left behing IE MAc is. Anyone who uses IE Mac is a moron. (Unless you use it periodically to check sites that require some form of IE and you already tried Safari's agent changer.)
IE Mac is like Netscape 3.0. Think about it. - KillaKev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bah.. thats dumb. I was hoping you meant for Windows.
- mojofrojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks wet. I'll give netscape a try
- wet_napkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0iCab is available for OS9
- wet_napkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use OS9 and use Netscape 4.77...
It came with my computer, but I think you can get it here:
http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/archive47x.jsp - wet_napkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Or, try this site:

It has virtually every Mac Browser ever made. - mojofrojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I see guys on here saying they hate IE on macs. so what do you suggest? Is there a browser that is still supported or current for macs running os 9?
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF@TIFF?
- mojofrojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a mini with os x on it Boondoggle. and I am a whisky kinda guy for the record. Dosent mean I cant keep the old box running.
- wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sadaly you would be surprised at how many osx people STILL use IE.
- mikew101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft did not stop developing for mac. First they make virtual pc. Second they make office. Also Microsoft plans on developing a new office when macs switch to intel. Even though it will be relatively simple to install windows on a mac with office. There will still be a separate office version for mac on intel for users who will not use windows, but must use office.
- jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not only stopped development of IE but all of mac. Their theory is, now that they own virtual PC for mac that everyone should have windows on their mac. (Maybe if i get a desktop macintel i will.. until then im sticking with my open source)
- McoreD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's simply because Microsoft have stopped development for IE:mac
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I have a mini with os x on it Boondoggle. and I am a whisky kinda guy for the record. Dosent mean I cant keep the old box running."
Absolutely. My recipe above is really for those who have not upgraded at all. But you're going to be running into increasing non-compatibility issues moving forward. Also, there are ways of getting X onto older, not-officially supported hardware. I had Jaguar running pretty well on a Power Computing PowerBase for a while. Software called XpostFacto I think. Another option is to ditch the system and buy a cheapo (sub $200) iMac on eBay that will run X. You can always turn that older machine into a nice linux box.
