- Laughto, on 06/17/2009, -1/+23i have literally never heard anyone say that before
- g33kfu, on 06/17/2009, -0/+10Hey, what about Handbrake?
http://handbrake.fr/ - csw3190, on 06/17/2009, -1/+11VLC might be the best piece piece of freeware ever
- allyant, on 06/17/2009, -0/+9A very basic list.
- Meursault, on 06/17/2009, -0/+6Did your PC tell you Friday was the 18th?
- mozmac, on 06/17/2009, -3/+9and also check out http://www.opensourcemac.org Many of the apps on this list are on there as well.
- vicsvenge, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3I MUCH prefer unrarx to unarchiver. Handles many more file types. Don't forget 7zx as well seeing as the unarchiver cannot handle those types of files either.
- mikeliketrike, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Lifehacker FTW
- Meursault, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Yeah, but I found Launchbar kinda pricey and Google Desktop too slow. I'm not a power user, though, and as long as it has fast launching, I'm satisfied.
- palanthos, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3That's what makes them essential.
- scy1192, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Do they have to put Firefox on every list? No doubt that 100% of their base has heard about it by now.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Not a single mention of Growl? That is -the- essential free Mac download.
- noahpurdy, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2What on earth are you talking about?
In OSX you CAN copy, cut, and paste just the same as you would in Windows. Your complaints of "crashes" and "slow as hell" are relative to your experience with OSX and I'm blaming your intelligence for affecting the three minutes you probably actually used the OS. - arthursk, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Yes! I still have a year to think about how I'll protect myself!
- alamedaman, on 06/17/2009, -2/+3I use VLC, Adium, Firefox, and am checking out Transmission now.
- csw3190, on 06/17/2009, -1/+2Maybe second only to firefox
- Peleus, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1I have used Transmission and kTorrent (a uTorrent clone) on debian and I preferred kTorrent. The Mac version of Transmission is has more features though.
- doctordbx, on 06/17/2009, -3/+4Disappointed Quicksilver made the list in 2008-2009. It's not the app it's cracked up to be.
Just sayin. - rambomcfly, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Not too familiar with uTorrent, but Transmission is definitely worth giving a try. I love it.
- Repeater2000, on 06/17/2009, -1/+2Pretty lame list... Itunes huh? mweh..
- kylehoward, on 06/17/2009, -2/+3Any advantages to Transmission over the uTorrent Beta? I just switched from Windows and automatically downloaded uTorrent.
- Skurt, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1don't need launchy/launchbar easier to hit command-space and type the name of your program.
vlc - enter
fire - enter

what could be simpler? - rrbaker, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1...if you do audio/video work.
- GalacticRerun, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1As long as IE is strong, it's worth mentioning.
- CleoQKazoo, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Adium seems cool but without video chat I might as well use iChat
- surferjoemaui, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1PTH pasteboard, Caffine, Pandoraboy, SimplifiyMedia, google earth
- Verdanic, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1That was about the east enlightening one of these lists I've seen in a while. iTunes? It comes with the computer.
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -0/+1Guilty as charged. Note to self-stop commenting after I've been drinking.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1you cant cut and paste files... try it... guaranteed it wont work
- freakFlag, on 06/17/2009, -0/+0Not only handbrake but Switch, FFMPegX, MacTheRipper, VisualHub should have been on that list.
- SMG1, on 06/21/2009, -0/+0Want this Pack? Go to http://www.radarsync.com/packs/p28374-lifehacker_p ... to download it in one click
- pizzapepper, on 06/18/2009, -0/+0Why can't they give the hardware for free?
Everyone would love that. - eatrains, on 06/17/2009, -1/+1If only it weren't so slow.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -7/+1MAC os sucks. Crashes, doesnt do cut and paste and slow as hell.
- JoshPerson, on 06/17/2009, -10/+1Great. Now all I need is the extra cash for a mac...
- vulcanius, on 06/17/2009, -13/+2Emphasis on free because your wallet is probably empty from buying the Mac.
- charliwag, on 06/17/2009, -17/+3To whoever says that no OS X apps are free needs to check this out.
