- Hamsterpotpies, on 11/10/2007, -4/+66can the app kill its self?
- zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28It automaticlly shuts down everything you don't need (stuff that isn't necessary to run the computer.)
Most people don't know which processes are necessary for windows, this takes care of that. Why isn't it good? - Dested, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28@Monolith, why did you even bother to reply? This program is pretty cool, saves some time.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23"killall -9"!
- Footstick, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24Tried it, and I wasn't even able to connect to the internet with the help of friendly guys on an irc support channel. Twice.
But thanks for the tip.
Ps. You should seriously try the new Pepsi.. - stormist, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18For those of you not following, this project was a highly dugg story about a guy writing a software app every day for 30 days. Quite fun to follow:
http://www.digg.com/software/Software_jedi_to_write_an_new_application_every_day_for_a_month - MisterCookie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19I'm gonna start a genocide. Open source rules.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -17/+25Excuse me Digg, but what are these pro-open source comments doing below the viewing threshold!!? Do I need to remind of you Digg Fundamental Rule Number Three?
"When one comment expresses support of open source software, it shall be Dugg up, regardless of content or intelligence." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Or PSKill from Sysinternals.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8monolith,
certain tasks can hide from the windows default taskmanager, this has always been the case. I myself use procexp and excellent app, but this one looks ideal for the intermediate user. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8How silly Monolith2 looks now :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Great work.
- Bodzor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7if you edit the 2nd file (in notepad) you can add them to the list so they don't get removed
best of the programs so far
keep up the good work - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -21/+27I agree. Open Source rocks.
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10i440,
so if it is the crappiest piece of spamming spyware ever invented, but released as
Open Source, it should automatically be Dugg?
Open Source is a merit to a program, but should only be one of the factors used to
determine its suitability for others. The first factor should always be: "Is it any good". - Bodzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6its just a txt document with a differant extention, open it with notepad
- Bodzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6just download the .NET Framework
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displayLang=en
than X86 version - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16well ***** download it.
- manageMyRights, on 10/12/2007, -26/+31dugg for being open source.
- gundammman2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The .jedi file is the exception list for the quick kill program. Anything you don't want killed type into that list.
As far as the .Net v2 framework, download here (x86): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11It would probably result in the collapse of the universe
- ePlus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5RapidShare whore!
- Footstick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah I might have seen another retard write that, thanks for reminding me.
- InsaneOni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4SmartClose is a program for those that want a GUI. You can download it here (I'm in no way affiliated, but I use this program all the time and I'm quite sure its spyware free):
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/smartclose.html
also on downloadsquad.com:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2005/08/04/smartclose-shut-down-all-running-programs/
It allows you to choose which processes you want with a check box system that tells you what each process is. Very nice if you want to clear up some memory for playing a game but want to leave your music/browser/torrent open. Easy to use and it has the ability to restore your processes and services that you killed so you can go right back to what you were doing.
btw - I love that digg has a spell checker, awsome! - sanza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@binarypower
I wish my boss thought more like you... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4procexp has been around for ages, supporting forcefull killing / suspending of processes.
It also lists the start file of the current app (excellent for tracking down viri etc) - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9It's asking for a .net framework
:( - ChrisGranger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a gimmick, and he's having fun with this and so are some of us, so why knock it?
- binarypower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3App a day? How about app a year.. and make it good. You are very talented... why not focus on one or two things??
- Blabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Call me a noob but what is a dam .jedi file included with the app?
Something from star wars? :|
I googled it but all it gave me was weird results that didnt help. - crash013, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does this require you to be running under admin?
- Clearz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Thank you program. Now my mouse back button dosent work :S and im to lazy to restart.
- bilbus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3XP has a command line taskkiller built in, but yours is nce for csripting .. thanks
takslist
taskkill -pid xxxx - zorvi4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This program helped take down all of the processes that my dumbass couldn't take out. I had 36 processes going and after I took out the unnecessary I had only 19.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I bet you £100 you couldn't do it as quick.
it takes 1 second to open it and click "Y" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, my computer feels brand new again; Ive never seen my processes drop from 100% since I bought the thing. Very good app.
- cynicist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2bah edit time limit ran out,
IMHO, 10-15 processes sounds like a lot, but those useless windows services don't use many system resources. It would help someone with a small amount of available memory, but most gamers have plenty.
The biggest performance killer would be an antivirus that is configured to scan every file as its accessed, due to the extra cpu usage. Most are setup that way by default to be more secure. - Avengelist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed, spell checker is good... now if only people used the bloody thing...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7taskmgr.exe is fine for me, but it looks good!
- h00ligan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just use process explorer - been using it for years, works great. www.sysinternals.com
- Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1xkill is something different, and it not really designed for killing processes/applications.
It's primary use is for cleaning up hung X resources. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you said a naughty word :(
- manageMyRights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For me, having the source provides two things:
1. If the program is the "crappiest piece of spamming spyware" then I can change it and remove the crap, while maintaining its core functionality. And you can see what its actually doing, which makes me feel a whole lot better about running it.
2. Looking at the source code I can usually learn something about coding and even reuse the code. - pen25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use enditall2 but will check this one out
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1taskmgr.exe requires GUI. pskill.exe doesn't. It's useful if a game won't return to desktop.
- cynicist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You could disable all the useless services windows starts to accomplish the same thing.
I guess it could be useful for someone if they didnt want to exit the apps in their systray manually. Getting an extra program and making a shorcut to it is more of a hassle for me. - teddyrux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is a nice program...but it broke my internet. Had to restart. It also shut down one of my two firewalls...The bastard.
- BuckyBit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1concur - sysinternals/russinovich (the sony-drm-rootkit) rock. kill.exe also works fine.
problem is: when the app freezes the system/ makes it unresponsive - it-s not gonna help anyway. -
