- maoa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Re: Spamvertising,
Looks like Seth, the creator, has made an announcement asking the invisionfree users to sign up for Digg accounts just to Digg this to the front page.
In any case, Invisionfree charge you $50 for your own database if you ever want to leave, and it often takes them weeks to deliver a simple MySQL dump. Recently when Server 1 crashed and they lost a load of forums, they didn't even bother trying to salvage them. The support staff are rude teenagers who delete threads at a whim.
IF / ZB is a disposable solution for kids, undeserving of widespread attention due to the crippling incompetence of the management and complete disrespect for the users- I'm digging this down because if it got to the front page, people might be misled into thinking it was an acceptable solution for small businesses.
Not to mention that there is a massive difference in features between Zetaboards and open source solutions like SMF and PHPBB.
And at the rate the IF staff have been working, they'll have finished college by the time that changes. ;)
P.S. Some people seem to be digging down all comments on this thread. Is there a password? "Dishwasher"? - Louis11, on 10/19/2007, -0/+8Funny, everyone who supports this beta release is a new user to Digg. Bury to hell.
*awaits security issues...* - MSTK, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6...I'm paranoid now. It seems that most of these comments were made by people who were in on this whole thing and digg spamming. In fact, all negativity got dugg down.
And since when did people start thanking developers for their hard work on Digg? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8This seems more like spamvertising.
But this can't compete with IPB or VBulletin or for free open source boards - PHPBB or SMF . InvisionFree is not the most reputable site! - Zenithan, on 10/19/2007, -0/+5Just check their digg histories. Almost all of the positive commenters have dugg only this story.
Story buried as spam. - jorelvo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6buried as spam. look at all of the comments "congrats admins i'm trying to suck up to. see! i signed up for digg and dugg your story like you asked!" it's an underwhelming release anyway.
- Louis11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How is any forum worth a digg? Honestly, forums have been around forever... unless it's some earth shattering development, it isn't worth any of our time. Stop acting like you know digg, you haven't been here long enough.
Again... ***** Zeta. - Verminox, on 10/19/2007, -3/+7To be honest, I expected much more. Two years in the making.... Beta release one year later than announced... I expected to see some mind blowing and never-before seen forum features that would nail other forum software to make Zetaboards come out on the top.... but I guess I was wrong.
The skin and graphics are nice, but I don't see any reason why anyone who isn't a long time InvisionFree fan would want to switch from other forum software, especially open source ones. Not as good as I hoped it would be. - Slaytanist, on 10/19/2007, -2/+6To be honest I'm not overtly impressed. It still looks leagues behind most open source packages from what I've seen.
- bairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Revenge attack... that would make "us" as bad as "them".
Just label the story as spam and it'll be buried. - Zenithan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Again, it's not the story I don't agree with. What I disagree with is how you are abusing the system that Digg uses to put stories on the front page. It's not that they are new users; it's that they are all new users from the ZetaBoards community that we find offensive. This is shameful, flagrant self-promotion.
Try and look at it from our point of view. - Louis11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We aren't rude, you're just an idiot. We hate spam, if you haven't noticed... and therefore hate the site, and all the users supporting it. Digg welcomes new users, but only ones who want to partake in discussion and have something to give. And regarding our language, why don't you use the "Profanity Blocker"... bet your precious forum SOFTWARE doesn't have that. And lick my nuts ass hole, we still don't like you.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're right Im sorry. Here, a free link to your forum software:
http://community.ipslink.com/board/
Oops! - Zenithan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No, you do not have to be a long-term user to Digg stories. However, when a bunch of users are drafted by their own community to go and promote a product in another community, that is spam. Forcing a story to the front page to get users for yourselves is not only rude, but is also indicative of your own mindsets. How would you feel if a wave of Digg users suddenly signed up to your forums and created a thread supporting Digg? What if they continued to bump it so that it would get the attention of all your users? I imagine you wouldn't be too happy.
Now kindly stop screwing with Digg's mechanics. If people were genuinely interested in this story, they would have dugg it to the front page by themselves. - rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3I'm glad there are so many negative people. It seems as though everyone who is a member of the support forums at IF is in love with IF and their staff. Talk about suck-ups... This spam digg story was for the best, it shows what everyone really thinks without IF's "friendly environment" moderation.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Check his digg history. Another IF *****.
- bairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Oh wow, so apparently you have to be a long-term user to Digg stories?"
No. But people who sign up *just* to digg the story are participating in gaming the system, and that really really pisses the digg community off.
And the sad thing is that with such blatant praising, anyone who has genuine praise will probably be dug down as assumed gamers. - Louis11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, just be glad no one has decided to whip up a script to post thousands of topics. No captcha, and no email verification makes this *very* easy.
Back to programming... but one more time... ***** zeta. - bairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Give beta feedback" is on the bottom of each page... so I did:
re: http://beta.zetaboards.com/test/announcement/2/
Getting people to sign up and suck your ass with "omg this is the best software evar!!1" comments is pathetic, and not going to make you any friends.
You are gaming the digg system, and it's going to backfire on you because all the kissass comments will be buried leaving the "this is nothing special" comments showing. The sad part is anyone who isn't gaming the system who actually had something nice to say will likely be buried too. - DaveTZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Zetaboards = IF 2.0
IF 2.0 was simply what it was referred to as before it received its official name. - rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2I also think they were extremely premature with the release. Too many ***** bugs and all their features aren't even listed or available... Meh
- Crizzle, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Cathrine ZETA Jones is gonna sue. ;-)
- MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...what?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Its diggspamming. Are you really going to trust a communications center built by some snotty ass teenagers at IF?
These boards look like ***** and are worlds behind IPB.
Its ok, if you really want a forum just get IPB ver 2+ board. It's worth the 70-180 bucks (depending on license type) which stomps all over this.
Free != better. - bairy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2jorelvo,
And it's so blindingly obvious too. One after an other they post, all with this as their only dugg story. They must think the digg community is full of idiots.
As for the software, it's not exactly mindblowing, looks a lot like vBulletin in layout. - DelTrigger, on 10/19/2007, -1/+3I guess the features are a bit more secretive because nothing really pops out as new. It honestly just looks like a new skin on an IF board.
Meh, good job, I guess. - Nylonathetep, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Seth's modus operandi, obviously. I feel sorry for the people who have to work with him.
- Xaliber, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2Ow.. I'm wonder who is really immature here, considering almost all comments from IF members -- eventhough they are only an ordinary member who accidentally found this page on Google while typing Zetaboards and is a person who awaits ZetaBoards because of it's IPB 1.3 improvement and support it -- were buried. :D
Ah yes, before continuing, please forgive me for starting this topic again.
But I cannot get enough before replying.
I'm agreed with some of you, that the Seth's message above sounds like advertising, especially because of the "Packed with hundreds of new features, it's still completely free and makes a great addition to any website." line.
But, I think that is not a good reason to assuming that the IF members created account here only to dugg this topic, except you just dislike ZetaBoards, or Seth himself.
Before saying "can you see in my point of view", I'd like to ask you to do so.
If, for example, you are a proud member in a famous forum board, then the board upgraded to new system that you have awaits for many years with patience. Then you accidentally found a page about that board in Digg, and want to give some good rating to public, so you dugg it. Is that an advertising scheme?
Except you never participated in a board or some kind of organizations that can make you proud as an ordinary member, I think you will answer no :D
It's just a plain pride for being a member of that group.
To be honest, I register to Digg only to commenting this topic.
So you can bury this comment, or just ignoring it and keeps posting negatives comments. But, however, o expert adults, your maturity can be seen by your actions. :)
Except, if your perceptions of maturity is an ability to saying impolite words.
Ah yes, rootbeersoup, I think feedback is different with insult, if you know what I mean. - wolver1ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like any other discussion board, only hosted.
- pott3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really doubt Seth posted that as shameless advertising. As Yodaminch just stated, he is proud of ZetaBoards and wanted to share the achievement.
I think there are enough IF users to make ZB popular without advertising. Every other big event has a digg article. Why criticize this one? - WALoeIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand what the relationship is with IPB?
Ikon Board -> Invision Power -> Invision Power (Pay)/Invisino Free -> ZetaBoards (open-source) ?? - rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Haha, they took down the link on the beta forum.
- rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1***** lame...
"You are banned.
Your negative posts on Digg have earned you a ban. Don't like it? Go away. Guess you won't miss it." - rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I understand that it's in its beta stage, but I expected it to be a lot more bug-free... Hell, it's not like they were rushed to release it or anything. I can guarantee nobody expected it this soon.
- DaveTZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Calm down...seriously. Do you even realize how foolish it is to get yourself so worked up over a digg post that relates to something you don't even know much about? I'm all for having some pride for a place you visit frequently, but there's no need to be so uptight that if a lump of coal happened to be stuck up your butts, you'd have a diamond in two weeks. (Hey, look, a butt joke. I do have a special place in my heart for toliet-humor one-liners.)
From your points of view, apparently you see it as an effort to spam. It is a software release...I personally don't see why that can't be posted and dugg. And, some of the users of the software who do not happen to be digg users joined up with the intent of digging it. Of course, you attribute this to ass-kissing. (Seeing as, if that were true, it would fit well with your argument that it is a spam/corrupt post.) But perhaps they dugg it not to ass-kiss, but simply because they like the product, and felt it deserved a digg. Why can that not be true? I for one have better things to ass-kiss for in life than a piece of software.
You jump to the conclusion that it is for sheerly spam purposes, but I think that is indeed a JUMP. Seth wanted to show it to the digg community, and some of his users came to digg the post. I think if the narrow mindset of "Hey, they're invading digg with advertising schemes" would leave your heads for just a few minutes, perhaps you could check it out and not bury it because of your ASSUMPTIONS, but sheerly because you truly dislike it. Whatever though...I see this comment getting buried anyways. -sigh- Continue on with your maturity. (But, I am in no shape to comment on that as I made a butt joke. So I essentially nullified any comment on maturity I may make. Well...any comment on maturity I make without these parenthesized statements, anyways. But I still think it was worth it. Hoorah.) - rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Then they have that ***** rule about how you can only have 1 account... They banned my IP... I hate forums who only want positive feedback and friendly conversation. GROW UP. That's not even how it is in the outside world...
On the plus side, they let you put a ban message for each member... - Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1InvisionFree based their service around the last 'free' version of IPB from Invision (before Invision released the 'non-free' IPB2 codebase), and basically took on the responsibility of fixing any security issues themselves. I don't know if they made any of these fixes available to other 1.3 users though.
For the record, I'm a happy IPB customer, and have nothing to do with InvisionFree. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://beta.zetaboards.com/test/admin/?menu=login
first one to hack and delete this sucker gets a cookie! - pott3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nope, it's ZetaBoards, thus the renaming. It's not affiliated anymore with IPB 1.3.
- planesrock, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0Ok, zetaboards reeks.
I hate the skin, it looks like it's 3d. I don't like any of the staff either. They already banned me, rofl, but making another ip address is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3! - SatanClaus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Meh. I kind of agree that it looks similar to IPB 1.3 - but only good can come from this, and it's still in a beta...so yeah.
- planesrock, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0Nylonathetep, well said!
- rootbeersoup, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Wow. I think they just IP banned me. Probably for these comments. That's almost mature of them...
- Xaliber, on 12/02/2007, -0/+0So does for creating another account. Ha ha.
- Yodaminch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Could it simply be possible the creators were excited of the result and simply wanted to share the news? Not advertise, just announce and share an achievement?
- JeremyPrivett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You know ... I honestly don't think anyone gets what really happened here. What happens to stories that are dugg and make the frontpage? Their servers usually go down in a blaze of glory.
This wasn't an advertising scheme, this was a plan to see if the new service could hold up against the weight of the Digg Effect. Which it did, remarkably. I've been around the Zeta Beta for a while and discussed it with the staff and other members. Even with the Digg Effect and when the story made the front page, there was no downtime.
I think this was just a way to prove how solid the new system is and how well it scales, in comparison to the competition ... or even the current incarnation of InvisionFree. - Slaytanist, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1A++++++++++
- rootbeersoup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Haha, the negative comments are the only reason I joined. I'm sick of every little IF robot coming here saying they adore ZB.
I like ZB and all... But it's free, so what can you do about it? They offer free hosting, so 100 kids can register for anime boards and have spammable C-boxes and whatnot. I use it, just buy a $2 domain and it almost looks professional. My site is http://rootbeersoupland.com
I agree that this is somewhat spam. I mean, they have 100k members at the support forums, why do they need to advertise? - iBeta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Aye, thats true...but maybe the thought of people being rather impatient led to it :p I don't know. It isn't that great, but it sure is better than IF in alot of ways :p
- Louis11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Register and spam Zeta, woot!

What is Digg?
