- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5if you firefox monkeys took more than 1 minute to pass judgement on the browser then you'd know it is a far better browser than ie6...I won't go so far as to say it's better than firefox because of all of firefox's extensions, but I'd say it's just as good. I've been using IE7 build 5112 for the past 6 months and it's pretty damn solid and it is not the resource hog that firefox is.
Oh and just FYI firefox did not invent nor was the first to bring out tabbed browsing...tabbed browsing has been around since 1995 so quit saying IE7 is a ripoff of firefox's interface...oh and incase u guys haven't noticed it has a new tab bar that's clickable so no more ctrl+t's :D - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you don't want to go to this guys blog, here's the direct link: http://www.jcxp.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4499
- pupppet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes Firefox invented tabs, OSX invented everything else, and a platform that's run by 85%+ of the world is irrelevant. Is anyone on Digg not 12?
- Rageous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually Firefox didn't invent tags. Opera did it before they did and I forget what browser actually "invented" them.... Those are cool screenshots. As much as I hate IE now, it used to be a damn good browser. I imagine 7 will be pretty nice since MS finally are getting off of their asses.
I actually remember BPS PowerTools integrating tabbed browsing and chatting on AOL as early as 1997. - DDRSkata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Major ripoff of Firefox.
Which means it's probably way more secure than IE6. I'll be upgrading when I get home.
Dugg. - cusoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Blog link. No Digg. Just link to the actual article people, is it that hard? I know you want views for your little blog, but getting them this way is just lame, and does it really mean anything anyways to have the views?
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2but is it web 2.0 compatible?
- csimpkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's a screenshot of Digg as it appears in all it's unstyled glory, for those who didn't/won't/can't install:
http://www.millsplace.com/temp/DiggInIE7.gif - r0x0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it gives a new meaning to ugly
- iambuzzin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why's everyone getting so pissed about the blog link? Gimme a break and shut up. If you don't have time to read it, then maybe you shouldn't be on digg.com anyways. Windowsconnected.com has great postings about MS stuff that most of you don't know about.
- madmoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Microsoft should stop letting color-blind programmers design their user interfaces.
I do hope that this will move more people off of IE6. Designing web pages for that turd of a browser means having more work-arounds in your html/css than actual content (yes, that's an exaggeration.) Hopefully IE7 will be slightly better.
I'll still have to start up my Windows laptop to test in IE though :-( - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, that must have been really painful for some of you to see than guys blog. It dont really matter if you mark it as lame, report it. Fact if your crying like a little baby over seeing this dude's blog. Get over it. I think everyone should link every story to a blog first
- Daytona955i, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Link to the real article, not some lame blog with a link to the article...rnhttp://www.jcxp.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4499
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YEAH IE sucks but theres a damn important reason I have to go in to virtual PC and test websites in it. I'll be doing the same with IE 7 soon enough :(
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BTW, I for one will find IE7 refreshing after wasting my memory on FF.
- bwmiller72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As I type this in Firefox I want to say :
Yes, this _is_ copying Firefox. _But_, I see that as a _good_ thing! Sure Microsoft will pretend these improvements were their ideas all along, but at least copying Firefox got them into the (currently) main web browser, so that those who will always just use the default will get to have these features too.
The important thing to note here is not so much the "browser" itself, but that by promoting the use of such things of RSS and Atom feeds to the point that Microsoft realizes that IE better add that too, Firefox has made "web browsing" more exciting for everyone, even people still using IE. (Note, I do realize other web browsers than just Firefox have promoted a better web browsing experience too).
Second, I think this is too little too late to squash Firefox. IE sat unchanged for years and left the opportunity wide open for it's competition to pass them. IE is now playing catch up, big time. All computer users have now heard about Firefox. Many are using it and it works. What reason do they really have to go back? And by the time IE7 finally ships, copying what Firefox has now, Firefox will have moved on to further improvements. I predict IE will now be trailing in new useful features for some time to come.
In fact, IE copying the best of Firefox will be what insures that it's developers make an effort to come up with something new and useful that IE doesn't have to keep people switching. Competition is win win for all users. - howrichmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The UI reminds me of AOL Explorer 1.2
- jaknet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Omg, FF Ripoff And A Bad One, Its Just Like Vista, Looks Like *****!!!
Of course it looks like Vista..... WTF do you expect when Vista comes with IE7 and this is IE7.....how the hell can it NOT look like it - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) does anyone use IE enough to care what it looks like anymore?
2) stop linking to blogs, link to the real story. - robche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2very slick and quick browser, very recource friendly, no memory leaks, stable and nice. Step in the right direction MS! Ill stick with opera until the final release! then make up my mind. At this moment firefox is completely out of my radar.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Might want to read those forums before trying to install. Lots of people saying they're stuck on validation, and left without IE as a browser.
- yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a firefox lover but...ya know.... this is actually quite good. And 100% compatible with the internet.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can you run IE7 and IE6 on the same system?
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually Firefox didn't invent tags. Opera did it before they did and I forget what browser actually "invented" them.... Those are cool screenshots. As much as I hate IE now, it used to be a damn good browser. I imagine 7 will be pretty nice since MS finally are getting off of their asses.
- JackCh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And I don't know why everyone thinks that Firefox is so amazingly standards compliant. It's far from perfect.. And also, IE7 final will have vast improvements in the way of Standards Compliance.
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well too all you tools thinking that the blog links are fine. Read the freaking TOS for digg. Then stop your lame promotion of you blogs.
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks dvdjon
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.cybernetnews.com/?p=263
Forgot to mention that there is also a no-install version there, but I didn't try it so I don't know if that works. Maybe you could use it as a portable web browser then! - dvdjon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Links removed from those sites. Here is a working link : http://www.fluxiontech.com/?p=130
- adimangla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IE7 is pretty good and the current build is stable and ive not experienced any problems with it after a couple of days of regular use.
Im still using FireFox but am now becoming increasingly 'comfortable' using IE :-)
Incase some of the links die out here's another one for you folks :
http://www.nsitlounge.in/bb/index.php?showtopic=2226 - kris83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LMAO! Just go 2 wired.com using this build of IE!
- jaknet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been using IE7 for a tryout and very unimpressed with it apart from the ability to see all your tabs in one page.
I notice on the screenshots that the toolbar with file, edit etc has been closed otherwise you would see that instead of being at the top as we are all used to it is now stuck below the tab bar and apart from closing it you cannot move it. So apart from getting rid of it you are stuck with it right in the way.
Only my view but it's the little bits like placing a not offen used bar right in the way is bloody annoying - drewjoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool, I'm excited about IE7.
- kcghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look like they are finally going to add some of the great features Firefox and Opera has created as standards, but it by no means, means it will become more secure. IE has always been the absolute s--t-hole of windows. Its where almost all exploits come through. So how in the hek can you get excited about IE7, when all the features and alot more security are in other browsers? Maybe if IE7 turns out to be secure, and not "integrated" ill change my opinion, but for now, i just dont see the point.
- SectorNation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lame blog link to real stuff. No digg.
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Crappy blog link.
Reported lame. - designbydave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0blog link = gay
just link to story ass
lame++ - boohiss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For all of you complaining about it being a lame blog link, it appears you are the minority, since as of right now it has 207 diggs. So eat it. I'm going to make it 208.
- kucing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Boy, that STAR icon looks very familiar..
Hmmm.. it makes me want to "flock" around the browser more *wink* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg should implement a tag feature for the comments; I would mark this: flamewar
- Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In installed it (have to have IE for some things at work) and the one thing I noticed is that there seems to be some lag whenever a new tab comes up. It's a Beta, so I won't hold that against it, but Firefox and Opera (especially Opera) still seem a bit speedier. I like the tabs though, about time, though toolbars look a little funky.
- remotedeals, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Business world still runs on IE. I bet a lot of you believe that Netscape was a better browser. You might very well be right, but again, IE stands the test of time, and Netscape is something my kids won't every know about. FireFox does look cool though. People that value the look of things can benefit from FireFox, no doubt.
keep telling yourself that and mabey it'll come true... firefox has more then looks the security of it is alot better then IE will ever be... - mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you need an alternative site to get it from I found one since JCXP took it off:
http://www.cybernetnews.com/?p=263 - ArcaneDevice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lame blog link. And out of 99000 users, 208 Diggs doesn't make it any less lame.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+0"IE is irrelevant these days. No digg."
your definition of irrelevant doesn't match a dictionaries, IE is still more popular - remotedeals, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0basically to answer everyones question on why these asses post to their blogs instead of direct linking... "Free way to advertise their sites!" Now on with the IE vs FireFox... I been a long time firefox user and plan to continue doing so, I read a few statements claiming that firefox loads slow? Well heres some info for you people, get a computer that has more then an Intel celeron 500 MHz :P NO DIGG
