- gfw123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh goodie, a blog post.
No digg. - diggerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice find. I had not previously heard of cleartype. Hopefully they will put this into Opera
- tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh, ClearType is a WindowsXP feature, not an IE7 feature.
- tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1designde: It can be enabled on the OS level, with or without IE7, which applies it to every application.
- epall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't this just sub-pixel anti-aliasing? I could've sworn I turned that on in Tiger a few months ago...
- designde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I'm glad you can disable it, but even though im only 33, having the type appear darker takes a load off my eyes. I would also agree with you about bold being a bad thing if it messed with a font's ability to display bold type. However, bold type, in your way of thinking is "bolder".
Designers have known for a long time that type for print and screen are different animals. Yes, there's a bit of blurriness with some fonts onscreen with ClearType, but it at least is not trying to pretend to be type for print.
The net effect is that I can still tell what is bold and regular type. I can read with less eye strain. - bonzooznob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No Clear Type sucks, and sucks large!
It messes with font widths (makes everything wider), and generally makes all text appear "bold".
Since all browsers worth a damn, can scale text content, ClearType is essentially useless.
For those with a 'cheap' LCD display, fine, enjoy being able to read your text at a bit of an angle, but for the rest of us, thank god they provided an option to TURN IT OFF!!!!!! - designde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, But can be enabled in IE7.
- designde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks Rob: The post has been edited. You're credited.
- designde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, take it easy. I'm learning my way around social bookmarking.
- designde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Still easy on my eyes when reading sans-serif type, but I'm beginning to see the blurriness on serif type as a real problem with cleartype.
