- slant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12If you're referring to the phrase "Teh Interweb," it's actually done on purpose (oh, dear Lord, I hope it is anyway). The phrase is used in a humorous nature most commonly by those belonging to the "Internet generation" as a replacement for the phrase "The Internet."
Wikipedia: "The term is often used as a joke or sarcastically, to indicate inexperience using the Internet; for example, 'You broke teh Interweb'. The joke is that the correct casual name for the World Wide Web is either 'Internet' or 'web'. 'Interweb' thus implies ignorance of the most basic terminology."
Explaintion of "Teh": This is the "L33t" word for "The."
This phrase together is used jokingly to insinuate that the user is not only trying to appear "cool" by using "Teh" but at the same time showing one's ignorance by mixing the terms "Internet" and "web," forming "Interweb." - kaplanfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6gotta love is flow diagram... "Teh Interweb - You are here" haha that made me smile.
-Kap - engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ScheduleWorld supports Thunderbird/Evolution synching, but I don't use them so I didn't include it in the guide.
- ezyeric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I had planned to write a simple program to Synch Outlook Calender and Google Calender. With looks of this many step process seems me writing a program still the best option. I got other projects Im still working on so I'll get to this eventually if someone else doesnt first.
- warwagon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why doesn't google just write a little app that automatly syncs it with google callender and outlook, do they not reolize how popular that would be?
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*article author*
I did one of those silly "this is what the traffic looked like when I got dugg" posts.
http://engtech.wordpress.com/2006/09/22/i-digg-it-getting-35000-page-views-in-a-week/ - engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the diggs guys.
re: fastz - "Why can't anybody ever speak in something other than broken English? So many times I read articles on here or somewhere else and the person leaves out words and misspells the simple words like "teh"."
The "teh Interweb" thing was a joke. - slant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great concepts! Interesting methods. Not much Mac support by the components used though.
/cry
I wonder if it's a lack of standards support on Apple's side. As sexy as I think the Mac interface is, as well as the usability of "Address Book," iCal and Mail.app, I really am clueless as to how well these support existing standards so I reserve judgment either way.
I currently use Salling Clicker to sync my contacts in both my phone as well as my wife's phone to the Address Book when we are near the computer. Works great! I just wish there were more standards for two-way syncing between great Interweb apps like Gmail and Mail.app or better yet, the Google Calendar and iCal. - Samek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2any similar program to sync THUNDERBIRD and and Windows Mobile? =(
As soon as a this is available, I'll switch 100% to Thunderbird. =] - Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2i've wondered as well, but my guess is that google want to own the world - not have it and microsoft own the world. having google sync with outlook would mean that some of the time people aren't using google's products - unacceptable
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+2i think we killed scheduleworld
- umeshunni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3BTW, Outlook 2007 let's you sync them both without any addins.
- staceyeileen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool... but the most interesting part of that for me was the link to Gliffy. This thing kicks ass.
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The guide is for synching contacts/calendar, not email.
- BluKnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The minute google comes up with a killer app to replace Outlook (ability to use offline and sync with gCalendar online) that'll sync to my PDA, I'm all over that.
- tim76844, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'll give it a try....
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1this may help you using thunderbird - i use google calendar everywhere. i like using my ipaq's calendar on the road. i'm going to use this to sync outlook/my ipaq, then send that to ScheduleWorld. you can use thunderbird to then pull from SW.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1anyone syncing google calendar with evolution for Linux or iCal on OSX?
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because you want them to be continually synchronized, not just for that one moment of time. You also want it to work with the minimal amount of effort on your part.
- I can't get away from using Outlook Calendar at work.
- I can only synchronize calendar/contacts to my phone/iPod using Outlook (because of Nokia support).
Because of the way I set it up in the guide, my work/home/google calendar are always in sync, and my phone/ipod get updated automatically when I plug them into my home computer. - hemo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would love a more simple walk through, just from Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar to the Nokia phone.
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I have to manually re-input all my calendar information on to the ScheduleWorld server as I can only sync FROM scheduleWorld to my home Outlook."
Nope. That's the way I set it up because I wasn't going to be inputting anything from Outlook(home). But you can have 2-way sync at home as well. - engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ScheduleWorld supports synching Thunderbird.
Not sure if you can synch Thunderbird with your phone though.
I needed to use Outlook in my setup because it was the only thing my phone supports for contacts/calendar sync. - hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fine. Don't sync with Outlook, but at least sync with my PDA.
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My theory is that Google doesn't proper sync utilities for Outlook because they're forcing you to choose between Outlook and Google. If they offered sync then people wouldn't switch -- they'd use both.
- courane01, on 03/07/2008, -0/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Launches_MS_Offic ... - they work now
- courane01, on 03/07/2008, -0/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Launches_MS_Offic ...
- tico24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks good, but the only problem I can see (according to the little flow diagram) is that I have to manually re-input all my calendar information on to the ScheduleWorld server as I can only sync FROM scheduleWorld to my home Outlook.
What I would really like is if I make a change on anything along the chain, I press the 'sync' button and everything synchronises. I don't want to be playing around trying to work out which way I can sync my files.
That said, I haven't actually used the software -- I'm going on the article and the diagram alone. - boran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is about the most usefull synching tool I have found. I have three laptops (with outlook (2 home, one work))and two cellphones (one home, one work) to keep synchronized, and there might be a PDA in the future. I'll definetly look into getting this thing setup. Because outlook synching by swapping the PST files aint everything.
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had an outlook file that was about 1gig, no problem what so ever.
Older versions of outlook were maxed at 2 gigs newer versions can handle more (not sure how much though. - mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is how I do it.
Thunderbird - IMAP (no need for "syncing")
Lightning - WebDAV
I can get to my email and calendar from any computer. :P - courane01, on 03/07/2008, -0/+1http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Launches_MS_Offic ... - they work now!
- tico24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1excellent. Thanks for clearing everything up. I'll try it out once the digg effect wears off.
- kaarposoft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NokSync (free, open source) will synchronize Thunderbird with a NOKIA phone.
http://www.kaarposoft.dk/noksync/ - getaclue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great find! This is great of synching things if you have more than one computer.
- lamestory, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2please ... $9/mo exchange server keeps all computers / PDAs in sync and you dont have to deal with buggy-ass iTunes or scheduleworld
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The only way to sync to your Nokia phone is through Outlook.
Google themselves explain how to sync contacts from Gmail to Outlook. Here's the link to Google's instructions. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&answer=24911 (note: this was in my article)
If you have a data plan, you could also just use Gmail as your mail program on your phone. http://m.gmail.com
I believe some people have had success with using ScheduleWorld's contacts as an LDAP server for their Gmail.
To go from Google Calendar to to the phone *HAS* to go through Outlook as well, if you want to do offline synching through your home computer's internet. There are two working (I use the term loosely) solutions that I know of: RemoteCalendars and ScheduleWorld. I decided to use ScheduleWorld for my guide.
But I'll re-write the Google Calendar section tonight after work. The author of ScheduleWorld finished updated/simplifying the interface this past weekend, so that part of the guide is out of date. - worldsbestgamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This will come in handy for people who need to update their Google calendar dates while on a train or flying. Just sync up all your changes and you are ready to go. Of course most business people have Exchangel, Lotus Notes, or something similar to use.
- kaarposoft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NokSync (free, open source) will synchronize Thunderbird with a NOKIA phone.
http://www.kaarposoft.dk/noksync/ - jaymzz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Where are Palm and Lightning/Sunbird in all of this? Those are two things I'd actually *like* to keep in sync!
- engtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Much agreement. Writing this article was my first time trying out Gliffy as well. It's such a good tool for doing simple Visio-esque diagrams. I don't know if it'll stick around as a start up because I know I'd never pay for it... but as a free tool it's great.
http://www.gliffy.com - llnk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1looks like scheduleworld is suffering from the digg effect. :)
- absmith1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2if this actually works, this will be great.
- pascalX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can read your Gmail contacts via LDAP:
http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/usage4.html - PhantomTrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why don't you just export the files from Google/Yahoo/Outlook and then import them to wherever you want?
Why go through the hassle of using a ANOTHER centralized server? (since, after all, we already have Google to access from wherever we are with internet access...) - engtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ScheduleWorld (what's mentioned in the guide) is very fully integrated with Evolution on Linux.
- iFrank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0This looks like it'll be excellent.
- boo5000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Anyone else notice the slug on that article? Ridiculous...
