- misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems like it's not quite ready for prime time, but could be a major player in the future. With the expansion of shows available from RSS and the ability to bookmark like delicious, this could be an all-in-one mesh. At the very least, I bet there's plenty of people scrambling to make copycats right about now... Very cool! Dugg++
- misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BTW, good work with the 'How-To'! Also, you gotta like that's it open source.
Here's a link to the BoingBoing article on The Democracy Player: http://www.boingboing.net/2006/02/21/democracy_a_new_plat.html - Jules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works well, too bad democracy seems to take ages to download compared to normal torrent apps.
- Jules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually with normal feeds democracy works well, but it has major dl problems with this technique.
- itoldyouso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0glad there is something better to do with the democracy player.
but surely (hope you mind me calling you that) this is wrong, immoral and maybe illegal ??

Doesn't matter if it's legal or not. They'll still sue. - GodsHand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Democracy is buggy as hell.
- MrTea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@GodsHand
what about this app? :P - dogoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0awesome digg
trying it out now - diskopo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's also another app called "Ted" that does the same thing (or so I hear). Fans may want to give that a shot.
- spling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12But won't it make for a totally awesome headline?
"MPAA SUES DEMOCRACY" - logic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"democracy seems to take ages"
I'm sure there's a bad government joke in there somewhere. - spy1325, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wont this work just as well using uTorrent's RSS downloader. and just watch the shows in your favorite media player.. seems kinda stupid to use a buggy video player to download and view, when you could download and view with software you don't have to worry about crashing.
- guardian653, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is it called the "Democracy" player? It just seems kind of a werid name...
from their FAQ ""Democracy is developed by the Participatory Culture Foundation""
lol
""But won't it make for a totally awesome headline?
"MPAA SUES DEMOCRACY"""
lmfao - pix3l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've been using TVTAD ( http://www.tvtad.com/ ) for quite a while now, and it works quite well... Is this Democracy thing really any better?
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im testing it out... im getting 2kb/s on a 2 mbit DSL....
- h3adstr0ng, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0democracy looks BEAUTIFUL.
But, on the minus side, its buggy, takes up some memory, and the preferences are locked.
When this thing hits stable, ohhhhhh
the feeling will be orgasmic - neopran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG
I love this so much
btw where do the videos get saved too ? - g30ph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's still bittorrent, which is still slower than clicking reload on the newsgroup til the show appears so I can get it at 6.7mbps. That translates to 7 minutes for a 30 minute show like the Daily Show.
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'd imagine they would be saved to c:program filesdemocracy player
but they aren't - Elsidox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why not just use utorrent/azureus with the RSS handlers.
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where does democracy store the files? In the actual program itself instead of an external folder?
- NumbCore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How legal is this?
- jacinto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On windows, democracy saves videos to a folder it creates called democracy inside My Videos.
in other words,
C:Documents and SettingsUser nameMy DocumentsMy VideosDemocracy - kman2k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I asked how to do this in the Democracy release thread and here it is. Mwah!
- skyshock21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Where does democracy store the files? In the actual program itself instead of an external folder?"
Probably in Documents and Settings under a temp folder, or possibly in the Application Data folder. But you could always do a search and find out pretty quickly, no? ;) - dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I spotlight searched for every file that im downloading in democracy - nothing. Spotlighted democracy, only came up with the program itself.
- D4RKfantasy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Believe it or not, check your "my videos" folder in your documents guys. thats where i found mine..
- AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would be an excellent as an MCE plugin.
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love XUL
- Devin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I pay my cable bill because they screwed up and are only charging me for the basic 10 channels at $13 and I'm getting every single channel. Take that, Bright House!
That and there's something to be said for sitting on the couch without the obligation to reply to emails or IMs or whatnot. Plus TV is undoubtedly easier - you just turn it on and go. That's two maybe three clicks depending on what channel you want to watch. - LNahid2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was wondering if this was possible after hearing about democracy player on dl.tv today.
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@d4rkfantasy
What about mac? - jnewland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Downloaded (and incomplete) files are stored in ~/Movies/DTV/ on the Mac. If only these could be converted for the iPod automatically...
- thidranki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wanna DL House, but i get ***** like Bleak House and Desperate Housewives. BLeh
- jnewland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More great TV RSS feeds over at TorrentSpy:
http://www.torrentspy.com/directory/5/tv - ytsebadd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This would be an excellent as an MCE plugin."
Meedio already has a plugin that's similar in function using uTorrent/Azureus RSS handlers. - TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Democracy sucks
- jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet the MPAA will come up with an app or virus called Communism to wipe this out.
- thidranki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0torrentspy RSS feeds dont work
- jnewland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoops. You're right.
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this needs iSquint integration! all the same benefits, but videos would be iPod ready... (wishing)
- bogaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ah this is where videora comes in handy, with auto conversion for ipod
- underburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a great looking app, Ill look into it further when its stable.
- urbanaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@thidranki
I was able to get the House feeds by searching on tvRSS for House with a space after it (house%20). That seems to work if you just want House MD, not Desperate Housewives or whatever, lol. - Timjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't you do this with the howard stern show?
- lizardbrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0FireAnt.tv blows it away.
- ComputerNap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sexy.
- JaggedEdge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how many other people got an email out of butt ***** nowhere about this?, I know i did and i havent the slightest on how i ended up in theyre mailing list.
