- sjbdallas, on 07/05/2009, -0/+42Great idea: let's bypass all the security your company has put into place so you can control your PC via twitter.
- ambiguus, on 07/05/2009, -0/+30Great, now the most popular tweet will become
"Download more porn" - techdever, on 07/05/2009, -1/+29I like turtles.
- asgardshill, on 07/05/2009, -3/+28Buried for:
"And since the app is dependent on Twitter and Gmail, it will not work during those rare fail-whale moments."
It is my new mission in life to rip the phrase "fail-whale" from common usage. - inactive, on 07/05/2009, -4/+29INTERNET:
I've done the instructions backwards, and now it's too late.
My name? it's Johan Marcus Guy, and i'd like to say it's a pleasure to meet you, but unfortunately my Windows PC is controlling me through Email and SMS.
Just moments ago, my windows sent me a SMS request to attack my dog with a golf club. I think he'll be fine, but he did sustain traumatic injuries.
This is not the main problem however, the emails are.
In the past three hours i've been made to buy twenty-five shipments of viagra, and to look for hot grannies in MY neighborhood. This has hurt my self-esteem, but it seems that Windows is a cruel mistress with no calculations for caring or the basic principles of love.
Please help me Digg,
Please
Johan Marcus Guy - glinsvad, on 07/05/2009, -0/+22Eehm, just putting an idea out there: SSH
- Protuhj, on 07/05/2009, -1/+23I don't think twitter would be the best way to do this... why not send it to e-mail? Then none of your followers (read: sheep) will have to read your desktop commands that you are tweeting.
Also, you can set up a filter on your e-mail to just trash those commands, rather than clutter your inbox... - Choobie, on 07/05/2009, -0/+19Can we just get rid of "fail" in general? I am tired of walking through the engineering building and hearing every douche bag use the word "fail" every 3 minutes.
- or3n, on 07/05/2009, -0/+18"move mouse rt 2px"
"left click"
"move mouse down 50px"
yeah this would get old fast. - caseycoold, on 07/05/2009, -0/+17oooorrrr you could just remote desktop, do what you need to do, and do just about anything.
- s14sh3r, on 07/05/2009, -0/+14Nah, this isn't exploitable at all...
- Ouze, on 07/05/2009, -0/+13Cool story, bro.
- iliketurtles2, on 07/05/2009, -0/+11So do I.
- radix2, on 07/05/2009, -0/+10What could possibly go wrong with this?
- SCMacUser, on 07/05/2009, -0/+9Web 2.0 version of telnet.

In other news:
- Twitter accounts compromised by new worm.
- Takeover of millions of PC's around the world linked to Twitter.
- How to check if your PC is being compromised via Twitter. - asgardshill, on 07/05/2009, -0/+6I'm up for that. But as for me, one obsession at a time please.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/05/2009, -0/+6I think it's Digg trying to tell you not to post...
I've never had to do a captcha to post comments. - matt.rubin, on 07/05/2009, -0/+6free and awesome
https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp?lang=en
just need internet connection - shinkou, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5A faster approach: Get your computer a trojan horse and have it managed by EXPERTS.
- _Caboose_, on 07/05/2009, -0/+5... it's not that annoying. Maybe you just need to chill?
- amnesiac87, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4Maybe you are a bot programmed by Reddit for advertising purposes
- 1o23r, on 07/05/2009, -3/+7Sounds like a wonderful service to have running all the time. Extremely necessary.
- mt4055, on 07/05/2009, -0/+4Not!
- johnkemp, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4You can open up a huge *****' security hole and tell the world about it at the same time! Sweet!
- pooper0, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Who says Wake on Lan doesnt work with 802.1x?
- knobbysideup, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3Yeah. That's a great idea. As if we don't have enough zombie spambots as it is. *rolls eyes*
- FutureGuy, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3And lets blame MS after it gets hacked.
- ultrafez, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3Good luck establishing and maintaining a connection through a connectionless medium.
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -1/+4lol I thought the Eastern Europeans have always been controlling your Windows PC for sometime.
- darkzealot89, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3Cross Loops needs another person at the computer to work, this will take commands without needed a person to hit a button on the host machine.
- Eorster, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Why did it take so long for me to read a comment that actually made sense? What's happening to this place.
- snake1025, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2ahhh, so this is what twitter is used for...
- mparker21311, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2I use it all the time! :-)
- sabach, on 07/05/2009, -1/+3oooorrrr you could just run VNC server on an off-port and access it through SSH running on a proxy server on an off-port. There are several much easier ways to do this than the method in the article.
- xivera, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2And, Nokia internet tablets, too! :)
- Paranoidmarvin, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2SSH by SMS would be interesting
- AdmiralAcbar, on 07/05/2009, -1/+3REQUIRE MORE MINERALS
- twiztidsinz, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2How is that compared to RealVNC?
I already use Hamachi for LAN games over the internet and I had peeked at it a bit before, but never had the chance to check it out. - heresy_fnord, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2LogMeIn free works from Windows Mobile phones and also iphone.
- heresy_fnord, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2LogMeIn Free is what my company uses almost exclusively.
The pro version is great too if you want file transfer and printing. (not free, but just putting that out there.) - rxbudian, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Nice concept, but an old one, at least to me it is.
The issue is whether you are willing to trust Twitter or any e-mail system for the control of your computer.
I think it is wiser to have at least a 2 way authentication system before the computer can take any command. - onegoodsoul, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1It's an E-Rube Goldberg Machine...
"A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately overengineered apparatus that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually using a chain reaction. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Goldberg_machine - ShiningSquirrel, on 07/05/2009, -1/+2I have been doing this for years using email and Outlook. No need for any twiter or gmail crap cluttering up your machine.
- birgirpall, on 07/05/2009, -2/+3Yes, I'm going to give some random program my username and password for my email and twitter, coincidentally, here's a gun, shoot me in the face.
- Elranzer, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I'm tired of Twitter in real life.
- DamonToo, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Learn a tiny bit of scripting and run an SMTP daemon on the host computer. Then you can have it do whatever you want by emailing the computer directly. No polling.
- Moralogic, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Use for your home computer:
1. Getting files that you have on it.
2. Download content you posted on a server that is too big for email that you want to take down immediately.
3. Shut down program after a large download is complete.
4. Render farming... kinda.
5. Schedule your DVR/Computer to record your favorite TV show because you have to work late or are going out after work.
I really dont see many other uses for this. So if someone has more ideas, please let me know. Maybe I am missing out on some great ideas. - remakeru, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1This is such a great feature... Surely impossible without twitter and until now!
/S - pyrates, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I said this when this was proposed for doing this on the mac and I'll say it again. This is a BAD idea. Not only is it insecure, but there is so many better ways to do this that give you so much more. Like gotomypc.com. Sure you gotta pay for it, but its secure and you can do whatever you want as if you were there directly on the computer.
