- jggube, on 04/26/2008, -5/+32Interesting application, though I think that most websites worth keeping an eye on should have an rss feed.
- bs0l, on 04/26/2008, -5/+14Why wouldn't you?
- iamthejeff, on 04/26/2008, -2/+11http://www.rsspect.com/ RSS updates for any URL.
Doesn't need you to install any software or addons. - SirPopper, on 04/26/2008, -2/+10Nice submission!
I was looking for that, because of there are a lot of [good] sites around the web, which do not use RSS feeds it is unbelievable, but it is the truth! - AceyS, on 04/26/2008, -2/+10THANK YOU! I came on to post this exact comment. Didn't even RTFA yet but seems easy enough to me...
- Superperson, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Because I have a Mac and Firefox's integration with the OS is deplorable. Don't get me wrong, I use it on Windows, but Safari's just a better choice for Mac.
- esengulov, on 04/26/2008, -4/+7What about DrudgeReport, it doesnt offer any feeds.
- spongman, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4here's some links to RSS feeds:
drudge: http://www.dapper.net/transform.php?dappName=Drudg ...
bash.org: http://www.dapper.net/transform.php?dappName=QDB&t ... - B3000, on 04/26/2008, -3/+6I too was about to say the exact same thing. How ***** difficult is it to click a bookmark?
- dlsspy, on 04/27/2008, -0/+3I have 2,281 bookmarks. I also do other stuff.
- eigenweasel, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4Hasn't he just been locked up for three years or something?
- khyberkitsune, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Before we had RSS feeds, there used to be ways of having your browser check for new versions of a web page and then notify you. Netscape Communicator did it, IIRC.
- danwallace, on 04/26/2008, -3/+6Don't worry. Got 'em both for ya.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2http://www.drudgetracker.com/
- MtheoryX, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2WTF?
- noliberalbull, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3nor does bash.org
or strongbad
and the list goes on - jondo85, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3Why is this guy getting dugg down? He is right, Yahoo Pipes should be in there, it is the first way I thought of doing it too. Video 4 on this page shows you how to make an RSS feed from a site that has none using Yahoo Pipes and Feedity: http://usefulvideo.blogspot.com/2007/02/yahoo-pipe ...
- mbmatt, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3Here's a "bootleg" feed for Drudge: http://feeds.feedburner.com/FeedPalooza/lwDu
- kokuei, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2Stop bookmarking *****.
- MrViklund, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2Hehe yea.
- LazyTurtle, on 04/26/2008, -2/+3Just stop by the firefox addons page they got it all there.
- neko, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1The buttons and checkboxes look like Plastique, and I think the window decoration is the KDE default, whatever it's called.
- QueensGangsta, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1I never really found need for RSS feeds on my computer. Doesn't everyone love typing in digg.com?
- ASSHO, on 04/26/2008, -4/+5and where is Yahoo Pipes???
- MtheoryX, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1Until your dashboard gets full. I'd rather have a feed to add to NNW, and leave my dashboard free for really important, real-time stuff.
- Antialias, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2If you're on a Mac, you can make any portion of any site you like into a dashboard widget right from Safari. I use it for 2-3 sites, then they are always 1 click away no matter what I'm currently doing at the moment.
- thenikola, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1http://epod.usra.edu/archive/epodviewer.php3?oid=4 ... i really wish they had an rss feed
- Atomic1fire, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2http://www.interglacial.com/rss/homestar.rss
http://feeds.feedburner.com/Bashorg-Latest50Quotes - paulwe, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2http://www.dapper.net/ is pretty nice/easy to use...
- arrenlex, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2I hacked my own together in perl: http://ugweb.cs.ualberta.ca/~dorokhin/update.pl
It takes input files like this as input: http://ugweb.cs.ualberta.ca/~dorokhin/feywinds.raw
Neat things
a) it puts it into an rss feed, which I host on my webserver and watch with google reader just like my other feeds
b) I can choose exactly what in a site to monitor (so i.e. I don't get notified every time the ad changes :))
c) I can take the elements I want (i.e. the image, if it's a comic) and put them in the description of the rss feed so I never have to open the side
d) I run this as a cron job, so I can configure exactly how often it checks... i.e. if there's a webcomic that updates MWF I can check only on MWF so I don't spam the site.
e) can monitor many urls per site and combine the data you get from them
Yay perl. - TheSwashbuckler, on 04/26/2008, -1/+2Great question. I use Pipes to monitor open source projects that publish news on their web sites, but not in RSS feeds (e.g. SQLite). Works great.
- alexbu, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1I thought the article would be about this, what of waste of time...
- mabm, on 04/23/2009, -0/+0All of them free and web-based (without registration)

http://feedity.com/ - hardcorerikki, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1I expected to see revolutionary apps in the link, too bad I was a little disappointed... I'll give the site a thumb up netherless. Check this. Tried and best methods one could recommend.
Website Watcher. Nothing can beat that one (http://www.aignes.com )
Check And Get (http://activeurls.com/en/ )
Copernic Tracker (http://www.copernic.com/en/products/tracker/index. ... ... )
There also exist a number of web-based services (no installations needed) that fulfill the task nicely enough too, though their featureset is pale compared to desktop-based apps.
TrackEngine ( http://www.trackengine.com )
WatchThatPage ( http://www.watchthatpage.com ) - Billistic, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1Well maybe they should spend some time on infrastructure.
- jordyhoyt, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1rsspect is so great! it even has stuff for people who want to set up RSS feeds but don't want to set it up/deal with increased bandwidth
- rclay, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1skip this crap and use changedetection.com
- WilliamTM, on 05/13/2008, -2/+2Microsummaries is another idea, in Firefox.
- Rogee, on 04/27/2008, -1/+1Netscape had this built into their browser at least 10 years ago.
- TrailOfDead, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1Also check out http://www.openkapow.com. Similar to dapper but more powerful.
- rsmithrun, on 04/27/2008, -2/+2What ever happened to actually visiting a site to see if there is new content?

WatchThatPage ( http://www.watchthatpage.com ) - Jaruzel, on 04/29/2008, -0/+0It's all still there, kinda
the HTTP 1.1 spec has an eTag header var, that is the unique id of that page revision, all the browser has to do is include the etag value when it re-requests the page, and the server will reply with '302 Not Modified' or whole page if its changed. - tomis, on 04/27/2008, -1/+1Isn't this exactly what website "Subscriptions" were in IE/NS back in the day? You'd get a little icon in your bookmarks menu next to sites that had been updated.
- solid12345, on 04/27/2008, -2/+1RSS feeds are for neurotic dweebs who bite their nails and get nervous waiting for an index.html to change every hour.
- stickguyws, on 04/26/2008, -2/+1I'm currently using pingasaur.us (which is in beta, sadly) which sends you an email everytime a webpage you're monitoring changes. Really handy for webpages that are put up by professors and what not.
- dralezero, on 04/26/2008, -3/+2I wrote PHP scripts that scrapes different information I want from sites and cache them, put it on my homepage. Along with my other RSS feeds.
