I'll do it :-* - jonofezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6welcome to a few years ago....
- sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6i've done this serveral times on a friends machine, one that i had previously 'patched' myself to stop the ***** annoying WGA pop ups, and it wouldn't take.
even after applying the new, store bought CD key, it still wouldn't take updates, and insisted on being pirated.
beware about going legit, sometimes it's harder than it seems - sigepjedi, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3i had an issue where my authentic key wouldnt work, and i was able to use this to install and then change the key to my actual registration key for windows xp pro. worked perfectly!!!!!
- mp94564, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Another great app for this is RockXP3.exe its about the same with some added password stuff that isn't really necessary...
- Korben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3www.rockxp.org is better than Magical Jelly Bean !
It can retrieve all your MS Products Keys ! (and show you all password on the computer and other stuffs...) - Ryosen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@waverider1899
Just add phi0x to your friends list...
No, wait..that's MySpace. - Icyfenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had that same problem trying to backup data on a computer the other day. I couldn't copy, move, delete, look into, or do anything with the folder, and the person who had brought the computer in had said something about her teenage son "fooling around with the key or something, you know the computer key".
I wonder why that is?
Had no take ownership tab tho. Unless I was too tired to notice it. - Zsinj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is very old news. The original way to do this is at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328874/
- randoms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3check/change ownership and permissions. That might help.
- Compudude, on 01/10/2008, -0/+2I really appreciate you letting us know about this tool. I've changed keys before 'the old way', and just came across a Dell XPP system that would NOT allow keychange - nor would putting the zotz on the registry WPA help, nor RockXP (which I think fails for the same reason Magic Jellybean fails to do a keychange). This official tool Works. Period.
Note: Grisoft's AVG apparently hooks into the pk or its hash - so you'd have to reinstall after a keychange.
Thanks! - MiniMac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I had the same problem, if you can access the security tab for the folder, there is an option to 'Take Ownership' of the folder, make sure you check the box marked 'Apply to child folders' or words similar.
HTH - tempest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2JellyBean is quite good, I used it often.
Thanks for the mention of rockxp, I will have to check it out as well. - sporkwitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2JellyBean's been around for almost a decade. I remember using it on Win9x.....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The problem here is if you have a bad key installed from the very beginning, and you try and go online with it, windows update detects this bad key and somehow lets windows xp that it is forever bad, even if you change the cd key. I've yet to see or find the method windows xp uses to save this information. I could be mistaken about the forever thing. I've heard people say after a few hours then they try and change the key to a "good" key it works, as the "this is not a geniune copy of windows" blacklists your computer for x amount of hours, and any key changes in this time frame fail no matter good or bad key.
Secondly, Windows XP saves every cd key attempt in the registry if the key meets key standards (windows accepts the key). So everytime you change your cd key, that key is saved in the registry. and it's a protected part of the registry. however some bootable dos program could probably take care of it or some registry program that can modify any registry field. - phi0x, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3this doesnt work with media center 2k5 btw.
- arikalish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've never gotten MJB to work, but if you run a sysprep with no options, it'll let you change the key. Works great, but takes a few minutes.

- catpounce004, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is not only very old, it's very lame. WHY IS THIS FRONTPAGE NEWS? Anyone who has any business messing around with the XP key already at least knows that it can be done and how to use google. Unfontunately, I can only bury instead of delete.
- littlewiki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Now i think its time to change vista licence keys. This app has been around for years.
- MrBeamish, on 03/02/2009, -0/+0oh my lord, thank you spoons. I had been trying the 'manual' way of changing keys and it was driving me mad by not working. This tool makes it a breeze! thanks.
- JRBlack10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wait, missing something here... why would you want do change this informaiton?
- maggoty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm sure I tried this program a while back and had a problem with xp SP2 and it not being able to change that version?
Hopefully its fixed now, otherwise it would be a breeze. - shivaranjan18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I tried this with win xp with sp2 and it worked fine for me. :)
- leonwehttam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1thanks for the link, im going to try it when i get home.....stupid SP2 needed for BootCamp :D
- russelltaylor05, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If you want to change your product key without reinstalling windows you can use a program called KeyChanger Windows Edition as well.
http://keytech-software.com/KeyChanger%20-%20Windows/Specs.html - innobate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1INNOBATE Product Key Recovery Available for download at following URL address:-
http://www.innobate.com:81/Apps/ProductKeyRecovery/publish.htm - Al3x, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Changing your key can mess up certain folders. I had a shared folder and I changed my product key, and I couldn't delete it. I tried command line, deleting programs, shift+del, etc. and I couldn't delete it. I basically lost rights to it. It may have been some other type of folder, but I'm pretty sure it was shared.
- shuffles, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2oh my goodness...I am so unbelievable!

You are also using Windows-Media-Edition? Some am I.
My girlfriend and I are the only known people using the Windows-Media-Edition in Montreal Canada -- and that's a verified fact!
So far I can say one thing about Windows-Media-Edition: it's time for me to get a new harddrive. That thing eats harddrive space the way I eat... well never mind...
Anyways... I've run out of space. We've recorded too many episodes of "Myth Busters" and "Babes of Brazil".
I see you are also in Canada. Hey the hell do I email you? I'm new to Digg... isn't there a feature in Digg to send a message to someone?

What is Digg?
The Digg Toolbar for Firefox lets you Digg, submit content, and keep track of Digg even when you're not on the Digg site. Download the official
