- GuineaPig, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Firefox 2.0a is pretty underwhelming.
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6can somebody point me to the list of changes? (not just a long list of things i won't understand, but things that actually make it better)
thanks! - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6awesome, thanks for putting this together. i had no intention of trying the alpha because i didn't want to replace the current version.. this is perfect!
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So you finally made the front page after spamming all the other front page stories with your link.... nice
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8umm your retarded and need to grow up. jeeze.
- flib, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Or you can download the non-installer ones from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8/
This article only contains a Windows version, whereas there are linux, mac, and windows ones in my link. - mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You could do that but then it still uses your default profile. This one uses a different profile from your normal installation.
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thank god.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If the build on Tuesday is different from this one then I will be updating the release. Just an FYI for everyone.
- DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4not to spam. but http://portableapps.com/ has a portable firefox, gaim, openoffice, etc. they are awesome i love them.
- Cryptecks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great job, I love this concept, because I wasn't too thrilled at the idea of killing my FF installation.
- tim7423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow that's really cool. Since i can't wait till Tue to try it out of course
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mac apps are portable anyway. Just back up your preference file and run the new firefox. If its crap, trash the app and it's preference file, and restore your previous file and go back to using 1.5
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is a good site because that is where I got my basis for the Portable Firefox.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sorry to beat a dead horse, but you get what you pay for, besides..it's an alpha
- beeboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nod 32 says it's fine.
- Buckbeak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought 2.0 was supposed to have built in session management (saves which pages were open when the browser closes/crashes).
- zouhair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is great. I didn't want to replace my 1.5.0.1 with version 2. I think they have a lot of work ahead of them, but that's expected since it's in the alpha version. It doesn't look very bad, but it doesn't seem very different from 1.5. We'll see what they can come up with.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4That is what a lot of people were telling me and I want people to be able to test it because that is how software is made better, by testing it! I hope this will encourage other people to give it a shot.
- rajivm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The download links a little slow - digg effect... heres a mirror:
http://intreon.net/PortableFirefox2.0a1.zip
Nothing that exciting, but for those who are interested. - mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am getting 500KB/s ... that is slow?
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is always good to have a mirror just in case.
- rajivm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Guess my route to that server is just bad then, because I was only able to pull 70kbps. I tested it from another connection I have access to and you're right gets around 500kb/s. I'll leave the mirror up anyways, no harm.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That didn't make this alpha.
- KMehthas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hey, at least he took the time to do the windows one... come on man, don't be hatin' those who go out of their way to provide the majority with a useful service
- Dave - - PunchMeIBleed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MAC MAC! WHERE IS THE MAC PORTABLE FIREFOX! i hate netscape please someone create it for macsA
- PeterCub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not ever an alpha, it's taken from tinderbox version, then for compiling few times a day. Explanation here: http://marcoos.wordpress.com/2006/03/21/linuxnewspl-dalo-sie-nabrac (for polish readers only)
- lunar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"You could do that but then it still uses your default profile. This one uses a different profile from your normal installation."
Or you can make a .bat file with the following:
firefox.exe -profile "myprofile"
Name it firefox-nightly.bat, place it in the same folder as the firefox.exe executable, and make a folder called "myprofile" (or whatever you want to call it) in the same folder as the executable. Then open the .bat file to open the nightly firefox while using a separate profile. - patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This isn't the best way to test Firefox, the only advantage I see is to see what the places window is like, which is no biggie, and I probably won't use it (I'm not much of a bookmarks guy, I keep all my stuff on the toolbar and that's all I need.)
It seems faster, but that's probably because it has no extensions, and you can't really compare it to the normal Firefox performance-wise because it's running differently, out of one directory rather than around the OS.
However, I see nothing wrong with it, so whatever. - PeterCub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and here: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2006/03/releases_1.html
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1added another mirror on my site:
http://basicfunction.com/html/?postid=92 - mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe the high memory usage has something to do with Vista...or maybe if you have a few hundred tabs open? Funny picture nonetheless.
- tttstarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I downloaded this file and my virus protection software (Clamwin) said it was infected. I wish someone else would check it.
- kamtsa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am using Norton GoBack for all my experimentation and software evaluation.
Basically you enter the SafeTry mode, do whatever you want (including deleting files, installing viruses, etc). When you exit the safe try mode, GoBack restores the hard drive to its original state.
Works great for me. - OwlBoy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Thats exactly what I was thinking :)
-Owl - ntrsfrml, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2no mac portable version, no digg :(
- snoble, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6Uninstall problem? All I had to do was delete the package I dragged into my applications folder. Oh that's right, some people don't own a mac.

What is Digg?
