- corevette, on 01/07/2008, -6/+59DO NOT use bitcomet, it's a selfish client that maximizes download speed and minimizes uploads...
it's proprietary software for a reason - brentinkc, on 01/07/2008, -16/+61I hate to be a dick about it, but if you can't figure out how torrents work, you're a dumbass.
- twiztidsinz, on 01/07/2008, -2/+33uTorrent anyone?
Instructions:
1). Install
2). Download Torrent - heavyd14, on 01/07/2008, -0/+29I think this is more targeted to people who think the internet is that blue letter e on their desktop.
- pinstripewizard, on 01/07/2008, -0/+28really.
if you can't figure out utorrent, you shouldn't be downloading files.
i like the way it is now, just complicated enough to keep the retards from getting in everyones way. - NeMoD, on 01/07/2008, -1/+27I told my friend I get stuff from thepiratebay and he said he was going to get "thepiratebay" like it was a program
- Cubine, on 01/07/2008, -1/+25I try to tell my friends about bittorrent, they download a random client, and they ask me why there's no search bar.
The sad part is, these kids think they're "techies" because they can figure out limewire. - Maynza, on 01/07/2008, -4/+27Now, I understand its not cool to do when bit torrent is based on sharing, however when you word it like that it's like:
DO NOT eat ice cream, it is a delicious and comes in a million varieties! - TacticalPenguin, on 01/07/2008, -2/+23That's actually rather useful considering that most people at my school believe the internet is made of MSN messenger, hotmail, myspace, google, and hackers.
- breakdancecrew, on 01/07/2008, -3/+21Here's a simple solution: If they use Opera, just give them the bittorrent link since Opera has torrenting built into it. :)
- Skooma714, on 01/07/2008, -0/+17An audio encoder isn't going to help.
- canthraxp, on 01/07/2008, -2/+17Bitcomet? either µTorrent, Deluge or Transmission. All of them are easy as crap. Install, double click a .torrent and done.
- Lyanto, on 01/07/2008, -0/+12The people I've introduced it to understood the concept of BitTorrent fairly easily, they just had trouble setting up their clients (for best download speed). I remember walking friends/family through configuring Azureus awhile ago over IM and phone... It wasn't fun. BitCometLite looks fantastic for beginners.
- JasonMaloney101, on 01/07/2008, -0/+10Doesn't get any easier than that.
- salmonmoose, on 01/07/2008, -1/+11Well, no. Some trackers deny access to various clients, bitcomet is amongst them.
- linuxeventually, on 01/07/2008, -1/+11I often hear: "Bittorrent is that a program or website?" I then pause and ponder the simplest reply: "...It's both." (explaining that is a protocol isn't going to happen with these people)
- jull1234, on 01/07/2008, -2/+11Opera?
- garionw, on 01/07/2008, -4/+10yes they can, how hard is it these days?
- Ryan2845, on 01/07/2008, -3/+9oh no...not ADVANCED ALGEBRA!!!11 I'm so confused!
- drakethegreat, on 01/07/2008, -2/+8Except advanced algebra is easy
- tingrin87, on 01/07/2008, -0/+5profiting off of bittorrent is immoral :/
- Krlll, on 01/07/2008, -0/+5I dont know why you are being Dugg down salmonmoose you are correct.
- idconvict, on 01/07/2008, -0/+5you guessed right
- WatchDogX, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4I find its better not to tell your relatives about bittorrent, at least if your living with them. I told my dad about it now my internet runs terrible and i cant play online games. As for needing a tutorial for it, its pretty straight forward until you get to port forwarding. But portforward.com makes it prety simple for the technically challenged.
- tybris, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4"BitTorrent doesn’t come any easier than this."
Except for Opera. - pnrl, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4Even better. Solves two problems at once.
- unearth, on 01/07/2008, -3/+73) ????
- salmonmoose, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4You can just tell firefox to open the file, saves the download/double click
- jordn, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5YARRR! Teach 'em young!
- snurfle, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3Very now and then. Very.
- Username314, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4"Advanced Algebra" is an oxymoron.
- RedGreen1, on 01/07/2008, -3/+64) Profit!
- peestandingup, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3If you cant figure out how to use Transmission, you have no business owning a computer.
- Osama, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4Guiding them through setting up a static IP, port forwarding, and speed settings is what's hard for me. Once all that is configured, they seem to get the hang of it.
- thebellmaster1x, on 01/07/2008, -5/+8So, has TorrentFreak always endorsed crappy BitTorrent clients?
- oojamaflip2006, on 01/07/2008, -0/+3I don't see the advantage of using bitTorrent to download from a single person. Surely this defeats the whole purpose of Torrents (ie the more seeds and non-leeching peers, the faster the download)? Whats wrong with email? FTP? Free online storage? I really think that using BitTorrent is the worst way to file share with only one or two people.
- edeabay, on 01/07/2008, -1/+3"Advanced Algebra" usually refers to Group Theory, Field Theory, Ring Theory and the study of other algebraic structures. It's not that easy...
- Onyxblaze, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2At my school it refers to stupid kids realizing the relationship between algebra and geometry. Some people are really good with geometry, and completely fail algebra. I find it quite funny because it means they don't actually understand anything about math, just how to recognize certain patterns, then plug numbers into an equation.
- keyo, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Opera does it as a download, although it seems to be quite slow. Slap them in the face with a smelly fish and get 'em to download uTorrent.
- schwab002, on 01/07/2008, -1/+3Yes, getting people to download using bittorrent is fairly easy (and i always recommend utorrent unless they're using something else besides windows).
On the other hand, getting these same people to keep a decent ratio on most private sites can be very difficult.
I'm getting sick of having to doing my friend's port forwarding for them. - actorboy, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Then you better stop visiting trackers with ads or that accept donations.
- OG1502, on 01/07/2008, -4/+6I'm all for people using the BitTorent protocol but this is leeching because they're not uploading. Case-and-point, this form or download is bad for the BitTorent community.
- plunkettt, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Case in point?
Yeah. - JudgeMonkey, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2I didn't know that. I always stop torrents as soon as I get them anyway (well, depends on what they are I guess actually), this would make that happen even faster.
- Jeebugorn, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2i had to teach my boss how to use torrents this weekend. lots of phone calls.
- unrealmp3, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2Why do you think BitComet is forbidden on several torrent trackers ?
- pnrl, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1True. Oprea makes torrent seem just like regular http downloads (but does share them to fair ratio). Opera 9.50 (soon out of public beta) even supports DHT.
- mythzach, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1Calling the torrent file a "map" to others with the file and explaining that torrent software uses this "map" works for me.
- int19h, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1Deluge is really good. I recommend it!
- Zippo, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1... and just about every torrent client. Hell, even with the original BT client, the instructions for use were exactly the same. The newer clients more-or-less have just expanded the functionality and added cool little features.
