- busterbros, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Because articles about Digg are nearly guaranteed to make the front page, and by digging it this early you will gain Top Digg Users cred?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Well after talking with you on the phone for 4 and a half hours I will take my guess. It was your first ever digg submission that made front page of Digg.

Ding ding ding? :P - goffy59, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm pretty high and That article was extremely interesting... digg!!
- 3monkeys, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@ThaRub3X you're correct. You can see this by going to my Homepage http://digg.com/users/3monkeys/homepage/page10 and looking at the last page, currently page 10. Or you could have seen my web page article about it here http://www.3monkeyweb.com/wiki/tiki-view_blog_post.php?blogId=4&postId=49 where I give a detailed account of my experiences at digg.com, or you could have in ThaRub3X case have contacted me and got an idea of how digg works, we talked about this for some time. In general what comes out of this is that by submitting interesting articles you will get dugg.
On the extreme opposite of this, I don't think this article should be dugg. It already was, see the above references. As a matter of fact it caused a little bit of a loop see this article for the digg boomerang effect http://www.3monkeyweb.com/wiki/tiki-view_blog_post.php?blogId=6&postId=39 it was interesting but not unique, an idea I've found particularly valuable on digg.
Feel free to contact me, I'm not that hard to find. - cody50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You want to get as many diggs in as you can before they start charging a fee (the horror!)
no, really, i have no clue why anyone would digg this story. - shuffles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you want to know how it works, try goign to the source:
http://www.digg.com/faq - el_jefe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hopefully because you found the article interesting...why else digg it? After all isn't that the philosophy behind Digg? To digg the stories you find interesting and you like.
However, it sounds like you have dugg this article for no other reason than self promotion. gg. - 3monkeys, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Why did I digg this? Let's see if anyone can figure it out.
- JimmyLin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Digg is quite easy to understand, even for a new visitor. I don't see the necessity of this article, although it definitely does show that Digg is definitely one of the big sites and is here to stay.
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4beats me
- radicaldementia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3because you found it interesting, well I hope that's why. For all I know you could have dugg it because you're convinced that you would have been vaporized by aliens if you didn't.
- Negyxo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Even at HowStuffWorks, where our servers can handle the traffic, we can easily tell when we've been Dugg."
It's really just barely noticeable.. but we do see it. - ThePharaoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who cares how it works? I just find the articles interesting. If I like what is posted, I digg it. If not, I either vote it down or move on. There is plenty of room for everyone here.
- phenolholic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2an intro to nondigg user. ofcourse, if you're reading this, you need not click that and read the general "crash course" into digg. i'm sure most of you gone through the registering process and know how to go to homepage, read stories, digg if its worthy, and post a thought. digg- for being the antithesis to digg.com
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"and meets a bunch of other secret requirements" ...For a story to get to the front page. Wow that article told us a whole lot.
- DonPMitchell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg is a great experiment, and I read it at least once a day. But I see two flaws, which have been frequently mentioned by others:
1. By design, the creators of Digg have imposed their POV by their choice of catagories. For example, there is a Linux and Apple catagory, but not Windows.
2. Digg does not solve the age old problem of "The Tyranny of the Majority". Discenting views, even if they are thoughtful and accurate, get buried.
Wikis have a similar problem with the second issue. - mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've always been impressed with how thorough they are there. Indeed, a job well done.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Digg is one of the biggest scams in the history of the internet."
@knowjesus: 3 questions:
How is a user contributed site a scam?
Why are you contributing to that scam?
What would Jesus do? - nightowl313, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Honestly that was one of the best, most level-headed summaries of digg.com that I've read in a long time. Cheers, howstuffworks.com. Keep up the good work.
- cuzican, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There should be a feature that allows me to flag a user as invisible so that when I am reading comments their comments are not exanded and are almost transparent. This way if it is a user that I don't like how he/she comments then I can flag them and not worry about reading their comments in future posts.. the opposite of add friends.. ;->
- busterbros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1zanky read this, dummy:
Changes are coming to our top users page as well. In the near future you will see two tabs - 'Top Diggers' and 'Top Submitters'. Top diggers will be a ranked list of people that find/digg (not submit) stories that become popular. This list will also be sorted by how diverse the digger is - meaning if they digg stories from lots of different people and their stories become popular, they'll rank highly.
http://diggtheblog.blogspot.com/2006/09/digg-friends.html - flowaus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hold on... "How to digg", "How to Register" etc..
????
recursive.digg.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Who cares. It's not about you.
- Informativo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Who really knows how does it works? All depends by the votes of diggers, sometimes the most important new is about gaming, another about celebrity....etc
I would like to be to the top stories!! - ravenprice, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I still wonder what the exact algorithm is to get a story on the frontpage. Is there any other factor that counts besides the number of diggs and the speed of diggs?
- CrookedAsterisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1In the article, it says Digg doesn't use any cookies. This is a lie. Digg uses cookies to store your session ID (good luck trying to log in and maintain a session without cookies turned on), to remember not to display the notification on the top of the page about Digg Labs once you've dismissed it, and also to remember your username and password, if you choose to do so. However, it doesn't store anything to do with your digging history in cookies, which I guess is what they're trying to say.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Because you were wrongly accused of gaming and this shows that you weren't by showing how Digg works and it works without the gaming so Digg is working now and has been so that must mean no gaming and that means you were faslely accused??
- knojesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0There is no algorithm. Somebody at Digg just picks out the stories to promote based upon their whim of the moment. Digg is one of the biggest scams in the history of the internet.
- ZaNkY, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7Top Digg Users cred? Is there even such a thing? You made that up......
Who the hell goes and sees who was the first 10 people to digg a story that has 1000+ diggs? Busterbros you're one sad little guy if you go through pages of "Who Dugg This" to see who's in there in what order.....
