- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It is not a broken link.
- ReinMasamuri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I hope google does indeed buy this
- Noah0504, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah, how about no. Even if so, no one cares.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yet another thing for either Google or Yahoo to buy.
- alanspach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i trying to understand why i need another desktop. The games are cool
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28 years? My home PC was built in 2001 and it can't handle that site...
That sonic game made me buy a gameboy micro though... lol - webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"gameboy micro"
Bah, get a GP2X and load it with Genesis, SNES, Neogeo and GBC ROMs. :) - chad518, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been very impressed with Goowy and they are continually improving. Keep in mind that the IM feature is new and is still in Beta.
- streetgen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's to help you have a place you know wont change even if you move to another computer. It's a "profile" that actually stays with you and good way to move files to other computers if the file storage actually works.
- Captkidd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice idea. You really do have a messy desktop though... ;-)
- alanspach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1never thought of that, thanks
- jedi55555, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh? Are you talking about Flash? Where do you have to download software? They have an offline client but you do not need it.
- jugaaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice
- cthibodeau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With all of these applications Using Flash v8, I feel left behind as a linux user since MacroMedia has not seen fit to release v8 on the linux platform; I am stuck with v7. All that to say that I will not be using goowy unless I am on my office laptop.
Goowy might have a chance with me if they allow more than email address in the pop3 section. I know that I would use something that would make it possible to check all my different mail accounts from one central location - although it would be hard to beat Gmail for me.
This is probably just going to be another "this is cool" website that I end up not using; unline Netvibes, or Bloglines which I use all the time. - jdelamater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shows great promise. I would love gmail integration with this.
- deviant76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I enjoy the application and have been using it at work where we are not able to access IM and webmail because of proxy issues. For my money (which is none because its FREE) i think it's well worth it.
- jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't get file uploading to work at all. That dumb-arsed spinner just keeps going 'round and 'round.
- ckewok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since it is a website, another neat thing you can do with this is to add the web page to your desktop. Then this is just like a profile and acts as a background all the time. To see a screen shot of this set as my background...
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/ckewok/goowey.jpg - MaxSand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It works for me in IE, Opera tells me I need Flash installed, and Firefox lets me log in to my account but all I get there is a blank page.
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please Google...Please!
- oysteroyster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they should have firefox in it, too! lol
- RichMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1goowy is what I use. It's great. All they need is to give the ability to resize the mini's (widget's) and integrate a video player in it and there is nothing more I could ask for.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Super slow instant messaging.
- FlyboyP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm impressed with it. Why not a browser-based thin client? The CPU could be a cheap box connected to the net, no moving parts. It just needs to be fast enough and reliable. With the increasing ubiquity of high-speed internet connections I'd say this concept is the future of the OS.
- buddystream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0try koolim, its very nice.
- oneiroi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've really enjoyed Goowy, at least the concept. It's a nice "all in one" web application. Very polished.
The thing is that it tends to be slow, freezes up rather frequently. I waited until they rolled out the box.net and IM thing. Yet it still seems buggy, and most of the time I can't connect correctly. Meebo is still waaayy ahead on the IM "Ajax" part.
They also used to have a desktop application (not anymore), where there would be most of the objects that are found in the goowy program on your desktop. I enjoyed that part too. I'm sure I could find several widgets to do the same thing, but i enjoyed only having to download one.
Until it gets a bit faster, the rss feeds more reliable, and less bugs...I'll probably stick with netvibes and meebo. - colonelpanic414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh.. This is old news. About a month. Still, I'm glad to see Goowy is getting SOME publicity. Really useful and interesting tool.
- cthibodeau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0After a little digging on the Goowy website, it turns out that if you are unable (or unwilling) to upgrade to Flash v8 and you only have v7, you can use the classic version of Goowy - http://classic.goowy.com. I cannot really comment on it however as the site is currently down for maintenance.
- wrinkles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I hate websites that require me to download proprietary software to run on my computer. Bahh!
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3OSX as a web application? OSX as a Flash application? OSX as a hosted web OS? How the hell is it a rip of OSX? Because it has a launch bar at the bottom? I'll give you a pointer to RISC OS which had a launch bar that acted like the dock years before either Windows 95 or OSX.
- dslinfreak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1This can't be concidered a rip off of OSX. If you people knew anything, you would know that it's just a recreation of an emulated linux. If you knew anything about linux, you would know that OSX is a rip off of BSD, and that BSD is a rip off of UNIX. All unix/linux based systems look similar when you're using the GUI. Get a life... maybe do a little bit of research.
- wtfdan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3EVERYTHING is a blatant ripoff of OSX to you people.
- CrioKnight, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Not digg worthy. Just another in the bunch of wannabes.
:)
Seems that way. Nothing new that hasn't been done before it seems. - northrock007, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0For the life of me I can’t believe the cheerleaders here - you know who you are. Perhaps you feel like a pioneer sharing the pioneering experience with those “crazy” flip-flop wearing entrepreneurs… This bus is full, maybe you should head over to www.foldera.com before they launch their alpha! Quick, get them to add some smileys!
Honestly, what’s new here? I support people who work hard and innovate but these companies, and the community around them, should keep it in perspective. Embracing a personal or group productivity service is a big step. You might play in their sandbox for a week or two but are you going to use a product from a company whose objective is to be bought up (service cancelled), or trust a company with no business model to support their operations, or an unproven product (lost data)? How’s www.30boxes.com doing these days? How long before they figure out a calendar is a feature not a business. Save us all some time and do your cheerleading somewhere else.
There are many companies who have great products and have been battle-tested over many years. XMLHTTP / CSS / Web 2.0 blah – it’s not new, they use whatever makes sense to get the job done and don’t get all religious about it. They also have mature feature sets, profiled response times, proven stability, and oh yea a business model so you know they have staff to keep their ship afloat. Just Google: email group calendar contact management - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Yet another one.
- ArcusOfSV, on 10/12/2007, -13/+0Thats a blatent ripoff of OSX.
- Thurloat, on 10/12/2007, -17/+125 people dugg a broken link?
