http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_Chrome_Comes_Out_ ... - thegman3, on 12/14/2008, -1/+24Hopefully they will start making addons. Right now I'm too addicted to all the cool firefox addons to switch. They will really need to give me some incentive to change.
- Bruceleo, on 12/14/2008, -1/+23I don't think I'm switching from firefox, either. In my opinion, mozilla has done a great job with their browser. If you took a little time to understand it, you can mold it to whatever you need it to be.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+19I need my plugins.. when they add them I will consider it.
- atb12688, on 12/15/2008, -0/+17Why is Gmail still beta? Seems pretty good to me.
- username7410, on 12/15/2008, -1/+17Google it.
- bryceman111, on 12/15/2008, -0/+10WIERD INDEED, MY FRIEND. TOTALLY WIERD.
- ninjagames, on 12/14/2008, -2/+10Addons is definently what is needed. Thats the reason why I decided to stay with firefox. But google is cool, and they are new, I'm sure in time they will make it more advanced, I mean.. c'mon it's google.
- dannytatom, on 12/15/2008, -0/+8Source?
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+7Oh hey, did you know that Hitler was involved in the occult and used magic to gain power? I read it on some web sites.
- tonmil, on 12/15/2008, -0/+6Because no folders or sorting and weak contact management
- bleikamp, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5Taking it out of Beta is the only way to get manufacturers to include it as default installed software. Gmail doesn't need to be out of beta because no one has to install it on machines - users sign up on the web. Staying in beta means if something goes wrong, they can say "well, it was in beta..."
- dannytatom, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5I lol'd
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+5I'm pretty sure that's listed in the T.O.S.
- JoelJ, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4Google has already said they're working on addons. Just wait, they'll have it out soon enough. Even with this release they said that addons are coming along quite nicely.
- EclipseAgent, on 12/15/2008, -6/+10- Insert Opera Fan Boy -
Opera 10.0 Alpha 1 .. blazing fast compared to Chrome or FF 3.1 - keatonkeaton998, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4OLD
- garvallagh, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4More than we can say for the "Digg - Upcoming" tab.
- threat42, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4What's weird is that people still spell weird as "wierd".
- digg87, on 12/15/2008, -0/+4OLD!!!!
- Nephersir7, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3dont click it anybody
- freaz, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3actually ctrl-tab does work with chrome, try using the latest version.
- Murdats, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3source please? NN is in the best interest of anyone who operates online, its only the brick and morter or political based organisations and 'gatekeepers'/ISP's who are against NN.
- konataXchan, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3Bury!
- Soave, on 12/15/2008, -0/+3For the record, is there a way to exit these alert loops without control-alt-delete closing Firefox? I tried clicking and immediately pressing control-W, but no luck.
- TonyCubed, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2You Sir have been misinformed.
- ElbertF, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Because they still feel major features should be added. Chrome is out of beta because OEMs refuse to ship beta software, and Google will probably make deals with companies like Dell to replace Internet Explorer on the PCs they ship.
- supersheep7, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2I definitely thought the title said "Google's Bowser Sheds Its 'Beta' Label".
- arTech, on 12/15/2008, -2/+4Gmail being in BETA is a joke by Google team. It's not really BETA.
- ericdano, on 12/15/2008, -2/+4And Gmail is infinitely more useful..........
- Opiebreath, on 12/15/2008, -1/+3But yet?
Needs more.
But yet however although. - panniccioli, on 12/14/2008, -2/+4woo. now when they make it for os x, i'll be interested : ) come on google!
- sharpie05, on 12/15/2008, -1/+3-1 for "wierd." I would hope somebody who presumably has spoken English for 20+ years could at least spell correctly.
- DragonForce4, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2I agree
- proudpheeple, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2old! (yawn)
- pr0carbine, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2This comment should be removed.
- Avaya, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2I actually quite like Chrome - I - like everyone else I imagine - nearly got my eyes stuck in the back of my head after rolling them at Google trying to take over the world, & obviously Chrome is nowhere near as good as Mozilla (yet) but on the whole I like the browser... only a couple of gripes so far:
1. there is no standard 'Home' button - had to create my own bookmark for my chosen homepage (suprose suprise, google).
2. Unlike Mozilla, you get no warning box when you x out of multiple browser tabs - a couple of time now I have accidently clicked x & everything closed down - although at least next time you open Chrome, your recently visited sites are shown in large thumbnail view.
But apart from these small issues, I likey :-) - colonelxc, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1no-script
- mphree, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Nevermind, someone already pointed out that this is a dupe.
- vivvivtzz, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1For some reason on my crap P4 system, Chrome is agonizingly slow when typing a search in the address field. It's fast as lightning on my other systems.
other than that, wtg Google, Chrome is a real treat. - AZRoboto, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1But for some reason, Chrome feels a lot worse out of Beta than when it was in Beta.
Firefox, just in general, feels so much more fluid. For example, clicking a link in a folder in your bookmark toolbar. You just click, hold, move the mouse to your link, and let go. On a laptop, that feels so natural and easy. But on Chrome, you need to click, let go, then move down, click and let go.
And when you want to see how much memory Chrome is using, each tab is its own process, so if you have 10 tabs open, unless you have a calculator, you won't know.
It does have a fast boot up time, but that extra 2 or 3 seconds doesn't mean anything when I can't move through my bookmarks anywhere near as fast as I can in Firefox - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1More addons would definitely make it more of an option as compared to Firefox.
- Egylover, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1dugg
- Step1Mark, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1but you can also argue Chrome isn't done due to no plug ins. They don't even have a Google toolbar for it. The Google toolbar ads more functionality to IE and FF than what Google put in Chrome
- stockjones, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Still prefer firefox. I hate to say it but I dont trust Google as of late.
- MrViklund, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Isn't this like old new?
Buried. - PhantomJM, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1Surprise, surprise. Chrome still doesn't like Zimbra webmail clients.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1I tried webDOMinator and it made me feel like a piece of *****!
