- MCA2142, on 07/08/2008, -5/+81Dugg for spelling "Prima Donna" correctly.
Can't count how many times I read "Pre-Madonna" on Digg. - RealmDown, on 07/08/2008, -2/+71I long for the pre-Madonna days.....
- crazym0nkey01, on 07/07/2008, -16/+67Android is going to kick some iPhone's OS butt.
- Harbinger1080, on 07/08/2008, -1/+30i always figured they meant like... when Cindy Lauper was big, or something.
- wice, on 07/08/2008, -1/+20actually the motto is "don't BE evil" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_be_evil). but i think that would be too much to expect from a journalist at computerworld to know something like this. after all, it's not that google has anything to do with computers.
- scrap3r, on 07/08/2008, -7/+24Whatever, the iphone has two screws.
- wilywondr, on 07/08/2008, -1/+17Dear John Brandon:
When you write "skyrocketing stock price" do you know WTF you are talking about or are you just a viacom fan?
Google Stock Price History
52-Week Change: 0.25%
Skyrocketing
Function: verb
1 : to cause to rise or increase abruptly and rapidly - grinndaddy, on 07/08/2008, -3/+18NOOO! NOT INCREASED KNOWLEDGE!!!
- modelcadet, on 07/08/2008, -3/+15You, sir, are an idiot. I will leave you to a a Google search to find out as why.
- Harbinger1080, on 07/08/2008, -0/+12"I can honestly say I have never seen that, and I'm on digg daily."
i am too, but it's still sort of amazing what i miss.
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22pre-madonna%22+s ... - proghead, on 07/08/2008, -2/+12I can honestly say I have never seen that, and I'm on digg daily.
- 4rp4n3t, on 07/08/2008, -1/+10Care to qualify that statement?
[Edit] In between posting your initial comment:
"Google has no place in the phone market" (or something very much along those lines) and me posting my reply (above), you edited your initial post to be an ellipses...how ironic. - Elranzer, on 07/08/2008, -1/+10Those WERE the days...
- theaceoffire, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7Very true! Just like Apple pie is *far* better than any ***** American Pie.
- Duositex, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7I definitely feel like I'm having huge squares, triangles, and all number of polygonal regions removed from my privacy.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7I'd rather put all my info on stone tablets and bury them in the back yard JUST to be safe if I was you.
- tom6a, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6*sigh*
I just can't digg an article that hits me with a full page ad first. Can't do it. - deroderugridder, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7When it comes out ......
But I want a phone NOW
I do agree with you however - Foamator, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6No, I don't want to fill in your questionnaire, Computer World.
- taketheleap, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5buried for the attempted pop-up window on Computer World.
I love you Firefox. Never leave me. - tboutcher, on 07/08/2008, -6/+11Its java based OS. Whats the last java based app that ran well for you?
- sq2shooter, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6The skyrocketing stock price was at $750/share in November. Today $550/share. A drop of $200/share in the last 8 months does hardly define a skyrocketing stock.
- spoonchucks, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4It's possible. Although, I'm almost positive you'd be coding most of the lower-level stuff yourself.
But Android/Linux+iPhone would be freakin *****... - blinky04, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4The emphasis on "what" gave me the impression that Google had done something bad.
They have not. - Nanobe, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I use Google Maps all the time, and it easily beats out any competing services IMHO. Google Reader is also a pretty good feed reader, and a lot of people at my job have come to depend on Google Docs. Google also has a ton of little niche products, like all the stuff they provide at Google Code. Yes, they have plenty of useful products.
- zydeco, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4They already have their own distro. They just don't give it out to non-employees.
- RealmDown, on 07/08/2008, -2/+6Just imagine how you will feel when you start reading about your medical records.
- dougle, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I would like to shoe horn Android into my iphone (or Ubuntu mobile), anyone think it's possible?
- drgruney, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Tin foil hat much?
- Ratatosk, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3ehm... it has an own VM (dalvrik) and you can code for it with a language that has the same syntax as java, but isn't "the" java you use on your computer... so you can't really claim it's java based + you can't derive anything useful out of the comparison...
java your pc can be as good or as bad as you judge, but it has no influence on android performance - blinky04, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4Die in a hot fire.
- stupidcabbage, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4I was thinking this was another article on how Google is ***** over the parents it employs with its platinum-plated daycare program.
Considering the recent reports on Google's chaotic organization and lack of product planning and QA, I suspect many of these new products won't be terribly successful. At some point, execution becomes more important than technological audacity. - webcrumb, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3It's actually not their motto. It was meant to be taken as a general guideline - read that as you will...
- ozziek, on 07/08/2008, -3/+6Agreed, Java sucks especially on Phones, ever used Opera mini on a phone? Takes an AGE to startup
- dexaroni, on 07/08/2008, -2/+4I'm still waiting for Google to make a TRUE linux Distro. They have the tools to make the ultimate... And Google Desktop doesn't count.
- OwdenBowden, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Have to say that the coolest and also a scary product is the Facial recognition. The fact that we are all wired together makes the process of anonymity somewhat possible but with the new face recognition this then become impossible. So that means that if you call our of work or whatever, but get spotted on a video camera some place - you face is then recognized and you are then screwed. And for all the nay Sayers: More and more private and public cameras are going online as well as giving access to government (as well as public) installations.
- RealmDown, on 07/08/2008, -2/+4Increased knowledge is good. It's the uses to which it is put that is of concern.
- pw378, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2There is a big difference between someone trying to 'not be evil' and someone claiming to 'do no evil'.
One is a person trying to be the best they can, the other is an arrogant prick who thinks they are perfect.
Google is the first, but the reporters and haters keep trying to push Google into the second category. - curiosity0cat, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3They're all over the place. But that's exactly what I love about them. They never cease to excite.
- 101phones, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3And what exactly were those days? The days of Cher? Oh joy!
- AdamFromMyspace, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2It's all relative
- monoa, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Google already contribute an enormous amount of code and resources to Linux and other open source projects. They employ Andrew Morton (he maintains a branch of Linux which often gets merged in to main by Linus) - so you're most likely using Google code even though there isn't a distro called GoogleOS.
- trogdoor, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2To add to that, Distros really don't matter that much, garbage in garbage out just like everything else. Where progress is ultimately made is upstream.
- HonoredMule, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2@RealmDown: That is ultimately a self-contradictory statement.
To date, the only truly dangerous knowledge has been that obtained by some but not all. That threat is overall being mitigated by Google's behaviour and business model, not fostered. - kraetos, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Eclipse, EVERY TIME I use it. Takes until the second coming to launch.
- Bhu8888, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2How long until we think of google as MS?
- pw378, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2Good point, lucky you didn't waste your money buying their stock at $85 just 3.5 years ago otherwise you would have lost -647%.
