- mrfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I can't wait to see Google "World Domination" come out of Beta. It's sooo buggy.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good thing they did this at last, but what new features did they add?
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the first Google product out of many that will be "out of Beta"!
- Neonlights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't Google considered Beta?
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see the big deal. I have used and abused it, as a home page, for at least 2 years, and I don't see anything that slate or some others have already had. Personalized news is really hard for me. I want to look for Acetone added to gasoline, and I have used every possible search combo I could think of. I either get or two hits, that are there day after day, for weeks, or Nothing.... I cannot believe that there is NO news generated anywhere about something that is so spread over the internet. I don't care if it is true or not, I just want to hear what others say.
I am using it, and I see some results. Any results are worth mentioning, but I need to see where it doesn't work too, to help me figure out how to apply it. I belong two 3 NG's that solely use this as a basis for their postings. Maybe I should search blogs?? I just know that Google news has not done what I tho't it was gonna do. Maybe I was just wrong about that......

yeah..... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1h-o-l-y ***** they took something out of beta.... really every single product of theirs except for the search itself must be in beta :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Google farts...digg smells.
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its theta now?
- tboutcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Next Gmail! (i hope)
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So...pretty much 3 years and a couple months. Guess we have to wait another year and a half for Gmail, then :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0about damn time
- shadowsurfr1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anybody notice how they integrated their Google accounts to the news service? I recommended that and within a week, it was on there. Yay for me and yay for it finally getting out of beta.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Auto-Google Digg Activated
- Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Usually Google keeps things in beta for no good reason. In the case of their news service I think I read something awhile back about how they could not make this a full service yet because they could not show ads. It was a gray area about whether they can take the content from news papers, put in on their own page, and make money from it. It sounds similar to what they're doing with their search engines but hey I'm not a lawyer.

http://CollegeCheapskate.com - MarkStrube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just because something's brought out of beta doesn't mean it's going to be any less buggy... it's just in beta to have a good excuse for the bugs. Nothing with this much time and so many users has stayed in beta as long as Google keeps things in beta... we need a new term for it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, would also like to note that it still says "Beta" on the news page.
- EyeDye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"we...have a better sense of how people use Google News"
People use Google News? Why? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About time (Don't use the personalized search!)
- reets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg for the pure fact that something finally came out of Beta! :D
- gamersedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great
- Abyss_908, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow maybe Google video will be out of beta in about 5 years and look the same with the same content!
- harrisbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just update the logo, and BAM! you're out of BETA. Well either way it's a good service.
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now they just need to hire some graphic designers.
- saysaknow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Normally, when something is "out of beta," it has something new and refreshing to it. Kind of like a stable product or 1.0. Just like Google's Pack, I fail to see improvements.
- mhl12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IRC, the last google product out of beta was the google toolbar for firefox.
- alfadomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0beta or out of beta, there seems to be no difference for me..
- mulls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder when video will come out of pre-alpha?
- TuxFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. Now all they have to do is add more sections, not too many, to get more people to use it. Topix.net is great but way too many sections though most people can find what they need. At least Google News has the Google search in it's favor. Dugg.
- Cheeze_Head, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://news.google.com/images/news.gif
- Yodacola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It says Google! Gotta Digg!
- dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dont' care. uselesss news.
- jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so what's the difference
- midorigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Next time permalink.
(http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/01/and-now-news.html) - diggingATgoogle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Several other products will be coming out of beta soon.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, that Google maps update is a bigger story IMO. You can see people now in NYC, London, who knows where else. There were reports when Google maps started offering that spot on the zoom slider, but until now every city's said "no image data...".
Neat. - sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eh
holy *****.
Look at the res on google maps? christ thats amazing. - logofpi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0still looks like beta
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google only keeps stuff in beta tags so they aren't responsible for any bugs and use the beta-ness as an excuse.
No digg. - DavisFreeberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There Icon still says beta on their news site.
- Umadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Something google going out beta? diggnation episode 29? Coincidence? I think not
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would have thought the big news here would have been how they bumped up the resolution in Google Maps satalite... it's amazingly clear now.
- jason7655, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorry, that should have went in the other google story I had open.
- DavisFreeberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Their Icon still says beta on their news site.
- jason7655, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and here's something to add to discussion
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/1700AP_China_Sanitized_Web.html - JohnTheLutheran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Davisfreeberg: Try hitting Ctrl+R. I just went to Google News just now and it still said Beta. But this was obviously a cached version from when I'd been looking at the site an hour or so ago, so I hit Ctrl+R and lo and behold, the Beta disappeared. Which was quite cool.
I'll be interested to know how they've dealt with the revenue issue. IIRC one reason for the perpetual beta status of Google News was that if they took it out of beta and started selling advertising space on the site, then the source news sites would start to get shirty about their copyright in the news stories and would demand royalties and/or block Google News from accessing their stories. - scorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DAMN!! 3 yrs in Beta! It's like the 15 year engagement to your significant other before the wedding.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google for teh win!
- aliekens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No local Belgian version yet in google news = no digg
- 5m0k3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"what new features did they add?"
They added automatically-generated personalized news story recommendations.
