- lightfantastik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, there IS a Windows version, it's just not as current as the OS X version. More info here: http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294 (there are also options for Linux users).
- chmod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would rather see someone working to get gimp off of X11 for us mac users instead.
- dakira2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi,
I am the creator of the Windows Version. I just found out about the new GIMPshop right now.. I won't be able to put out a windows version today.. But I should get it done by sunday (I'll try to do it on Saturday). Check back on plasticbugs.com or on my blog (blog.yumdap.net) for the windows release.
Cheers - andyatkinson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've found GIMPShop to be terribly unstable on the PC, and I am *really trying* to use it, as I love some of the scripts that allows you to easily create rounded corners and things. Can anyone vouch for the credibility of this new version on OS X, and what is your hardware if you can?
- redwards, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been waiting for this, but when's the windows version coming?
- Killerah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's incredibly unstable for windows, trying to do most anything makes it crash for me. But hopefully this new version makes things work good (and hopefully somebody ports it to win and lin).
- shadedream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While it does use X11, Apple has created their X11 implementation using Aqua as the windowing system. The only bad thing that leaves it feeling emulated is the GTK front end components but you can fix that up pretty easy by installing a GTK2 theme to match OS X.
Artman- You need X11 because all of the code in GIMP is written using GTK and X11 for user interface. They would basically have to rewrite all the UI code to get it to work directly in Aqua. X11 allows you to run basically any *nix gui app in OS X without having to actually port the application code over to a different windowing system. - Steeple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does it work with tablets yet?
- herrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd love to use it. It's just not there yet.
- n0tquitehuman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so... who's gonna work on porting gimpshop to intel macs? =)
- keefer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Downloading this now to check it out. As a seasoned Photoshop user, I like they've made it more like PS's naming conventions, but other than it being open source, does it have features that Photoshop does not?
- Rocky21743, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If it requires X11, it's going to feel emulated, and not OS X native at all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, i've been waiting for this release also.
- ubiquitin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In case you're wondering, MacGIMP.org confirms that this is not a universal binary, but PowerPC only. Also, they mirrored the complete gimpshop source code here: http://source.macgimp.org

Curious..what doesn't GIMP do that YOU need it to? - gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i installed GIMPshop on my linux box to somehow unclatter the whole windowy nature of GIMP....but it didnt change a thing. It's still the same as before....hrrmmm..
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0shadedream:
Thanks for the info. Too bad. It has some interesting features all its own. I would think now that they've gone this far they'd port it to OS X and blow Adobe away (at least the Photoshop niche). - henryaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know if this is a Universal Binary or not?
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still find x11 a little annoying, but it is better than the previous version....
at least now printing works....
hope this keeps on coming
:-D - voisine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My Gimp.app ( http://gimp-app.sf.net ) is Universal, which is what scott based his gimp-shop build on. The os x application wrapper is ppc only, but all the gimp binaries are universal, so no performance hit. Scott, I don't believe has an intel mac to build it on, so he's not able to do a universal build of gimp-shop at the moment.
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's PPC.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Photoshop users should feel right at home using Gimpshop. "
Yea, unless they want it to function like Photoshop. Otherwise, its more like Microsoft Paint version 2.0 - artman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ok. A N00B here. Why the hell do I have to have a 43 MB (X11) program to run this 66 MB app? I would seriously like to try this but I don't want to waste 43 MB and other resources to do it. Why can it run alone? Serious answers only too. Thanks.

Thanks. Been waiting for dis. - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can I create a circle yet? Or has that amazing feature still caused the GIMP devs problems?
- michaelburns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0WOOT WOOT! Finally!
