- DarbonX, on 11/09/2009, -1/+75Firefox- A great way to block those ***** dragon age ads.
- UmarSajid, on 11/09/2009, -5/+42FF Kicks Ass!
BTW...I Hate Safari. - gvoakes, on 11/09/2009, -1/+29They should start an alliance with http://WeDontSupportIE.com
- ChuckDees, on 11/09/2009, -2/+23What Dragon Age ads?
- bluenile, on 11/09/2009, -7/+22FireFox runs too slow on my machines. Video lags big time. But I continue using FireFox.
- HonoredMule, on 11/09/2009, -1/+15Because the features, usability, extensibility, and flexibility still trump a little performance gain, no one trades a pickup truck for a Ferrari when they need to haul cargo every day.
I hate that Firefox has become a little sluggish, but for me Tab Mix Plus (advanced tab management), Grab 'n Drag (tablet-like scrolling w/mouse), Weave (sync of everything), Greasemonkey and Firebug (web developing), Split Browser (multiple panes in one window), are all *essential* to my daily usage, but other browsers can't duplicate more than half of that functionality. - PikeUK, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10I'd bet a fair amount that both the lagging and the crashes have the same root cause, I suspect if you spend 10 minutes with a chat helper on support.mozilla.com they could help you pinpoint the problem (spyware or broken add-ons would be the most common cause).
You could also type about:crashes into the location bar and follow some of the links to the crash reports you've submitted, many of the most common crash types will have a link to bugzilla that will describe the cause of the problem and hopefully a workaround (the majority of crashes are caused by thirdy-party crapware and simply removing the offending software will often solve the problem). - GerryBot, on 11/09/2009, -5/+14FireFox - a great introduction to alternative browsers for people who believe IE *is* the Internet. Hopefully it encourages people to try Opera, Safari, Flock and others
- tgc1, on 11/09/2009, -1/+9I still remember a number of years ago when my friend suggested I switch to Firefox. At the time I was skeptical, I mean i'd been using IE for years... it came with the system. Why wouldn't I use it? And who the hell was Mozilla? But I figured, ***** it, i'll give it a shot. If I don't like it i'll uninstall it.
Years later. I'm still using it. Best single decision about the internet I ever made. I ***** LOVE Firefox. Oh and IE. I haven't used that for ages. I delete the icon so I don't even remember it's there. Actually, the only time I DO use IE is when I freshly install my O/S and then I use IE to go download Firefox if it's not on the network. - timmehtimmeh, on 11/09/2009, -1/+8maybe you haven't heard: http://tech.slashdot.org/story/09/11/04/0226218/Fi ...
- itschadwhitaker, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7HTML 5 </video> !!!
- vishwajith, on 11/09/2009, -3/+10Its hard to believe that even after 5 years, IE6 is still the most popular browser.
- DJMattB241, on 11/09/2009, -2/+9I don't know why you're getting dugg down for honestly telling us your experience.
Have you thought about trying Chrome or Opera? - letmejustsay, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5I'm making this comment on IE wishing it was Firefox.
- Tommmmmm, on 11/09/2009, -2/+75 years of Firefox, 1 year of chrome. Chrome is still better.
- shinkou, on 11/09/2009, -1/+6Yes! And kill it (IE) with FIRE!!!
- w3ber, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5only on working days
- zip000, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4Hmm, the site looks fine in IE to me!
...not that I use IE for anything other than testing to make sure my pages work in it. As much as I hate IE, 78% of my users for November are using it, so I kinda have to. - zip000, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4Can you use Firefox portable?
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_port ...
I used to use it when I was in a locked down environment. It runs from your usb drive (or CD), and typically you will have all of the user rights required to use it. - mparker21311, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5I noticed this too. But I'm pretty sure there are people out there working on fixing that as we speak. That is why I love firefox.
- poonaka, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5Cheesy marketing video is cheesy!
When are they going to fix the slow dns lookup bug in Firefox? - evil-doer, on 11/09/2009, -4/+8er, what video lags? i dont think that has anything to do with firefox.
- wolfboyZ, on 11/09/2009, -1/+4I still remember being hesitant switching to a new browser.
Good call, now there's no going back. - tryptonaut, on 11/09/2009, -3/+6I have to use Safari and Firefox on Snow Leopard for graphic design in school. Firefox IS better than Safari.
- thekronz, on 11/09/2009, -2/+5Cool video!
- stpaulmatt, on 11/09/2009, -6/+9sit back, cause I got a little story to tell,
and no I'm not talkin about no AOL,
I'm talkin about how FireFox saved me from browser hell,
while I was usin Internet Explorer on my DSL,
FireFox 0.3, it spoke to me,
it said "I'll make your life better than you ever could dream,
I'll get rid of all those pop-ups for free MP3s,
and I'll blow spyware's head off while it's down on its knees" - jp2535, on 11/09/2009, -7/+10Apple = Crapware
Simple truth. - imLissy, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Freshman year of college, my IE stopped working because of some software update the school made us download. Best thing that ever happened to my computer.
- CowGoesMooo, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Safari is much faster but I use Firefox mostly because of tab retention. Honestly, having Safari 4 crash with 20+ tabs open and not being able to restore them was a pain in the ass. Now if they can make FF start up faster on OS X I'll be a happy chappy.
- VanSoaked, on 11/09/2009, -1/+4"No Transparent PNG"
I think they need to update it, since IE does support that. - KenSPT, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3I had thought about using Chrome, but haven't gotten around to downloading it yet. I'll probably give it a try this week.
- andrejhoward, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Still using Chrome ... run circles around firefox on my XP and my Windows 7 machine.
- michirican123, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3The new firefox looks like chrome sooo bad.
- Robustica, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3Great timing with the Net Neutrality bill.
- Nulubez, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Cute video. But the fact is Netscape was king until AOL bought and destroyed it. In the ensueing black hole, the code escaped into Gecko and the open source community turned it into Firefox. Firefox is the phoenix from Netscape's ashes and for the longest time, the only one competing with Microsoft.
(my recollection is around NS 4, when AOL bought them, they stopped releases. At the same time, MS dropped the ball and then stopped even supporting Mac OS after 4. I think Mosiac dropped out of the game around NS 2.0 but for a while, you had Netscape and Mosiac and the joke that was IE. My other recollection is that when AOL bought Netscape, they still left the "designed for internet explorer" logo on their front page, a sign of things to come). - muzza001, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2I remember when I first started using Mozilla over IE, it was ok, but as soon as I found out about Firefox beta, I jumped on it. And have loved the ride
- Adeeb911, on 11/09/2009, -3/+5FireFox All the Way.
- spect3r, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1Which isn't really anything positive. "The Internet Freedom Act" is actually all about "freeing" the net from government intervention (fcc) which in turn let's the rules of the net be run by corporate giants (comcast, etc.)
Please watch! (youtube)
http://bit.ly/1mANgd - Ades, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2why cant i ***** adjust the volume?!
- Cyclist110, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2I feel all warm and fuzzy now.
- poonaka, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2Yes Firefox is a memory pig. I'm sitting at 623MB :(
- darkism, on 11/09/2009, -4/+5True, because:
WebKit > Gecko - Garciat, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2-fox
- hilanderiam, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2009/10/firefox-3-6-get ...
- KrashTheMighty, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1Safari is crap, much like anything apple does besides iPOD's (hey media peripherals should be simple to use, and apple garners to the technologically inept, don't believe me? Ask an Apple user for his computer specs. In real life though, some of them know how to google!)
- kiantech, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1you know whats one thing I hate about html video that no one seems to complain about.....full screen video...I havent seen one example of html5 video go full screen.
- FyberOptic, on 11/10/2009, -0/+1And yet only in the last year or so has it been competitive in terms of speed and memory usage. As for security, well, it's never been too good on that. You can find that out somewhere like Secunia. It's still a nice piece of software these days though, good enough to compete against Chrome and the like.
- zip000, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1On my server, only recently has Firefox surpassed IE6 in usage. It is very frustrating to have to code for all of the rendering errors in IE6, IE7, and IE8.
- thekhans, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Great video, but did anyone feel as if the music was a little overpowering, compared to the volume of the narrator?
- spambutcher, on 11/09/2009, -3/+3Is it me or do -all- (including and perhaps especially FireFox) browsers seem to suffer from serious memory usage issues?
on my mac FireFox creeps up to 950MB or so over the course of a couple days (even without add-ons).
Recently ditched it for Safari - which seems better.
This used to be a major issue on my PC - but it's definitely gotten better since 3.0.
I'm sure keeping every page you've opened for the last 5 days in RAM helps benchmark tests - but there's just no excuse for a web browser eating up half a system's memory.... -
