- Rotzooi, on 07/10/2008, -1/+54Amarok alone is a reason to start using Linux.
- Debdrup, on 07/09/2008, -2/+49Dugg for cuteness of release image.
- nightrose, on 07/10/2008, -0/+33You can use it just fine in Gnome.
- OpCzar, on 07/11/2008, -3/+29I'll probably get dugg down by the Linux Evangelists but...
Where's the Windows download? - kleverness, on 07/10/2008, -0/+21A nice FAQ that answered plenty of my doubts: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/FAQ#Amarok_2.0_FAQ :)
- wolf08, on 07/10/2008, -0/+18Yippie! I've been using it as my main media player with amarok nightly on Kubuntu. Very nice, very nice.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+19Hey Lauren, I made up my mind. I'm not taking care of that baby. You can just give the little bastard up for adoption for all I care but I WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THAT THING. I've got a lot of WoW to be playing and my Guild Wars guild is number 11 on the ladder. I'm too busy to get a job and provide for a kid.
Sorry guys. - tcpip4lyfe, on 07/11/2008, -0/+18You can install it under windows but it took me about 4 hours and I had to download about 6 different compilers and libraries. In the end it was only half working. I'll just wait for the .msi.
- Gatesophile, on 07/10/2008, -1/+17Amarok is a great music player. Even though I use GNOME I have to go get Amarok whenever I install Linux on one of my machines.
- WallnutBoy, on 07/10/2008, -1/+15*****, people have real conversations in digg comments now!?
- Cenobite, on 07/11/2008, -3/+16I would die for Amarok.
- kleverness, on 07/10/2008, -0/+11You can resize the panel which will resize your plasmoids indeed :) Take into account that this is an ALPHA release please.
- dualscreenman, on 07/10/2008, -0/+11If you're using Kubuntu (and soon OpenSuse) you can use the Project Neon packages:
http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/User:Apachelogger/Proje ...
This will download only the base KDE4 packages needed for Amarok to run, and won't even give you a full KDE4 installation, all while not upgrading KDE3. ;) Be warned though that you'll have to download 200-something MB of packages all in all.
There are also Project Neon KDE packages you can use if you want to install a development snapshot KDE4 side-by-side with your KDE3 or distro-provided KDE4 installations. - markey, on 07/10/2008, -0/+11Hehe. Actually, it's supposed to mean this (from Wikipedia):
"Malina is a solar deity in Inuit mythology. She is found most commonly in the legends of Greenland that link her closely with the lunar deity Anningan, her brother. Malina is constantly fleeing from Anningan as the result of strife between the two (legends vary as to the cause). Their constant chase is the traditional explanation for the movement of the sun and moon through the sky." - futur4m4, on 07/11/2008, -0/+10I believe what you are proposing is an inter-connected network of sub-networks... we could call it the interworks! Now we just need someone brilliant to invent it... where is Al Gore?
- Cenobite, on 07/11/2008, -0/+10I actually have a friend who used to be a Windows zealot after being brainwashed by being forced to use Windows exclusively. This was a requirement made by the university where he did post-grad engineering work.
Anyway, I managed to convert him to Linux purely on the strength of Amarok. Only after he switched for the kickass music player did he discover a whole world of other awesome software. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+10If only we had a large network of information that computer users from around the world could utilize and share ideas... A place where things could be researched so people with questions could learn things that they have been wondering about... Unfortunately no network like that exists that I'm aware of so I guess I'll just have to ignore your annoying question and go about my business.
- ptFoe, on 07/11/2008, -2/+11screenshots or die
- eean, on 07/10/2008, -0/+9Wake up.
- WhereAmI, on 07/10/2008, -1/+10It uses KDE libraries to run, its not a shame. Its like how GNOME programs use GNOME libraries. Install the base KDE libraries and use it.
- ljubomir, on 07/10/2008, -0/+9It already does
- renegadeafk, on 07/11/2008, -0/+9Apparently there is no windows version yet but it is coming, banshee is getting ported to windows as well :)
- eean, on 07/10/2008, -0/+9Calling it a shame isn't a question. ;)
They are both different programming platforms for developing apps and different desktop environments. The fact that the desktop environment has the same name as the programming platform causes much confusion.
Gnome is C and Gtk, KDE uses C++ and Qt. - serenityflexed, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8God, I love everything about Amarok, even their wiki is clean and efficient.
"' Why isn't Amarok part of KDEmultimedia?'
The developers don't want the man telling them when they can release." - tikal26, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8Can you resize or zoom de plasmoids in the center panel. I would like to have a bigger plasmoid or bigger cover art.
- mstankovic, on 07/10/2008, -1/+9Malina (Serbian, Russian and other Slavic languages) = Raspberry (English)
Of course - Thumbs up for new baby! :) - chicken101, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8I use it everyday.
- colonelxc, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8They're just making awesome software to get sourceforge community choice votes.
- inactive, on 07/11/2008, -0/+8After using Amarok for a while, I actually uninstalled Winamp - which had been my default music player for about seven years - on my XP drive because it felt horribly clunky and cluttered by comparison.
Software done right. Looking forward to trying 2.0. - mynameistux, on 07/11/2008, -1/+8who else want banshee 1.1.
oh, right, no one. - mikkoc, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7bsander, I'm not sure I understand what you mean,
This is a screenshot of how dynamic playlist will work:
http://i38.tinypic.com/syxmyd.jpg
Please note that right now, it only allows random mode on the whole collection, but it will allow many other possibilities.
I manually added two albums in it, and as they are finished, the playlist will fill up with other random tracks. - ill0gical, on 07/09/2008, -5/+11Haaaaawt bitchez! it's haaaaawt!
- SupaDawg, on 07/11/2008, -1/+7it doesn't slow your system to a crawl.. that's a start.
I tried getting into MediaMonkey... too buggy. Back to winamp i went. - inactive, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5Heh, KDE FTW.
- slugicide, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5No *****. That's the first question I ask when I hear about a jukebox: "Yeah, but can I turn it on with my CELL PHONE?"
- leinir, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5We are Lone Star to iTunes' and WMP's Dark Helmet Man ;)
- Cenobite, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5Extremely useful comment. Thank you!
Edit: unlike mine :( - MrTea, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4Is phonon finished yet?
- jamesmcm, on 07/10/2008, -1/+5Oh, thanks for the help guys. Why am I getting dug-down it was only a question.
But btw, what are the differences between KDE and GNOME? - itsbradman, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4exaile is still really buggy.
- kaplanfx, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4Back when I used linux on my main boxen I fell in love with Amarok. Hopefully the Mac port will turn out nice and we will have a good alternative to iTunes.
- HorseloverFat8, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Best music player on Linux, and it WOULD be the best in Windows if it was stable.
- nightrose, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3If you have the KDE 4 libraries that are necessary installed you can run it just fine in KDE 3.
- RadonPL, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4If you like it then please consider making a donation!
I did. - Killerah, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3Really? What media program do you use, I think Amarok looks great compared to most of the other media players I've used.
- Killerah, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3Why is that a sad face? In my mind that's freaking awesome news! I'm totally stoked that my windows and mac friends get to use such an amazing piece of software. Plus it means I can use amarok in the unfortunate event that I have to boot into windows. I guess it's kind of sad that linux doesn't have the best media player all to itself anymore, but still the amarok developers deserve to have their amazing program used by as many people as possible. Props for all the hard work devs!
- bsander, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Yes, that's exactly what I mean :) Thanks!
I was worried each song would take three "lines" (two for the artist/album, one for the song), thus limiting the amount of songs in the playlist that are viewable. I see it's down to two "lines" when a single song form an album is inserted, I guess I can live with that since it looks so awesomely good :) - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3I DISAGREE!
- shrubbery, on 07/11/2008, -2/+5mac os x build? or just a source release for now? would love to try this out, but i'm not going to try and build it myself.
- nightrose, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Just source for now.
We will offer installers for MacOS when we think it is usable enough on that platform.
You can of course already compile it from source. (But you said you don't want that so...) -
