- bb4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For me, Firefox 2 has actually been an improvement over 1.5 in the amount of memory it uses (or leaks). I am currently running it in a Virtual PC session with 256MB and have multiple windows and lots of tabs open. I keep Task Manager open and periodically check memory usage and restart it when it gets close to the 256MB mark total memory used.
I have found that IE7 uses significantly more memory than Firefox 2 in almost all cases. Although I don't use it that often anymore, IE6 gets unstable with lots of windows open. Also, sites that use Ajax tend to increase memory usage substantially on all browsers that I have used.
I realize that the memory leak is a problem but it is obviously less of a problem for the typical user who doesn't take advantage of multiple tabs and windows. - hoover99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find it's Gmail causing this leak. Run Firefox 2.0 with Gmail for an hour or two and see what happens.
