- HHP2K, on 06/30/2009, -5/+258Yesterday I was fixing a computer, and the girl's web browser was Firefox 2.0. I looked at her and said "... has Firefox not prompted you to upgrade?" to which she replied "yes, but I don't like installing those add-on things, they slow it down". I couldn't help but laugh.
- donkz, on 06/30/2009, -2/+211...and then you didn't get any.
- rtaibah, on 06/30/2009, -8/+134Of course it is...
- howdareyou, on 06/30/2009, -7/+118No Adblock Plus makes the switch to Chrome a tough one.
- UselessTrivia, on 06/30/2009, -1/+82Lynx is way too flashy for me. I prefer to have the raw HTML delivered to my house on paper and render pages in my head.
- Ouze, on 06/30/2009, -10/+77if only there was a serious version of Adblock Plus available for a different platform - this race might look a lot different. Yes, I know Opera has content blocking, and no, it's not the same, or as good.
- KimNovak, on 06/30/2009, -8/+67"I'm a mac", ***** seriously?
- neillawson, on 06/30/2009, -0/+57Typical friend-zone conversation.
- krisrm, on 06/30/2009, -1/+49It's certainly not that way on Windows, not for me.
- KrayzieKyd, on 06/30/2009, -3/+46Lynx is still pretty quick for me.
- borez, on 06/30/2009, -2/+42It's damn fast.
- FritoPendejo, on 06/30/2009, -2/+40So your theory is that people who go out of their way to download an add-on that disables ads are a high source of ad revenue.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -0/+31They told IE don't you come around here.
Don't want no ActiveX, you better disappear.
The Firefox 3.5 update is here
Can't beat it, can't beat it. - ultrafez, on 06/30/2009, -0/+30It's OK, the latest version before 3.5 was 3.0.11
- FritoPendejo, on 06/30/2009, -1/+30I heard they added support for the BLINK tag in the newest version.
- TheSpook, on 06/30/2009, -8/+34"steal features"
Mac fanboy, too? - svensksvamp, on 06/30/2009, -19/+44I find Safari a lot snappier, at least on the mac.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -6/+31Just to play devil's advocate, is ad blocking necessarily a good thing, long term? If all major browsers adopt it as a default, or even if it becomes overwhelmingly popular by choice, how are sites and services that depend on advertising going to be able to support themselves?
- fungie5, on 07/01/2009, -1/+25If only he had installed FF3 for her....
One look at FF3 and she would have 'installed' herself on HIM... :-) - wsuBobby, on 06/30/2009, -2/+25If I had to pick one reason why I love and use Firefox, just one reason, it would be: Addons.
The addons are the #1 reason why I choose Firefox. Having the option to customize this browser to my exact liking and add additional features to it is indispensable. I have a handful of addons installed. Some are a must have and I can't live without (AdBlock Plus), some I use every now and then (ScreenGrab!), and some I just like to use (ColorTabs).
That's what I like. The beauty with Firefox is everyone has different addons installed that they use and love. IMO, I don't think another browser can come close to Firefox without the ability to use addons. Period. - Scr4tchFury, on 07/01/2009, -0/+18With an answer like that, she must be hot.
- BabyWookie, on 06/30/2009, -10/+28It is just as good. I use Opera as my primary browser every day and I can't remember the last time that I saw an ad. When I switch to Chrome or Safari, the difference is striking and very annoying.
- FritoPendejo, on 06/30/2009, -5/+22Then the same situation happened again except this time the question was whether or not you had a girlfriend, to which your answer was "She lives in Canada."
- adam07, on 07/01/2009, -2/+18BILLY MAYS HERE FOR FIREFOX 3.5!
- veganpa, on 06/30/2009, -0/+16plugins -- adblock, flashblock, etc. Can't live w/o.
- wolfing, on 06/30/2009, -0/+15it's mostly 'under the hood'. They use a whole new script engine so javascript is much faster than before. There's also a privacy browsing setting, and it supports video on the page (without Flash or Silverstuff).
- wildsheep, on 06/30/2009, -1/+16I like Firefox but I've been using Chrome more - I'll update but I still like both of them anyway-it's IE8 that sucks balls!
- rcarroll215, on 06/30/2009, -0/+15This isn't a support forum....
go here instead:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/ - Chewie67, on 06/30/2009, -6/+20Just updated. So far 3.5 seems pretty unremarkable. A few add-ons aren't compatible, but nothing major.
- inigomntoya, on 06/30/2009, -2/+16That sure didn't stop me...
- UselessTrivia, on 06/30/2009, -1/+15I love it. Not having that button was retarded. People that come from other browsers are used to an Add Tab button. Even if you can just double click or use the keyboard shortcut, it should always be there. Nice that they have an option to turn it off, though.
- thegreatanti, on 06/30/2009, -14/+27How about swallowing an axe?
- krakow056, on 06/30/2009, -2/+15Most people don't click or bother looking at ads.
The ones that do don't know how to use ad blocking.
So, no. - ferrisnox, on 06/30/2009, -25/+37Prefer Opera, if browsers couldn't steal features... it be the only one we are using today.
- counterplex, on 06/30/2009, -0/+12How about now?
- MtheoryX, on 06/30/2009, -4/+16Safari AdBlock works just fine for me.
- talonh, on 06/30/2009, -0/+11Interesting. Usually you attempt to be a bit more transparent when trolling. Must be an off day or something.
- petard, on 06/30/2009, -0/+11Firefox Gmail+Facebook+This page = 114MB. I don't care though, it fits easily in 4GB.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -4/+15Yes, that's my theory. Thanks for clearing that up.
- xtreme571, on 06/30/2009, -1/+12I downloaded it. LOVE the new features...especially the "forget this website" and "Recently Closed Windows"
- alexka, on 06/30/2009, -0/+11A lot of userscripts work on chrome
- recruz, on 06/30/2009, -1/+12I hear ya there-
Chrome + this Digg page: 32mb
Firefox + this Digg page: 76mb
(I only have 2 Firefox Add-ons) - zdiggler, on 07/01/2009, -0/+11I installed IE8 and I was susprise that it ask me if I want to import information from Firefox!
That's say something about Firefox IMO.
And windows 7 its play Divx and Xvid native that also say something about those codecs. - cyrusuncc, on 06/30/2009, -3/+13Downloading now!
- AdmiralAcbar, on 06/30/2009, -0/+10In my experience, the ads take longer to load than the page does. I wouldn't mind looking at ads, but it slows down my browser, especially if they're flash.
- fungie5, on 07/01/2009, -1/+10@MtheoryX -
FTA- "In memory usage, Firefox is still in the vanguard: On my tests loading 10 media-heavy websites, Firefox 3.5 used only 180MB of RAM; version 3.0 took up 212MB. IE8 needed 396MB, Google Chrome 2 used 234MB, Opera used a close 183MB, and Safari needed 353MB."
Is that enough 'citation' for you???
Next time, read the article. - UselessTrivia, on 06/30/2009, -0/+9IE had the + before Chrome did. I think Opera did too, but I'm not an opera guy.
Faster javascript engines have been in works by every major browser developer for a long time, I think Google just go theirs out first. No telling who actually started first.
Private viewing and the dragging tabs might have been novel features for Chrome. I can't say for sure if any other browser had them.
Here's the thing though, it doesn't even matter. Chrome is open source. Firefox can take whatever they want from Chrome as long as they share back. That's how open source works. - CandidateZero, on 07/01/2009, -0/+9Yeah, 'cause agreeing with a chick's misinformed ideas gets you laid.
- krisrm, on 06/30/2009, -3/+12You're going to be buried to hell for citing that ridiculous chart. What a load of nonsense.
- inactive, on 06/30/2009, -3/+12Not only would nobody ever put up with that ***** from IE-or any other browser, for that matter-they'd never stop howling about it, either.
