- Apage43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No, it hasn't been released, that's a developer version.
- Nanobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It has not been released. Several poorly-researched news stories have claimed that it has, but it hasn't. The nightly development builds had the version number changed in preparation for the alpha release, but the release isn't planned until next week.
Asa Dotzler (head of the Mozilla Quality Assurance team) responded to these claims: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2006/03/releases_1.html - tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9It was buried because FF2.0a1 *hasn't* been released: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2006/03/releases_1.html
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Should I report this as innacurate, old news, a duplicate, or lame? I can't decide!
It's just an alpha, it doesn't belong on the front page. I downloaded it yesterday and there is really very little new in it. - curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10It has hit digg, it was just burried for no justifiable reason! Here is the original story, digg this:
http://digg.com/software/Firefox_2.0_Alphas,_Updated_Daily_ - Ratty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's not alpha, it's just a nightly build. But it is faster, and appears to use less memory.
- natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What the crap? This was already mistakenly dugg here....it is NOT released yet. Go read asa's blog for details. The real release should happen tomorrow.
- Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When Firefox 2.0 Alpha 1 is released (which it is not) it should be able to install completely separately from Firefox 1.5.0.1. It'll be listed as Bon Echo in your Add/Remove programs and Start -> Programs menu.
You have to really make sure that it doesn't use your current Firefox 1.5.0.1 profiles! You could mess up your profile if you do.
When running Bon Echo (Firefox 2.0a1) you should make a completely new profile or just make a copy of your old one, just be sure to rename them. It'll convert your bookmarks.html to the new sqlite format for Places (Places is replacing the bookmark handling)
You can load up the Profile Manager by running it like so: firefox.exe -p You have to make certain that you have no firefox processes running when you do this. The profile manager will allow you to create a new profile and switch between them all. - patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not released officially.. reported
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2direct link: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/
mac is PPC only - AuLKenny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is no change to the interface, but you can't judge it by that factor alone. There have been changes made to make better use of memory and to patch up leaks.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That could be because it's a stripped alpha version or you don't have all your extensions running?
- Flyinace2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ANyone notice how much faster 2.0 is compared to Camino!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It hasn't been dugg yet, because:
= It's an alpha
= It's pretty much FireFox 1.5 still - Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Report it as inaccurate. It hasn't been released yet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2beh, I'll stick with FF1.5... The extension writers have the features taken care of, and are quite good at it (unlike FF devs *cough*). Why don't the Firefox developers just stick with improving stability, performance and APIs, and leave the features to those who know what they're doing.
- RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I suppose anything is possible, but the only extension I use is working.
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Reported as inaccurate.
- Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Quit posting this stuff. It has NOT been released. All the 'tech' sites keep jumping the gun.
If you don't see an official post on http://www.mozilla.com/ or the forums at http://www.mozillazine.org/ or a Mozilla site at all, then you know it's not released. - Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It's not the official Alpha release.
- oskob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beware. Can't be uninstalled through control panel and the uninstall seems to be uninstalling FF 1.5 instead of 2.0a1.
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you got the ftp to the source please?
- j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they changed it.
what is the CVS flag? MOZILLA_1.8_|10n isn't it - Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I remember Dear Park Alpha which was basically the alpha of 1.5. It was basically = to 1.0 in every way except that it barely worked :
- leitjaxon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seems to be more stable than 1.5 on my iBook.
- SpazticChips, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-1.6a1.en-US.win32.zip
from a couple hours ago.
Yeah, i've been getting them for a while, auto update - mikes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2will i still be able to run 1.5 with 2.0 ?
- RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't care if it's the official release or not, it seems to have GREATLY helped with the memory issue. While it still seems to use considerably more memory then Opera, it's a step in the right direction.
- proph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't know about you guys, but the link forwards me to some blog that tries to run hostile java code. Be careful.
- ubern00b, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It did hit digg already and made it to the front page.
http://www.digg.com/software/How_To_Test_Firefox_2.0_Alpha_1_Without_Installing_It - peekj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's Techcrunch....
- your_mom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i downloaded FF2.0 alpha. someone had the portabel version. it looked and acted exactly teh same. even has teh same crashes for me. dont know why though
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No great difference to 1.5 except that the Live Bookmarking is WORSE! I sometimes want to put my feeds somewhere OTHER than my toolbar mozilla!
- donnyburnside, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks but after reading the comments i'm going to pass on this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Heh. I don't even use bookmarks anymore. I use Simpy.com -- I only keep the half dozen most frequent bookmarks I use (like stuff in the office) on my menu bar. That's it. :)
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I posted the portable version of 2.0 on my site, so you don't have to worry about your profile/uninstall:
http://basicfunction.com/html/?postid=92 - hriwo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I wish ad-block was supported, but it is still alpha.
- thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The Mac version isn't even universal. What crap. Safari owns anyways.
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I don't like this guy's blog.
"I don’t care if it is an alpha, it has to be more stable than v.1.5."
Yeah, a pure amateur. In my rulebook, alpha/beta means "STILL DOESN"T WORK."
I'll check it out later, though... - fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Dupe.

http://www.shoutcentral.com - Markrosoft, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Oh god, please don't make me re-do all my extensions again...
- oskob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0No extensions are working yet.
- SenyorDrew, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0digg, no. Comments on digg? Sometimes
- nagstaku, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1well, this could be interesting news... but its not. If firefox didn't release so many new versions and get updated so often then this would be remarkable. However, opera is superior in my mind so i couldn't really comment on the worthiness of a FF alpha release. hopefully some might like this, but i would tend to agree this isn't front page news. However, i give props to whoever posted and got a front page story.
::cheers:: - jeff1943, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2so this is why we should report it down =D
*reports* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0is anybody else having problems with digg?
