- DjOverEZ, on 07/30/2008, -0/+14Yeah, it's called "If They Mated" from Conan O'Brien.
- nothugo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+12Does no-one understand the principle of linking to the original source any more?

*faps* - Super6, on 07/30/2008, -0/+9Or you could just blur it...
- TheDiceMan, on 07/30/2008, -0/+9Lets hope your face isn't in the face library.
- smurf22, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8Wow gizmodo linking to boing boing, then boing boing leads to another blog. ***** sweet spam in spam.

Two negatives = positive? - rlbigfish, on 07/30/2008, -1/+7Dugg for Gizmodo's actual headline for the article.

Also where is the software?? sounds fun - MaxterICC, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4She's all yours, dude.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -1/+5If it doesn't change your bone structure, then you could still be identified by automated systems. It would just be harder for the average person to identify you.
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3...with a moustashe...
- liljay2k, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3The 'females' who failed the gender test for the Olympics might need this sort of thing.
- nodong, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4The first pair should breed. The second should not.
- leerayIG88, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Yes..what is the name of this software?
- chedabob, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/2008/04/cur ...
I was expecting something like that. - MasterThief117, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2So, where can I find this software?
- erichw1504, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Thanks, that page is alot better and shows more images.
- towjam, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3yeah....err..uh....even though shes a 30 something woman and he is a 12 year old boy
- Olfster, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2So in addition to an AKA (also known as) we now will have an ASA (also seen as). Interesting. I know there are systems based of off NIST work for the FBI that account for encompassing many besides just a mug shot pictures as well as the usual info. Gets pretty detailed as far as I have seen.
- Sumtin2Say, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1If the sexes were swapped on the first pair, think of the reaction of those who imagined them breeding considering their respective ages. The upside to this pedophillic union is that it produced Lou Diamond Phillips.
- hwy9nightkid, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1..Dad?
- KevInTx, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Now if you could only do this real time in live video you'd end up with something like the "Laughing Man" from "Ghost in the Shell". Scary but it could be fun to play with. :)
- sadisticmind, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1what would u get if you crossed Jessica alba and mega man?
- Merlaak, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I'm not buying it. The article mentions a software program (not by name) with a screen shot that shows the ability for a human to select faces and swap them. It then adds some interesting thoughts about doing this automatically, but it's mentioned very conceptually. The problem is that there are just too many variables to take into account. I know pattern recognition software is getting more sophisticated every day, but I just don't see a software program being able to handle the endless variety of not only facial structures, but also environments in which you'd find those faces. What about faces cast in shadow? What about 3/4 views? It may be possible, but it would be neither easy nor cheap.
Plus, I can already imagine the strange places that faces would start ending up where the computer got confused about a face-like shape. You'd have faces showing up in bushes, on sculptures, on rock formations... all over the place. Then what do you do when you have these flattened images that you can't undo?
Finally, it would take a very sophisticated program indeed to achieve the results showed in the examples. Those examples weren't just simple swaps. Skin tones, shadows, and facial hair were all matched fairly flawlessly. I just don't see anything like this being replicated automatically. - WindsorBoy, on 07/30/2008, -1/+2That chick on the bottom right is HOT!
- IgWannA, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1let's here it for the vague blur.
- sb66, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I promise I never wanted to cross a woman with a little boy...but its a definite improvement for the first chick!
- b2347b, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Doesn't work. I used this and none of my friends could find me on facebook. AND THERE WERE STILL CREEPERS!!!
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I really don't want pictures of a world filled with Alfred E. Newman.
- Ryosen, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Shopped.
- glinsvad, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Even better, there are loads more in the original paper by Dmitri Bitouk and Neeraj Kumar of Columbia University
http://www.tinyurl.com/6ehog5 - Dracusis, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1This isn't news, Michael Jackson has been doing this for years.
- leerayIG88, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1oooo-yea
- Qubous, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Thats also not the first blog post on this topic. I submitted an earlier one to digg myself. It also had a link to the scientific paper in it.
- tiuk, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I almost spit water all over my monitor, thanks.
- tablatronix, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Not to mention rotation and skew.
- BossKey, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Rollin Hand approves.
- Super6, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I did read it, however I, unlike you, do not find freakish cross-gender faces more "appealing" than a simple blur on street view
- dracostimpy, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1So basically, street view will make all of America look like San Francisco?
- ieatpizza, on 07/30/2008, -2/+2I want a five hair mustache :(
- glinsvad, on 07/30/2008, -1/+1RTFA they clearly state the reasons why the "face swapping" technique is favorable over doing blur/erase. Visual appeal is one, automation another...
- sanogopapa, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0it's populated by girls with gross facial hair and unsettling boy-women."m
- lilkgd26, on 07/30/2008, -0/+0I just feel bad for that little boy.
