If google disabled it, it would be cencorship and I'm sure there'd be plenty of contraversy, and it will always be a niche service compared to P2P, and with thousands of sites providing the surface (rather than a few tracker sites in the case of bittorrent) the RIAA will have a tough time stopping it - just look how successful they've been with bittorrent.

- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's a usefull trick, but I it's no more leagle than using P2P, generally harder to find full albums and often has longer download times/lower quality. On the other hand, it may be usefull for those behind a work firewall or whose IP throttles bandwidth, so I'll digg.
I guess you can also be fairly sure you won't get caught, since the site owners are hardly in a position to disclose your IP (what they're doing is punishable by a much higher fine, and if the RIAA is responsible it's entrapment so the same applies). - Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1As I said below,

On the other hand, if the RIAA subpoenaed the site you downloaded them from, you could be in a bit of trouble (although not as much as with P2P, since you're not actually distributing anything). - electrichead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I can't believe it, this actually works! How safe is it?
