- disti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I already have a web server running in my Qtek 9100.. Just take Python CE and SimpleHTTPServer and you're pretty much done.. =D
- truffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Some day I will be able to run a web server in my shoe. I will be able to respond in real time to requests from users that I change my gait. If my shoelace becomes untied site visitors will be able to tell me saving me from a potential accident. REPENT THE SHOE HTTP REVOLUTION IS NIGH.
- MoneyShot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Can you ACK me now?"
- 7sinz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7For shame. Such a terrible pun is a SYN.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7We will certainly be seeing a lot of server timeouts if it is using TMobile!
- jdollah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What is this obsession with having everything play mp3s and serve web pages? My toaster oven needs an LCD screen and speakers like my cell phone needs a web server.
- jhepoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is old news.. here is a working mobile phone server:

- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4if this happens, warez, exploit and torrent servers will run rampant... i can live with that...
- stou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3or cingular
- tangential, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Considering qtopia(www.trolltech.com) based phones are essentially a linux stack, this is nothing new.
- jotux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3oh I get it, "run" rampant...cute.
- Fraggenstein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. Did anyone stop to think that just because you can it doesn't mean you should. Phones have poor batteries - imagine your web site dying because you forgot to charge the phone up that morning. Phones are also easily stolen and broken. It just sounds like too much hassle to me !
- Whitey04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This will revolutionize the world! Just like the segway.
- markob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2True, but today's phones (my N70 for example) last up to 3 days with normal use (above average calls, checking mails, taking photos, ...). With batteries lasting longer and longer, it's just a matter of time. But in the end, it's the ISP (telecomunication company) that spoils it all with idiotis prices and poor coverage.
- giancydni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not actually old.. only 17 days late..
- PaulRay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Awww Man!!! My phone just got Dugg!!!
- xamox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I have a Sharp Zaurus that could run apache on it. It was fine for serving up a page or so but not sure what kind of load it could handle.
- optikburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the screenshots from:
http://raldztech.blogspot.com/2006/08/how-to-turn-your-mobile-phone-into-web.html
especially his desktop running Ubuntu to test the mobile phone server. - smilbandit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't think about it like a regular web server that has to be up all the time. It could be used like openid and only be running when your connected to the internet. Anyways it's got two issues right now battery life and data costs, which over time could be fixed. The real problem this type of thing is facing is "How are the carrier's going to make money off this?"
- billybob476, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now all the ladies can NAK me.
- turfyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The possibilities for a system like this are endless! Think of all the different types of social applications that could be developed. Something to look forward to as technology gets more miniature and more powerful.
- digdug2020, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0You mean:
I think you meant "How do you ACK me now?"
Hope this helps.
