Well that, and the fact that once you graduate from high-school, you might get a job in IT where people in the real world here use web conferencing apps all the time. We use it to demonstrate our products but also to do remote support for our software when the client is running in closed networks. Adobe, Microsoft and IBM also use this type of app to manage their webinars so they can do customer education. I'd say this type of app is VERY useful for a lot of IT companies (whether you sell software or just use software) and I'm very impressed that there is now a free one, considering that the other web conferencing applications out there like WebEx cost a small fortune for every session...
I know I'm being a little harsh here, but if you're going to criticize someone else's efforts, you had better know what the hell you are talking about. - drumnbass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Any Mac users interested in this kind of thing should probably note that similar functionality is coming built-in to Leopard via iChat.

I am a mac user but what I hate about iChat's video conferencing is obvious. I can't video conference with PCs. Lame! - uggidi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3how different is this from logmein? I use logmein and the free version lets the remote user control my computer which doesn't seem to be supported in the free version of yugma.

iChat can video conference with AOL AIM windows client (pre-Triton). The video
on the windows AIM side is rather dissatisfying, because the windows AIM clients doesn't allow full screen resolution and no H.264 either.
I would recommend Sightspeed for both Mac and PC video conferencing.
It works with iSight and a decent range of other webcams.
http://www.sightspeed.com/ - dmaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3how is this different from http://vyew.com/ ? Looks like you don't need to install anything for vyew (just need java and flash installed), looks like you DO need to install software for Yugma, no?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1check out this little blurb on the comparisons of the conferencing software:

You might find it useful. - polo8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This used to be called letspowwow http://www.letspowwow.com/. I've been alternating between Unyte http://www.unyte.net/ and that for the last few months to share documents between the US and Ireland. Both are good although Unyte is now limiting my sharing to 1 user. Also, letspowwow sometimes refuses to share my documents due to problems with the colabits software it uses. Still, as long as it's free I'll keep using it.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And how exactly is that relevant?
- mcnugget, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I have to agree with DreadPirateWes. Read that title and description again and tell me it doesn't sound like an ad.
@wphj
It's too late, they've gotten to you... - webtech, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6More information and screenshots in here:

- Pyrogen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like LetsPowWow features like changing presenters will no longer be free under Yugma according to their news section. Forced upgrade to paid services if you actually use LetsPowWow the way they suggested.
- drogers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What I'd like is not yet another a web conferencing service, but a web conferencing APP that I can host on my macbook or linux box... not THAT would be sweet!
- geoplaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2With the number of hackers already sharing the average users computer via spyware, aren't they already sharing their computer collaboratively?
- wphj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I dugg it and I don't think it's spam. If it's interesting, who cares?

At the upcoming Web 2.0 Expo, Yugma is offering anybody the ability to share their desktop for a live virtual presentation at their booth. Anyone interested in participating should sign up here: www.yugma.com/stage2 - cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2looks like a very cool software, and looks like a good example of Java Web Start.. suprisingly
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"free" ... "easy" .. Spam.
- polo8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The difference is with vyew you need to upload documents to the server, you don't with this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh my GOD! Would you stop digging this. Its an AD!!!
- digiprod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Check out http://www.Marratech.com for better web conferencing. There is a free version.
- timxpx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3looks cool. i can use this to work with all those telecommuters at the office who i've yet to meet in person.
- benhorstmann, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2i'm sure someone is going to write an app to auto-change the ext. to .jpg then auto change it back on the recipient zune.
- megaman2005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Looks interesting...I'll have to check into this in a little more detail.
- static_13, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@ headswine's "Why share a desktop?"
Because web2.0 companies need reasons to create all kind of crappy ***** that never passes the beta stage. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Why share a desktop?
It's slow.
It requires a download by everyone pn both sides.
You can't interact with the audience.
Why not get modern with a real interactive product like...
