- greggles, on 02/13/2008, -1/+27Woohoo! At long last we get to play with all the new goodies in this release. The drag and drop improvements are going to blow people away. Videocasts of the new features are available here http://drupal.org/node/128752
- sonu27, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Here is also a live demo of version 6.0: http://amarjeetrai.co.uk/drupal/
Installed it yesterday, and it is the first time I install Drupal, so I'm still learning.
Any tips and tracks would help. Thanks!
- sonu27, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Here is also a live demo of version 6.0: http://amarjeetrai.co.uk/drupal/
- chaosmachine, on 02/13/2008, -0/+14Well, that was sooner than I thought!
- Bashrat, on 02/13/2008, -0/+23Not to forget, Drupal 6 is shipping with jQuery 1.2.3, so you'll be able to take advantage of jQuery UI and jQuery Enchant out-of-the-box!
- Arancaytar, on 02/13/2008, -6/+1There may be a technical problem that will cause you to see an Access Denied message if you are not logged in. I'm sure it will get fixed within a few minutes; you can see the news now by registering an account at d.o.
- Gurpartap, on 02/13/2008, -1/+7It has been fixed now :)
- catch56, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5But what will I do now?
..apart from upgrading Drupal 5 sites, and Drupal 7 of course:)- Arancaytar, on 02/13/2008, -0/+5If I'm lucky, my Drupal sites will be on 6.0 by the time 7.0 is released. So many custom modules and so much CCK+Views meta-structure...
- keith587, on 02/13/2008, -0/+11I've been using a pre-release development version for my blog for some time now, and can definitely vouch for this being the best release yet. Congrats to all the Drupal developers on the release.
- AmyStephen, on 02/13/2008, -1/+17Congratulations! Drupal ROCKS! Way to go, Drupal community! :-)
- Charybdisz, on 02/13/2008, -3/+5Super cool, congrats to the entire team!
- scor, on 02/13/2008, -2/+9That's a great reward for all who worked on Drupal 6!
- matthwk, on 02/13/2008, -0/+20With Microsoft, IBM, and Google adding support for OpenID, it is definitely a great feature to see included in this release!
- sgluskin, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7Hats off to Gabor and the, literally, hundreds of developers who worked on the code. Is there an official number regarding how many developers took part? In any case, it is impressive. Thank you!
- NikLP, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10This release, with the new drag & drop menus and blocks, will really help usability and new users will just ... smile.
Interface and content translation will make this CMF the toast of the town :) - tringtring, on 02/13/2008, -0/+11This is great news...I tried a number of CMS and found Drupal simplest and most useful...the D&D menus will certainly make this excellent product even better!
Thank you! - tvitamin, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5Way to go! I just started working with version 5.7 yesterday and very happy to see Drupal 6 released!
Thank you! - robertDouglass, on 02/13/2008, -0/+39No Drupal developers are allowed to sleep this week... it's time to update those contrib modules!
- kckern, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0Amen!!!! I just upgraded, and I now I feel like i'm all restricted because none of my modules work!
- peacho, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0Sorry dude, I accidentally buried instead of dug it. I meant to say I liked it. :)
- BrightLoudNoise, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Fantastic, I look forward to upgrading my sites to Drupal 6 to take advantage of the much easier theming options.
- troydoogle7, on 02/13/2008, -0/+16Drupal doesn't come out for me until I get the new views and cck! But great work guys! With joomla 1.5 and drupal 6 its a great time to be in php
- protramper, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Only built websites for others until now but now I'll definitely get myself a blog running with D6. Just to check out all the new stuff. Especially looking forward to try the new menu system and theming with the new devel module.
- mellenger, on 02/13/2008, -0/+11having the new devel module built in is great for themers, and replacing weight with drag and drop is the killer app!
- Leech, on 02/13/2008, -3/+5niiiice! Love Drupal
- arkmtech, on 02/13/2008, -0/+8I've developed a handful of successful sites around CMS Made Simple [ >> http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/ ] and WordPress [ >> http://www.wordpress.org ], but have often felt there's got to be something better & sleeker...
Drupal's power as a content/community management system has always impressed me for the many sites that utilize it, and I've read gushing reviews on many a developer's blog heralding Drupal as the "best of the best".
Despite my enthusiasm to learn, though, Drupal has always seemed intimidating - so I'm eagerly hoping the improvements to v.6 will clear up some of the bewilderment I and others have experienced over Drupal's "taxonomy" system in previous versions.- Rowanw, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4The forms for creating vocabularies and terms in taxonomy have been simplified significantly, I guarantee you won't feel intimidated when creating vocabularies in D6.
- Daniel15, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I'm another CMS Made Simple user, but I might take a look at Drupal seeing as it seems to rank quite well :)
- dipout, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5I love Drupal... D6 here i come
- bpocanada, on 02/13/2008, -2/+7Boy! - This definitely would be a release that would go in history books as the one of the best CMS release. Truely awesome! Great work Gabor! and all developers.
I now have a challenge to increase my Drupal team which has quietly been working along the release to get on D6 and we have a large client project starting 1 March on D6. and yes we have upgraded http://www.drupal.org/project/ePublish for Drupal 6 and made it available. We will release D6 versions of all modules we maintain very soon.

- silvanov2002, on 02/13/2008, -0/+5Thats great news, can't wait til all the modules I'm using on my drupal site are updated.
- davidnaian, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3Thank's to all Drupal Developers, Proofs, Contributors, Newbys.
Cheers - nborda, on 02/13/2008, -0/+5A big thank you to all the core developers, your efforts are much appreciated. Can't wait t instal this on my localhost.
- techguy10, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0I agree, thank you as well.. if drupal ever helps me get to where I want to be in developing websites I'll definitely give back to the community ($$$), back I go to trying :)
- Tiak, on 02/13/2008, -8/+3Still in upcoming with 292 diggs (when articles on the FP have 156)... o.O
Seriously, does no one here "vary their activity"?- momsshizzle, on 02/13/2008, -12/+2Don't worry. I dugg it down.
- Duositex, on 02/13/2008, -6/+1Easier than????
- brownspank, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2The previous version. As in, "THIS VERSION of Drupal is easier to use for..."
- travbrack, on 02/13/2008, -2/+13I've used Joomla for the last couple years. Are there any compelling reasons to switch to Drupal?
- godfly, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2same sentiments
- nullity, on 02/13/2008, -1/+141. Drupal is built from the ground up to be modular and flexible.
2. The source code doesn't look like a pile of spaghetti.
3. Half the developers didn't leave to start a commercial company causing a huge rift in the community.
... Dunno, it was reason enough for me. -- former Mambo developer- techguy10, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3Its far more scalable, it doesn't hide the code the way joomla does so basically if you're not an expert programmer (which I'm certainly not) and you start on a project and realize that what you're trying to do is broader than what Drupal already covers you should be able to find any skilled web programmer and even if they have never heard of Drupal in their life they should still be able to work with it for you to get the results you want (hope you get what I mean).. with Joomla it seems like its really just aimed at people who want to test out a CMS whereas I can see how Drupal could easily be the seed that could be used to build some really complex web apps.
- peacho, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0And it is! If you look at the release page, it says just some of the big sites that use it.

- momsshizzle, on 02/13/2008, -18/+2Oh wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not.
- bundus, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6The issue with downloading a bleeding edge Drupal release is the lack of updated modules. If you're fine with updating them all yourself, or you code your own modules then have at it. Unfortunately for many of us a 6.0 release is rather anti-climatic.
- trouble916, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3Same holds true starting from scratch. I figured I'd go check it out for a couple upcoming projects. While it does look like they've done an excellent job getting the core and most used modules current, many of the ones I want to use are still in "dev" state. Hopefully it won't take too long for the active modules to come up to speed. Looks pretty nice.
- sgluskin, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0By June 1, it'll be time to start upgrading sites and launching new ones with D6. Until then, start a blog with and play around. The waiting is just part of the process. And anyone can jump in to help make it go faster.
- peacho, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0http://groups.drupal.org/node/5036
^That page lists the status of all (or at least most) contributed modules in terms of D6 readiness.

- marcrobinsone, on 02/13/2008, -4/+2Simply Amazing.
- Anth, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2I just want it to work on Oracle damnit! It would be a great way to increase corporate Drupal penetration. I'm running a hacked 4.7.x version because thats the last version I saw that worked. I think they were trying to work on that for ver 7.
- Arancaytar, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Indeed. Oracle support is afaik being worked on.
- etx313, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4DOWNLOAD NOW! Figure it out later...
- Thomaschaaf, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4Uh I need to make new designs then.. but I'm going to wait 3 months for professional use so I know its stable
- jchrome, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4Great news, I've been testing all the 6 RC's on a subdomain and the new features/improvements are really welcomed! Sadly I can't put this into production until the many, many contrib modules and themes get updated... I'm running about 13 sites off of one 5x install with something like 95 modules between them (not all on one site obviously!).
- pugsby, on 02/13/2008, -2/+3I've used Drupal 5 for a good half-dozen different sites, but lately I've converted into more of a Joomla fan. But in reality, both have their purposes. And I know for sure that I'll give Drupal 6 at the very least a trial run, as it really is a good stable CMS to build from.
- techguy10, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2I did the opposite, I used to use Joomla and switched to Drupal I don't see the comparison Drupal is far more customizable, Joomla just seems to get in the way of itself, just my opinion though
- peacho, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0I also followed your path. Drupal is just so much more flexible and powerful. I'm not a big coder, but it certainly suits my needs really well with all the modules (though I'll probably on D5 for a while longer)

- flap, on 02/13/2008, -7/+1Is it easier to build sites without using tables now...?
- spudlyo, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3Nice to see that block caching made it into this release, so that authenticated users see some performance gains.
- Dakart, on 02/13/2008, -2/+2Hey!
I'm actually working on a Drupal project right now and we're looking for some Drupal programmers to work as contractors as we are building a number of sites for a large and well known entertainment company. Knowledge of Ubercart implementation and Drupal 6 Theming is a plus. If you're interested, you can contact me by emailing dakart@bakersman.com with the subject Drupal Job. - dvdd127, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2yah, simply put I am not going to rush the update to 6 because there are certain things I need in my drupal sites that i dont see in 6.0.
- devtrash, on 02/14/2008, -5/+0Yeah. Good luck getting any support for it now. Everyone will focus in 7.0 now. Oooo shiny. But I have issues, with X, oh X will be in Version 7.
Seriously. There are HUNDREDS of issues in the queue like this, and 90% of them started with 4.6 version tags. - ellisgl, on 02/14/2008, -8/+1I've tried Drupal - but found ModX (http://www.modxcms.com) The simplest to use with it's template, snippet and chunk engine.
BTW Digg developers - FIX The issue with staying logged in with IE.- Rowanw, on 02/14/2008, -0/+9Oh BTW, don't use IE.
- vanden9, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1Hey can some make this into a .deb ?
- xxiao, on 02/14/2008, -0/+5drupal is the best cms i personally have experienced. give it a shot if you have not done that.
- techguy10, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0Why would you need it in a .deb file? Anyways, I've been trying to install new themes like I used to in the older version of Drupal and its not working, really annoying but I'm not sure if they made some changes in the way you're supposed to do it or if its some bug in the code, I didn't realize it just came out today so maybe thats why, well back to 5.0 I go for now.
- amoeba, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1a .deb file is a debian package that can be used to deploy drupal easily on debian-based servers.
- GerryBot, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3Wow - Drupal's image is improving within Digg - I remember one of the release threads for a previous version was filled with negative comments. Now it's nothing but praise! Well done!
- nommo, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0love it - i recently started building a site in drupal 5 - some of the annoyances have been sorted with this release (particularly role based perms in core) - good work!
- MarkEarhart, on 02/14/2008, -9/+1Welcome to all of my new friends. Digg had decided to censor me (again,) this time by not allowing me to send shouts.
