- brsly, on 12/07/2007, -1/+15Don't fear the Drupal. It is (in my opinion) the best CMS out there.
- cosmicdreams, on 12/07/2007, -1/+13Absolutely, welcome to the internet age.
- STyL3, on 12/07/2007, -1/+8Bring on RC1!
- manitoba98xp, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7Yup. It's the difference between a marketing team and a geek. On the other hand, what does "Excel" have to do with spreadsheets, or "Flash" with web animation?
- jswaby, on 12/07/2007, -1/+7Once RC1 is out, I'll be porting all my theme's and modules to Drupal 6. I know there are a lot of users out there waiting for that :)
- keathmilligan, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5It still supports PHP 4 according to the release notes, but I haven't tried it on 4.x in quite a while.
- diidiiidiid, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5Drupal has developed so much over the last year or so. They've added more neat ajax for example. It'll be fun to see what exacty in this version. Does anybody know if they've stopped supporting php 4 in Drupal6?
- keathmilligan, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4I installed this yesterday and played around with it a bit. Lots of bug fixes, the install and admin functions are cleaner and tighter. The only downside to 6 right now is the lack of Views support, but hopefully, the developers of that module will have it ready in time for release.
- WidgetBucks, on 12/07/2007, -2/+6Loving Drupal !!!
- HalfGiraffe, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4On the same principle, we should avoid Linux because it sounds like "penis" and Fridays because it sounds like "fried ass".
- brsly, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4 What is Flex, InDesign, Coldfusion, Dreamweaver, Illustrator?
- xamox, on 12/08/2007, -0/+4The new AJAX menu ordering system is awesome. It saves so much time! AJAX block movement is nice too. Go drupal!
- amoeba, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3"Drupal (pronounced /ˈdruːpəl/) is a free and open source modular content management system (CMS) written in the programming language PHP. A CMS is a tool used by Web administrators to automatically track online visitors and prepare customized content for consumption, usually as HTML-based Web pages. Drupal, like many modern CMSs, allows the system administrator to customize the content and display of the Web site with little or no programming."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drupal - soopafly, on 12/07/2007, -1/+4I guess if you're used to product names like "Microsoft EasyCD Creator Plus Deluxe Home Edition 2003"... everything else sounds funny.
- fatbeaver, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3go drupal!!!!
- CoolGoose, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2It still supports it. From 7.0 onwards it will be php >= 5.2 only.
- brsly, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Those interested in that can read more about it here: http://drupal.org/node/193346
- thegreatgazoo, on 12/07/2007, -6/+8When you do the announcements like this, can you mention what the flip the product does? Open source projects have such goofy names anyway. Adobe has Photoshop. Open source has GIMP.
Just an observation from an outsider... - thejerm, on 12/07/2007, -10/+12Do we really need to know about every beta release?
- Takuro, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2Yeah, you gotta love these sort of sites featuring products that nowhere mention clearly what the product even is. I think it's an elitist thing or something... if you don't know what it is, you're considered dumb.
After digging through the sites FAQs for 5 minutes, I finally found out that it's apparently a "content management system" (which is sort of an ambiguous description.) Apparently, they don't wish to "fully educate you on database, web server" and other technologies. That's up to you.
Which makes me wonder: Is this like Joomla, where you only need to copy some setup files over FTP, or is this like installing PHP on a personal server than you own? o_O
I know some people would digg me down and say "oh go read some tutorials," but isn't web 2.0 about simplicity and straightforwardness?
(P.S. Digg - my sessions keep expiring in Safari. It sucks. Fix it.) - STyL3, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2actually...we do. no reason (for me at least) to be using beta 3 if beta 4 has been released.
- thegreatgazoo, on 12/07/2007, -1/+3A list of example poor names for poducts. Commerical products aren't perfect, but they are doing a better job than open source.
For instance, Grub is a product that could help someone migrate away from Windows. Sounds more like a computer virus.
Drupal sounds like a well known cross dresser
GIMP sounds like a handicapped user assistance program
And the list goes on. I'm not trying to be harsh, but the open source community needs to think about this or we're going to remain on the fringe. - brsly, on 12/07/2007, -0/+2You are correct... marketing sucks. Drupal was not a name chosen by American speaking marketing managers. But the OSS projects don't really need marketing managers to come in and screw up there products. They will survive one there own merits.
- clouseau, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1What is Drupal? Why not ask Google?

The first hit should answer your question. - bjornski, on 12/08/2007, -1/+2Stop the genocide in Drupal!
oh wait.... - UwasaWaya, on 12/07/2007, -0/+1I actually just learned about it because my writer's guild just built a forum with it... hadn't heard of it before though.
- AwesomeAndy, on 12/07/2007, -2/+3Sweet! So, uh, what the hell is Drupal?
- pxlpshr, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Drupal is awesome once you get over the learning barrier... just be careful and don't have too much fun installing/uninstalling every module possible, without clearly thinking about your problem; some of the 3rd party modules are sloppy. There are some pain points with Drupal, I won't deny that... but the platform is quite solid and powers a number of high profile sites... like mlgpro.com, theonion.com, mtv.co.uk, and a few others.
Currently running Drupal 5 and looking forward to watching Drupal grow... i question how seamless the transition to Drupal 6 will be though. - jacquesm, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I've been playing with drupal for a week and a bit now, and while I'm very impressed I have also had plenty of 'wow this is messy' moments. Being modular is cool (think apache), but the amount of modules for drupal and the duplication of effort is absolutely amazing. Also, it doesn't do a whole bunch of stuff that you would normally expect a CMS to do for you (such as images...).
- shadash, on 12/07/2007, -2/+3We do that to keep the microsoft users away
- willfe, on 12/08/2007, -0/+1Nope! You're more than welcome to scroll right on by the announcement! :)

http://drdcha.qlbe.com/page/1.html - MakakNo1, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1I've been using Drupal for a while now and it's great. A steep learning curve but a very flexible CMS. It does do images godnews, not sure why it doesn't come as standard http://drupal.org/project/image combined with Thickbox and CCK it's pretty powerful stuff.
- STyL3, on 12/10/2007, -0/+1actually you're assessment is fair. i do indeed love drupal, but for someone trying to figure out what it can do and learning more about it, it takes awhile to become accustomed to the way drupal works. but once you do, it's fantabulous.
however, these issues are being addressed to make it more user-friendly for those who don't like having to "dig" for information when they shouldn't have to. - sgluskin, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1Great CMS, great community.
