- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Did the Drupal CMS improve your love life too?
- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hey so that's what it looks like when you do mad libs with computer terms.
- cloudsoup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Drupal is an opensource content management system written in PHP and running against MySQL. It's very modular - there's the core functionality delivered through core modules - and then there's a bunch of free add-on modules that'll allow you to build just about anything.
It is a little more complicted than Joomla, initially, but it's more flexible and I chose Drupal over Joomla a while back for a customer for two reasons - at the time Drupal could deliver standards-compliant HTML to the browser while Joomla couldn't, not without some serious hacks; and Drupal had much better multi-lingual capabilities. Also, URLs un Drupal can be made to be much more human-friendly than in Joomla.
Drupal has an very sophisticated categorisation mechanism- can be puzzling to grasp to begin with
Some sites running on Drupal:

Lots of drupal sites look very similar and the out of the box themes are a bit tired but there really isn't any reason not to let your imagination go. - Bashrat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The new aggressive page caching really is *much* faster!
- banglogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm seeing general speed gains in my Drupal 5.x sites vs the 4.x ones but my sites do not make much use of "community" features - fairly static stuff. The rest of the improvements in administration and overall polish make this a great upgrade. I'd like to see a few of my favorite modules make the transition. For example: Acidfree -- remade to be all Drupal-y and Lightbox2 -- It's everywhere these days (except 5.x), to name a couple. I do see that more are making their way over every day though.
p.s.: @negativefx: People who decide to comment on an article they have no interest in, only to say "I have no interest in this.", are awesome. Thanks for adding to the conversation. - UnConeD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4By the way, this benchmark only compares page generation time. Drupal 5 includes amongst other things a CSS preprocessor, that drastically reduces the number of files served. This should improve page loading across the board, especially for first time visitors.
In any case, currently the Drupal team (and Karoly Negyesi in particular) is revamping one of Drupal's key components (the menu callback system, which handles routing, paths, navigation, etc) so it's much more efficient. Drupal 6 will probably blaze all over Drupal 5 and 4.7. - CoolGoose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Go Drupal :). Faster means better :D. (at least from my point of view).
- magnusdopus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been doing heavy Drupal work for 4 weeks now. Doing development on 4.7. You can't switch to 5.0 till the majority of the modules are migrated. There are some minor design flaws that force you to develop hacks. I have an issue when the core registration/login is atypical, and you end up having to track down a replacement (LoginToboggan) to build a standard reg process. The major highlights of the product is the 3rd party development. You can build almost any type of site with Drupal and the right combination of modules.
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So for blogging purposes, is drupal better than wordpress/textpattern?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4yes, but i had to use Wine to make css work.
- Tankslap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0You could try to "Google it"....oh nevermind.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Are you guys catching what I'm throwing down? It's totally web2.oetry
- tsunami643, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I think negativefx is truly on to something here.
- PlaidPhantom, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1So...um...what *is* Drupal, and why might I care?
- modiddley, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Drupal is what happens to yer ***** after 2 kids... ba dum ching.
Seriously... use a search engine, they usually work. - crgnetworks, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6http://www.joomla.org
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1oh Man, I can't believe the performance gains over 4.6. I used to get some lag trying to move a transparent Vi window around while updating my RPM's but now its noticeably improved. Things like mp3 encoding and decoding, and sometimes my scanner (when it works) is faster.
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -25/+6I think the real question is "How does the new Drupal stack up to those who don't give a *****?"
