Sorted - coolguy69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Firefox Only Extension... for those caught unaware
- uncool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this was actually in the very first episode of diggnation. So old news, but good stuff for the newcomers.
- KillerJ59J, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think looking at the source code then crlt+f and type in the extesion like .swf ... But I guess this works too
- rmckillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So handy.
- stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*cough* Flashgot
- .Steven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0greasemonkey
- 40oz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there something like this for Opera???
TIA - stevey5036, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i use greasemonkey to grab all the embeded stuff..
- utch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet nice find! Works like a charm
- maddog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"*cough* Flashgot"
exactly.
is it any better than the flashgot extension??
anybody?? - mixpix405, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I use adblock too - but this one sounds just as good
- sahanx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YOU ROCK! I sooooooo needed this!
- dragoonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wah wah wah.
The extension probably already uses that info - it just downloads ALL the embeds automatically.
It's a short cut extension. You know, to make things easier? Not a familiar concept? - Soave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0'To save embedded objects via Firefox: Tools / Page Info / Media'
Beat me too it. - nugget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To save embedded objects via Firefox: Tools / Page Info / Media'
I did not know that. Thanks, better than installing mroe stuff - chrono13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So... an extension that provides the same functionality that is already in Firefox?
What is next? An extension that allows you to right click selected text and "copy"? Wait... holy crap, that is such a good idea. Then I wouldn't have to bring up a word processor and re-type text all the time... I could "copy" and "paste" it. Wow.
To save embedded objects via Firefox: Tools / Page Info / Media
That's it.
No seriously... that's it. Why would someone add more code (potential for more bugs, loading more on start-up, etc) for this "feature"? Firefox can already do this.
No Digg. - Draconiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no they talked about the page info option in firefox not an extension
- ghostaliaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look all you pains in the Bu**s I put this story up so the newbs would have something to use to download embedded oblects in a page and not do much work to do it and that is what it does, but you know it alls criticize everything, so what you know how to do it a different way well so do I and I posted one of my ways which was this story I found and I am sharing one of mine what are you all doing besides talking about it. Get a life & maybe try putting up your own little tips and maybe try helping someone instead of criticizing us that do try, so wah wah to the big mouths & you pains do not have to use it.
- WillyWonka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hehe, I programmed the save as button in the media tab. So weird to see people talking about it. I didn't think people used it.
- tagawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just installed this and now Firefox won't restart. I get a constant egg timer. I've rebooted and RTFM'd. Looks like I've got to reinstall Firefox and find all those extensions again - but not this one.
Much better to follow the above advice and use the built-in features in Firefox (thank you WillyWonka). - xst4t1kx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^ what he said.
- chrono13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@nugget
I used Firefox for quite some time, and while I knew about the Page Info/Media panel - I didn't know that it extracted embedded media for quite some time. - OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0teh_old...
- Cassidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, Firefox already does that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tools -> Page Info.
Why is this better? - tonyellard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and here I was, driving home, thinking hey....I should write a small simple app to download files embedded in a web page....
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, another useless firefox extension.
- Pile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most links that are problemmatic spawn javascript pop-up boxes. Can this script ferret out the actual file from the javascript popup? If not, then it's useless.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sites like http://www.heavy.com dont work very well using either method.
- digg - isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was one of the first stories covered in diggnation...so its like uber old
- AtomicTheory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Exactly, VERY old news, no digg
- rohizzle121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how does this work?
- Soave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0'To save embedded objects via Firefox: Tools / Page Info / Media'
Beat me to it. - ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Horrible Extension
This is the kind of extension for lazy people...
And it causes problems when you are only searching for one piece of media on a page when there are thousands...
I personally use adblock to find the embedded stuff
it sticks its little tab there and i just copy the link outa that
but otherwise the view source method and the page info method are just as easy
$digg--;
