- tunapez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Excellent post!
One note, it works w/ ".gov" as well. ;-)

- TheClone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Just so you're aware, it's considered bad form to spam "links" to your website in posts like that. It'll get you dugg down and your account suspended.
Plus, it's not wise to invoke the wrath of angry diggers by linking to your website that lists your PHONE NUMBER. - rusticdog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9And here I was thinking it's the EDU sites that just get exploited.
Google "hardcore porn site:edu" - iandoh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6there's an option in stumbleupon to stumble only .edu sites. a great way to find interesting new stuff i'd probably never encounter otherwise.

- troye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's for the rest of us who don't go to Stanford, MIT, other universities even if you like your state university or college.
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol, even the example code "1114106081982" works!
Thanks for the link. - toolow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Looks like she puts her site in all her spam... er comments.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You had me going until you cited your source.
- Nick519, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1that "SCRATCH" software from MIT is amazing. i'm sending it to a friend with an 6 year old kid right now. gotta get the next generation of programmers on the right track!
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Google Scholar is great too, but it only searches published papers (IIRC), many of which aren't publicly accessible.
With normal Google you can find free papers, lecture notes and occasionally entire books (e.g. http://www.pmillett.com/technical_books_online.htm and http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Aeronautics-and-Astronau ... - missingnoh4x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why would you put a link to your unrelated personal site in every comment? That's stupid and unnecessary.
- phil.busch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow... I can't believe I didn't know about that before. Thanks!
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Which begs the question, who's Larry Allen?
/dugg down - Crazytree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm VERY confused here.
When I looked into a .edu domain, the registrar REQURIED that you be accredited by a regional educational accreditation body.
Is this not the case anymore? - ryanmclaughlin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Sonoma State... finally on the map for something!
- aiten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My friend owns an .edu site he registered before they restricted registration of them.
I wont mention the name, should it suddenly come to the attention of whoever is responsible, but during the big purge of non-academic .edus, they missed his out, hence he still holds it to this day. - shining7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Thanks mklopez. Great art history links there.
- thealliedhacker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ppt also
- dallen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What are you talking about? Larry Allen went to Sonoma State
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1only on a technicality.
- roystgnr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Google Scholar definitely searches more than published papers. I once accidentally found a draft of my own as-yet-unpublished paper, which was up on the web to ease collaboration with the other authors. It seems that Google's "is it Scholarly" algorithm doesn't have any humans in the loop to say "this is filled with margin notes and has unfinished sections, so no", just computers in the loop to say "this was typeset in LaTeX, so yes!"
- SniperXPX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Pwned
- stevedclarke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I really wasn't expecting that much...
- Maggoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"little appreciated outside the world of academia" ... college is inside this world, isn't it?
- aljamiat, on 01/12/2009, -0/+0What a great article, thanks for sharing it. Very useful and interesting.

- 1ceblue, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Thanks m8. great tips btw.
- troye, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I got nothing. I want pics or movies - preferably movies.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4What kind of cave has this writer been living in? These .edu sites are apparently "little appreciated outside the world of academia" and are a "mysterious underground world"? There are close to 18,000,000 students enrolled in a given year in US post-secondary (college) institutions. Even if you aren't in college yourself, then surely you have relatives or friends who have been, and surely you've at least taken a look at a .edu site at one time or another.
- Nickbc87, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4Time to exploit the hell out of this stuff!!!
- Jennyd6, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Love it. Thanks.
- iandoh, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0there's an option in stumbleupon to stumble only .edu websites. i've come across some gems i'd never have otherwise encountered this way.
- gjlutz, on 10/10/2007, -15/+9Very useful
- carolkayu, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0checkout theclassconnection.com. The website helps students:

4. Plan. Stop keeping a calendar, let someone else do it for you.
5. Communicate. Every message automatically organized.
6. Store. Never email yourself files again.
