- GhostWithToast, on 05/24/2008, -2/+31Better explanation of the technology. Thought it was fake at first but it's not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib_g7F6WKAA
- truspect0r, on 05/24/2008, -5/+19Duplicate.
- 3rdDay, on 05/24/2008, -1/+14Beta test available for .avi files:
http://www.aviz.fr/dimp/download.html - burketo, on 05/24/2008, -0/+11this is a really cool piece of technology. one thing i always hate is trying to see something that happens quickly in more detail by using the slider bar... it is really tricky to get the right moments and/or speed. this makes that stuff easy. a really brilliant idea.
- mattbrad2, on 05/24/2008, -2/+10Huh? Of course its the same. The video itself can only go forward or backward. In any of those clips, you could have clicked on any blank space and moved the mouse back and forth and the video would either go forward or backward. Thats all it can do. It can't individually move objects relative to other objects.
- Karmavs, on 05/24/2008, -1/+7When you say "manipulate it on screen." you mean "fast forward & rewind the video", right? I would say that that makes it exactly the same as fast forward & rewind.
- exomni, on 05/24/2008, -21/+26That was stupid. You could do the same thing just by dragging the progress bar on the bottom of the screen...
- robotto, on 05/24/2008, -5/+10Forward and rewind without the buttons...
- Blablah01, on 05/24/2008, -4/+7This is already on the front page, with over 600 diggs...
- S1ngular1ty1, on 05/24/2008, -5/+8No, not really.
- theradical, on 05/24/2008, -2/+5The video is still moving on the same timeline people. The small hand is not manipulating elements of recorded event. Since that is impossible. Remember?
- S1ngular1ty1, on 05/24/2008, -3/+6The software is actually analyzing the video for moving objects. You can then drag the moving objects and even see their motion path on the video.
This is not the same as fast forward and rewind. - ElbertF, on 05/24/2008, -1/+4http://digg.com/programming/Dimp_Lets_You_Move_Obj ...
- Jumpeplowski, on 05/24/2008, -5/+7Um, buried for already being on the front page yesterday.
- Garnan, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2Star Trek and interactive porn = Trekkie head explosion
- Karmavs, on 05/24/2008, -2/+4That's exactly what's going on.
- dn11, on 05/24/2008, -4/+6i'm not entirely sure what is happening here, but it looks like a gimmick
- PatrickBrown, on 05/24/2008, -2/+4The cursor is causing the video to go forward / back based on the object.... not based on left / right of the cursor. This is illustrated in the part of the video with all the moving cars. Notice the cars are moving to the left of the screen as the video progresses, but dragging a car to the right reverses the video.
Thus, this is not simply "drag mouse left, movie reverse. drag mouse right, movie progress" as you seem to imagine. - tomis, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2Or, hit pause and use the scrollwheel.
- DeadHerring, on 05/24/2008, -1/+3Thanks, a much better demonstration.
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/24/2008, -4/+6It seems like that at first, but if you check out the video GhostWithToast posted you can see it has more uses that that as it kind of isolates what you are dragging for better analysis.
- mesasone, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Haha, you said insert.
That's all I got. - franksalvo, on 05/24/2008, -2/+3I have seen the future, and it's awesome.
- shiggstain, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Yippee! You can fwd and rev by click-dragging directly on the image. Who gives a *****.
- daok, on 05/24/2008, -5/+6The final result look that same as moving backward or forward... I really do not see the point... if you could drag the car where you WANT than it would be new...
- mastazed, on 05/24/2008, -4/+5now i can watch the dramatic hamster over and over and over.. etc.
- analogkid, on 06/06/2008, -0/+1Seems similar to the Mythbusters Interactive Video: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/vide ...
- S1ngular1ty1, on 05/24/2008, -4/+5The software is analyzing the video and any moving objects in the video. It thens overlays the motion path for each moving object in the video on the video frames. You can then click on any moving object that has a motion path and manipulate it on screen.
This is not the same as fast forward and rewind. - cizzop, on 05/24/2008, -2/+3Why dont you jerks just download the software and play with it yourself!??
http://aviz.fr/dimp/download.html
DAYMN! - o0JoeCool0o, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1This technology will be awesome for multi-touch screen interfaces
- Schmich, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Cool but useless for normal video browsing. As said in the YT video there could be some uses in applications and such though.
- PatrickBrown, on 05/24/2008, -2/+3No, you are not understanding how it works. Look at this video for a more detailed explanation and demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib_g7F6WKAA
The direction of playback is not arbitrary, but rather defined by a path set by a particular region. View the above video, perhaps it will be more clear to you. - o0JoeCool0o, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Ok I can see how this is new and cool pretty much creating a forward a reverse button that adapts itself to the motion paths of moving objects, so while yes the movie is jsut forward and reversing, the movie is doing so depending on the path it has extracted fro mthe moving objects in the video, so still very cool imo and a great piece of programming u get a cookie.
- Zaggynl, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1To boldly go where no Trekkie has gone before..
yes yes, I am a Trekkie (-8 - davidbond, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2That, sir, is clearly utter, utter genius.
- djphilos, on 06/06/2008, -0/+0Do you like to play with it....yourself?
- inactive, on 05/25/2008, -4/+4Oh god there are people who think this is amazing? A simple fwd and rev ? Buried
- djphilos, on 06/06/2008, -0/+0Video is not being manipulated. The time space continuum is being altered. Its most obvious at 1:24.
- djphilos, on 06/06/2008, -0/+0Cool. Who wins Hilary or Obama?
- djphilos, on 06/06/2008, -0/+0All it looks like is they associated FF and RR with the X and Y axis of a mouse. Nothing is being manipulated.
- xonkonog, on 05/25/2008, -1/+1You obviously dont get it, its making scrubbing footage more interactive by combining motion detection and stabilization for different areas of the clip. watch the demostration video.
- qXdc, on 05/30/2008, -1/+1It's still just fast forwarding a video, just with a white hand in the middle of the video.
- DestroyFascism, on 05/24/2008, -3/+2Cool so I rewind that money shot and keep my finger off the mouse wheel. (BFD)
- MtheoryX, on 05/24/2008, -2/+1We don't exactly know that; I didn't see what would happen if you dragged the mouse in a blank space.
Perhaps it would perform as you explain, or perhaps it really does matter which object or motion path you click on, and which direction you drag the mouse relative to that motion path.
Regardless, this appears certainly not quite as simple as "moving the mouse back and forth." - eliotmat, on 05/24/2008, -2/+1I was thinking the same thing, brutha
- qXdc, on 05/25/2008, -4/+3It's a pointless illusion, it's the same as fast forwarding manually. Not new technology.
- mattbrad2, on 05/24/2008, -5/+3Huh? Of course its the same. The video itself can only go forward or backward. In any of those clips, you could have clicked on any blank space and moved the mouse back and forth and the video would either go forward or backward. Thats all it can do. It can't individually move objects relative to other objects.
- MrFurious2k, on 05/24/2008, -3/+1....and money shot. Again.
