Design and art overlap significantly, but they are not the same, and there is much ground that is not common. Subcategories create new ways of organizing content. You honestly don't think that "art" doesn't bear any distinction from "design"? The goal of good design is to make us as comfortable as possible. The goal of good art is to change us.
