- FriedTurkey, on 01/28/2009, -3/+48I am sure he is going to sell some great ad deals that will be blocked by 90% of the digg audience.
- garionw, on 01/28/2009, -1/+40Here's an idea, why not advertise things relevant to what I digg?
I don't want a credit card, Sharp TV, or Toshiba notebook so I'm not going to be clicking anything - sockpuppets, on 01/28/2009, -2/+23He looks like a ninja.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -7/+28Wow. An executive from Yahoo, a company that may not even be around in a couple years. What a catch!
- Daniel591992, on 01/28/2009, -1/+20He looks just like Kevin Rose!
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+18It's hard to generate ad revenue when your demographic is mostly unemployed, underemployed, or financially defendant teenagers. Plus they use ad-block.
- JasonCox, on 01/28/2009, -1/+14So Digg lays off employees and then hires a high paid exec?
- trotskyist, on 01/28/2009, -2/+12Die in a fire.
Seriously.
Oh, and just for the record, I'm writing this on a Macbook Pro. - G-RaZoR, on 01/28/2009, -1/+10As negative sounding as this comment is, you are 100% correct.
- KSUdesigner, on 01/28/2009, -1/+8I think you are vastly overestimating that percentage. I'd be surprised if more than 30% of the users block ads. Don't think there's any way to know how many for sure, but digg's audience has expanded far beyond the tech-savvy now.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -2/+9You really can't make a generalization like that. A company is failing fast, so every one of its many employees is a failure too? If Yahoo is as bad as you make them out to be, you should be amazed at the fact that this guy could sell their services so well.
- piratearggghhh, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6They gave him the official title of Assistant to the Regional Manager (Kevin Rose)
- ModernChem, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6buried for lack of [no *****] tag
- Barackalypse, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5More interesting to me than this hiring is the quote about how Digg lost an estimated $5 million on $8.5 million in revenue. That is absolutely unfathomable to me and reeks of poor management. If Digg would like, I'll be happy to lend my expertise to have them profitable by the end of the month (assuming their revenue doesn't fall too much). I've saved companies millions of dollars, its suprisingly easy to do, so much of the work that goes on in an organization doesn't directly support revenue generating activities and some of it actively hinders revenues. I'll work for fixed percentage of the money I save them.
- VenDrake, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5Incorrect. This is what a ninja looks like:
http://www.xaraxone.com/FeaturedArt/oct04/assets/i ... - mrroarke, on 01/28/2009, -3/+7Yay, just what everyone needs... another sales guy. Can't wait to see a wall of pop-ups and interstitials while usability goes to hell.
- ..eD, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4What a strange way to start a description of Digg...
After not marrying a super model and not finding gold bars in my attic, I decided to hire a maid. - CDoug03, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4iThink you should iKill yourself. And yes, I am writing this on a Macbook Pro in a Safari browser.
- roxgod666, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3You dugg the entire article for the sole reason of a dude being on the thumbnail?
- brainboy7777, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Michael Scott is going to be so pissed. He even bought a digg t-shirt.
- popsumer, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4In other news, Apple poached Microsoft's janitor.
- CoD4, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3it's people like you that make me want to smash my imac on your face bitch
- GeorgeStone2, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3I almost threw my iPhone out the window just so I would no longer own an Apple product and therefore have nothing in common with you.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Lol. I wanted to bury you but you are too correct for me to do that. You forgot to mention the massive herd-like mentality here though.
- FrostyFire, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3I completely agree.
Their advertising potential is so huge, because they should be able to program what ads you see based on how you digg. After all that's what their business has been doing lately anyway, algorithms to recommend based on your digging history. - sickthoughts, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3You dont poach rhinoceroses, you poach their tusks.
He is the tusk. Yahoo is the rhino. - FrostyFire, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2If it won't be around then it's the perfect time to leave, isn't it?
- FriedTurkey, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2If businesses started using Macs wouldn't they be less cool?
- roxgod666, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2This is where the stereotype comes from...let me rephrase that, you ARE the stereotype.
- orthodoxDrew, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2porn
- Barackalypse, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2Yeah, provided you're still willing to work for beer and donuts.
- saltydawkins, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3And if I see one more Vimax ad I'm going to start kicking random marketing guys in the crotch.
- AlanCayce, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3I agree, I believe 30% is even high. Digg users that love there ad block, just like to be heard how there "sticking it to the man". Digg gets 10's of millions of unique page views a month, a few thousand users with ad block wont hurt..
- Wargasmic, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3Cant wait for the popup ads. I hope they put a few banner ads that play audio too!
- SitPoMk, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2How is that working out for facebook?
^^^ no sarcasm tag, legit question if anybody knows. - KSUdesigner, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2@chappy162: I agree with you on that, but the tech savvy are more inclined to block ads than those who aren't. If digg's audience was primarily the tech savvy I'd be more inclined to believe that 90% figure.
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+2If you hire him, you gotta hire me. Its a deal package. Right Barackalypse?
- ThirdPrize, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2Working selling advertising must be bad at the best of times. Imagine doing it in this climate. Perhaps they could get Gil from the Simpsons.
- farfromhere, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3Poached, wtf is he? A rhinoceros?
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2The only way digg is going to make money is by strategically placing relevant ads in the articles that hit the front page. Sneaky sneaky style. Non-user submitted.
- Dustmuffins, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2He's the head of sales...
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2Gay. Not that there is anything WRONG with that... but a dude ***** you in the ass.
- Stewage, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1Shin Digg
- DieselGrunge, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1I watched rocketboom today and learned that reddit is run by six people.
