- marioneta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You mean only the mediocrity that is upper management would handcuff their brightest and best and force them to use the rubbish tools that they dictate you must have.
Sorry - I spent too many years in IT trying to innovate and getting nowhere - the problem is NOT with the IT dept - but with the upper management "teams" - not to mention the fact they plonk a computer on people's desktops - neglect to train them - and then wonder why they aren't getting "value for money" from their IT spend .... - barcode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'Restrictions are critical for system administrators to impose on regular users. What utter stupidity, are you going to smash their telephones and stick socks in their mouths too to stop them talking? People need to communicate to get their job done.
Also if you RTFA it doesn't say that users should have admin rights anywhere you made that bit up.
You sound exactly the kind of person this article is aimed at. - Portfolioso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This article is trash. I work in IT - speak for yourself. All networks are different. This is just a blogger's rant of how crappy his/her network is.
Restrictions are critical for system administrators to impose on regular users. AIM and messaging is blocked because it is not productive to have your employees chatting on AIM instead of working. Let's give everyone admin rights, and no restrictions, so viruses can spread rampantly, machines can be used as zombies to DOS servers and users can install spyware. This will generate 10,000 more helpdesk calls. The majority of people don't know how to safely use computers and without restrictions, the network will crash. ::rolls eyes:: - spoier, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0You nailed it - as long as they (the executives) have Outlook they will resist any change because it's all they know how to use. MS knows this and use it as leverage to get Windows into corporate IT.
