- Zivko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30How does this effect DRM? There is no Digital Rights Management on songs you put on the iPod unless you purchased them from iTMS. It's a Copyright thing, not DRM.
And even then, it doesn't REMOVE the DRM from iTMS purchased songs.
Handy, but inaccurate. The submitter obviously doesn't know what DRM is. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20check out the guys' stats (they're public - http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&lampoon=avil&s=sm8myblogbyouriel&r=3 )

digg effect in realtime - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26Or, just download the latest version of Winamp . . . which does the same thing (for Windows).
- deathray, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19You cannot force someone to Open Source an application, he spent his own time and its his own wish what he wants to do with it. If that is your point why not force Apple to make iTunes open source.
- somnambulist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Music on your iPod is stored in a hidden directory with obfuscated filenames. (I'm guessing there is a good technical reason for this --- it's probably quicker for the iPod to deal with finding 'F00/AJOZ.m4a' than it is to parse through a human readable directory.) The only tracks with DRM would be anything purchased from the iTunes music store or through Audible. Anything your rip or import is going to come into iTunes as an un-DRM'd AAC or MP3 and get transferred to your iPod as un-DRM'd AAC or MP3.
To 'extract' your music, just drop it back into iTunes or pretty much any other MP3 playing program which can read ID3 tags. - lament, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15"i have thousands of songs on my computer that i ripped from cd's using wmp and its taking weeks to convert them to mp3"
EAC + LAME is your friend.

- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I would recommend YamiPod to others solely on the fact that it is the best tool to download songs from your iPod.
That said, it is slow, breaks every time an iPod is updated to the latest firmware, and the guy who programs this doesn't own an iPod, thus his software is released to beta relatively untested. - utcursch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Blogspam + Duplicate:

- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13WMP 11 is fine as a video player, but it lacks the customizability and filetype support to be a decent music player
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15You can rip to mp3 from WMP can't you? (Sorry I haven't used that crappy piece of software in a LONG time)...
- diggimator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Not only does YamiPod not strip DRM, iTunes lets you copy DRMed files from your iPod to your work PC. http://www.apple.com/itunes/sync/transfer.html The submitter's double wrong.
- evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Purchased only, yes.

2nd. Um. Just... going off your description... Hate to break it to you... if you want to put music you BOUGHT on your work machine, iTunes will reverse sync it for you, if you have it set up right. You don't need this program to do that. See... look.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/sync/transfer.html
3rd. If you need something to take off your Mp3's or non-iTunes music from your iPod, that's another story. Is it me, or does "Yamipod" look like its trading Apples for Apples (Yamipod looks "just like" iTunes, folks)? If you want your iPod browsing integrated into your Windows desktop/explorer window, you should cut to the chase and use AnapodExplorer. Just FYI.
http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/ - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8What a ***** format to rip in, and a ***** player. WMA, and WMP of course.
- BlackSheepx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7...What are you using that takes weeks to rip "ur" CDs?
- ReinMasamuri, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's narrow thinking like yours that makes the headaches of DRM a fact of life.
The ability to backup the songs you PURCHASE is NOT stealing. It's your right to backup the songs your purchase.
Oh, and despite what the RIAA says, every person who purchases songs is NOT a potential thief. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6There are lots of other (free) alternatives to this program... Just use something else instead.
- MLyzz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Yeah this is REAL new news. There are tons of apps that do this.
Im not crapping on this digg but REALLY?? just try a google search for this kids.
On the other hand, I AM really glad that people know another way to steal music, it makes me feel good. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6or you could just buy an MP3 player that will let you use it how you want, and let your wallet be $200 thicker
- genrik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Too bad "DRM" still applies to music purchased through iTunes, lame.
- krunk4ever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This has nothing to do with DRM. All your songs are located inside a hidden folder which you can easily see if you enable viewing of hidden folder and files. They even have the exact same filename as your original computer.
If you want to remove the DRM from songs you purchased from iTunes, try QTFairUse, - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the flip side... its Quicktime Alternative for me.
Having to pay just to get full screen video is a frak'n insult. - NeoTSN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You don't need an app to get your songs from the iPod. Plug in your iPod, let's say it becomes drive "F" on Windows ...Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Show Hidden Files and Folders....navigate to F:/iPod_Control/Music (I can't use backslash here) ....note the F## folders. Your music is stored in there, in .mp3 or whatever extension your original song was.
- Trizzle74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this is old.
- Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'll take my MPC any day over WMP 11 (and I have both btw). And thumbs up for EAC reference. Best ripper. Ever.
- TomRemixed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most other mp3 players can do that without software.
- gogog0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sharepod is 20x better, ive been using it for years.
http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePod - Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>>Is this the way to back up my ipod?
Just make a copy of the entire thing. It's a USB removable drive. Be sure to turn on "show hidden files" though. - BIGmog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The filenames are all cryptic though. You'll need an app to rename them from the ID3 tags.
- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would I want to get rid of iTunes?
- DuFace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Why did you digg him down? Everything he said is true. You can get the music off your iPod in the hidden folder and then let itunes rename it based in the tags.

There is no iPod that is "not compatible with iTunes 7". More likley what he really wants to do is keep using Hymn to striip DRM from AAC files, which is fine - but he really shouldn't lie as to the reasons behind his actions.
- BadassCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why not enable disk use on your iPod, then search it with explorer for "*.mp3" (or other file types) then ctrl+a. then copy and paste them?
- RickyBennett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why not just unhide the folder that the music is in on the ipod and drag and drop to the computer
- 35263526, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are you sure? Admittedly you're probably talking about the 2nd Gen, Nano and I've only got a 1st, but for every iPod I've ever used the music has always been on the FAT partition in a hidden folder. Programs like this may well be useful if they rename the files themselves, but ultimately for me and probably many other people, the name stored in the tag data is all that's necessary.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Crazybrit, I can not fathom this either. I can understand that not everyone likes it and would rather use a different media player. I just don't understand the fanboyism for other players and the absolute hatred towards any other media player but the one they like. From my perspective, having someone poo poo iTunes and praise what looks to me a very basic clone of iTunes doesn't make it look or sound any better to me. Granted Yamipod does have many features that iTunes doesn't, but there's plenty of great software out there that make up for those features that iTunes is lacking.
- frickindeal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1replied to the wrong post...oops
- JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is there an app that can create a detailed list of all music on your iPod (eg say create an Excel spreadsheet that features title, album, genre etc.)?
- frickindeal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love sharepod too. It's simple, complete and runs from the iPod itself, meaning you don't have to have anything installed on the host computer to use it. If you've got an iPod cable, you can transfer your (non-DRM'd) songs to any computer with Artist/Album/Title naming intact.
However, read the news on his site:
"Some bad news today - SharePod's editing functionality (add/remove songs from iPod) is not supported anymore, and should be considered as 'use at your own risk'."
"The reason I can no longer support the edit functionality is basically time and effort! It has become almost impossible for me to
1. Support new iPod features (photos/videos anyone?!) without buying a new iPod every few months
2. Find the time to reverse engineer each little change Apple makes to the iPod database to ensure sharepod doesnt corrupt it
So, if you want to use iTunes with your iPod, I have to recommend not to use SharePod's add/remove feature"
That's from the author of sharepod, and it scared me enough to stop using it. - utch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or just ONLY USE your ITUNES and still rename your songs correctly from the mp3 tags - http://www.mp3buzz.net/index.php/2006/06/27/how-to-get-songs-off-your-ipod-w-itunes/
- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beautiful maybe, but it still sucks in functionality.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What does Webtech's comment saying "bye bye stupid DRM rules" mean? Granted Yamipod likely can copy music you bought from iTunes, but he makes it sound like Yamipod strips the DRM in the process. If Yamipod doesn't actually strip the DRM from your purchased music, than his comment is pointless and misleading.
- rajaal1977, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Attn: Mac Users
Bar none, hands down the indisputable choice for freeware iPod disk management is "iPoddisk" (http://ipoddisk.ourbiti.com/). I loaded "Yamipod," was asked what gen ipod I owned, received numerous script errors and finally I zapped it with Appzapper. With ipoddisk, it took me about 10 sec. from launch to dragging and dropping in no time. - dvdipodbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More iPod Transfer software for copy music songs from iPod to PC

http://www.dvdtozuneconverter.net/iphone-to-computer.htm - Snarfy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had an iPod mini, back when iTunes was at version 6. You did not need iTunes to use it. You could simply copy files to the iPod from windows explorer.
I recently received an iPod Nano for Christmas. iTunes is now at version 7, and low and behold, I cannot even copy music to the iPod anymore. Apparently all music is stored on a separate partition these days. You HAVE to use iTunes (or an app like the one in this article) if you want to use your iPod. Also, it would frequently lock up completely when I would hit shuffle songs. You could not even turn the thing off when it was locked up, even the secret key combinations would not turn it off. Plugging it in to a PC is the only thing that would bring it out of that frozen state as it would say "connected to PC; do not disconnect" or something like that. If you weren't around a PC, or didn't have the cable, you were screwed until you were around one.
I found an easy fix. I took the iPod back to the store and got a SanDisk Sansa. Same price, twice the features, non of the broken issues. When the rechargeable batteries in your iPod eventually die and need replaced, you have to send it back to Apple. There is no way to change the battery. How lame is that? You can change the rechargeable batteries in the Sansa.
It's just like Apple. They'll make something really really cool, then totally screw it up because of a couple poorly designed primary features, like the soft-power button. I thought Macs might be cool until I had to eject a CD. Can somebody explain to me how throwing something in the trashcan is analogous to ejecting it from the computer? A little guy in an fighter plane with a big ***** 'eject' button would have been more intuitive.
The only compelling thing about the iPod is the iTunes music store, and even then I would rather go to the artist's website and buy the CD directly than to buy it through iTunes. You usually can. -
