- ZephyrNorthWest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Azureus is great and all (it's what I use) but it's just Java heavy. It runs really slow on older machines.
- SpringBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For all the people complaining that the article "doesn't have foo" ... this is a Wikipedia article - change it yourselves!
- brett.evans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Azureus ROCKS!!!!!
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another kudos to Azureus here. Can't beat the plugins, interface, Kademlia, SafePeer, open source, and awesome dev team. I mean, if you've ever tracked their development log, it's a wonder that they even sleep. Those guys are the best! ^_^ I'm really digging their new Vivaldi technology. It has promise.
- BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL at the fact that under "malware-free", it says no for BitLord.
- iSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Proof of how great Azureus is!
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pretty much just keep using Azureus then. It's the client I use, especially since it's cross platform.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2one thing i like about azureus is that it brings the unorganized world of bittorrent into something more cohesive. For example, sometimes I will download a torrent from a tracker with no seeders. Azureus can find another tracker with the same file with more users and combine them (at least I think thats what it does). That and azureus has the most features. It was the first clent that allowed me to cap the upload speed. Considering the fact that a lot of poeple run on cable internet, this should have been implemented in clients a lot earlier.
I hate the java, but my new computer runs it fine. Before I upgraded it ate up a lot of resources. - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With 25 and more Bit Torrent Clients out there on the net. The Evil MPAAs and RIAAs of the Worlds will have to learned to live with BT. This technology is not going away any time soon.
Azureus beats them all, with its plug in feature and open source. - Qopax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow, now that's a pretty pointless page... most of the features people care about in bittorrent clients aren't even listed, such as person pointed out, rss, resource-intensive or not, load times, torrent management, plugins, etc..
- SpringBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I run Azureus on a Celeron 400MHz with 192MB RAM and it's only a tad slow. Although I'm running a stripped down version of Linux so that might help.
- TechnoRabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is awesome! I was getting crappy speeds from Azureus because I'm behind a NAT router because my ISP is a jackass. I got BitComet because of this list and now I'm getting awesome speeds.
- phidong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate java, but I've been happy with Azureus and it does the job, so..
- mycatsboots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't dislike Azureus nesecarily, but I do dislike java.
- bedheadben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1azuereus is what i have always used
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a big azureus fan apart from its resource usage and Ive shifted well over 100GB both directions using it.
But from this list it seems bitspirit has all th features I use in azureus plus its not java so it doesnt whore much system resources. I'm def gonna try it out. - bitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Java 5.0 aka 1.5 is and has been availible for winxp and other platforms for a good long while now.
And yes it is so much faster and better than older versions, I tend to agree those versions suck!!!!
Most people base their judgements about java on old outdated sucky versions.
If they are going to do that, then isn't it fare to say that all macs suck, based on a mac say 10 years old (btw they really sucked back then). - iOsiris, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1When you have 1GB ram and 1.6Ghz+, theres nothing holding me back from using Azureus.
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe Azureus is indeed the best. Best interface, and it's the best way to manage your torrents. The other clients mostly just handle a torrent at a time, where as Azureus behaves more like a classic P2P client.
However it really bogs down my connection to the net even when it's not fully using my up/down bandwidth. It does tend to choke up the number of simultaneous connections I can have at one time, which effects my entire local network for any new connections I wish to make on the net.
It would also be nice if Azureus wasn't Java based, and was coded in a more native language for whatever OS you use. Also ALWAYS USE Sun's JAVA!!! - DiggerT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you ppl who find java slow upgrade to java 5.0, most pc's are are still on java 1.4, the speed improvements are amazing, so now java is faster and lighter!
- DiggerT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FRAGaLOT
java 5.0 is the offical java made by SUN you can get it form www.java.com and yes its available for windows xp, just head over to java.com and click download now, it should take you and give u instuctions on how to install it.
you'll want the file called "jre-1_5_0_05-windows-i586-p.exe"
heres a direct download if you want to save sometime to the latest java update!
ftp://anonymous@213.180.9.138/pub/win32/System%20Tools/Sun%20Java/jre-1%5F5%5F0%5F05-windows-i586-p.exe - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe I missed it, but I'm suprised no one is using ABC. Written in Python... it's fast... never crashes... doesn't hog memory like Azureus.
i hear ya. but uTorrent owns em all - fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Bitloard Malware should be changed back to yes. Taken from the BitLord Wiki: "BitLord is a outdated repackaged BitComet client, which adds two new buttons to the toolbar for linking to pornography and gambling sites." The adware is enough to justify malware and to the BitLord users get a clue and use BitComet since BitLord is just a repackage of old BitComet code licenses to make money off ads. Just because some torrent sites recommend it doesn't mean it's good it means they are being paid to promote it.
- mattschl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I suggest anyone that uses Azureus to compare download times with another BT client. I have had download speeds increase with other BT clients by a lot. I just wish that these faster clients had Azureuses features.
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perhaps it is doing that because you are trying to set the upload speed too low compared to the download speed.
- FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DiggerT
Is Java 5.0 available from Sun Microsystems, or is it made by someone else? And is it even available for WinXP? If you're gonna talk about it, at least give a link to it. - linuxbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use Azureus but I hate Java so i'll be moving to ktorrent soon.
- .Steven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Azureus is the best!
- CountZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using ABC. I ran into problems when the latest version of Azereus came out, where basically, when I tried to start a new torrent downloading, Azareus crashed.
Every. Single. Time. ABC, on the other hand, has been working fine for me. - screwzluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've personally been using G3 Torrent for a while. The only feature I wish G3 Torrent had was a built in tracker and such...
- eventide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, I've heard rumours that the "official" BitTorrent version 4 adds support for "single port" which allows one to seed multiple files from a single tcp port. This is ideal for a traditional "server" offering many files for download via BitTorrent, and something I've long looked forward to.
Of course, the table leaves it out (or includes it in a way I don't understand...)
Can anyone enlighten me? Which (open source, linux) clients support this? Thanks. - dhoefler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe I missed it, but I'm suprised no one is using ABC. Written in Python... it's fast... never crashes... doesn't hog memory like Azureus.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's true that java sucks, but Azureus rocks!
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0azureus when i care to look at something pretty. otherwise im all about btdownloadheadless.py - leave that sucker open in a screen session and your set.
- greenbriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I'm using Azureus (on OS X) too, but it makes my Usenet downloads (using Unison) slow to a crawl. Might just be the nature of having so many connections going at once, but I'm in the market for something else. I agree with dmron that there could have been some more info, but this at least points me in the right direction, so thanks for a good digg!
- zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is a small footprint on Transmission, PumpkinEscobar.
http://www.freesmug.org/newsitems/news244 - shakefu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Azureus, but agree -- the java sux -- So I want opensource, DHT capable, nat traversal, bandwidth throttling, no spyware/malware and any other bells/whistles, would be a plus. Bitcomet seems nice, but it's not opensource, and G3 doesn't support DHT ??
- Sirak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I prefer Azureus BECAUSE it's programmed in Java :p Java rocks (I'm a Java programmer, so yea...)
If I'm only grabbing a quick torrent that I don't really need to seed (Something less than 100MB I suppose) then I'll use BitTorrent :) - awfulshot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dhoefler- im a big fan of ABC, i used to love the azureus like all these ppls, but i switched because of the memory problems.
- Shish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> You, for some reason have a version of java that runs
> awesomely on your crap computer(1ghz, 512mb ram)
I run it fine on 500MHz / 128MB / win98 / Java 1.5... - PumpkinEscobar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use two older Macs, so Bittorrent and Azureus are my only real choices. BT is faster, so I use it with single or smaller files, but use Azureus with bigger files so that I can selectively download the files that I want within, or start at the beginning so that I don't have to wait for large, gigabyte plus size file to completely download.
Any native Mac clients that are recommended? - dmron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty much a totally worthless comparison. There's 11 categories of comparison, with things like open source, mac, windows, linux, NAT, DHT etc.... It's like, whoopee. Comparison of FEATURES would be a lot more interesting. The only feature that's mentioned is superseeding which is something that affects almost no one. :P
- baaron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you use Azureus, please seed your downloads..im tired of having files sitting there at 96%...there should be a rule against that..and it does slow my pretty recent machine down considerably.
- teknotant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Azureus all the way, it is on my windowz box and my linux box.
- snapcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is pretty cool.
- djnick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i switched from azureus to bitcomet. az was slowing down my system and hogging alot of bandwith. bc seems faster, more stable and all in all i like it more
- libnani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0in my opinion you cannot judge on which is the best bittorent client without knowing the conditions. for example if someone is a plays games while downloading Azureus is not a good choice. If your behind a firewall or router you'll need to know how to forward a port, if this sounds all too complicated then utorrnet isn't for you, the one with least memory usage that i know of is Arctic torrent(very basic) i dont really like it though. For a full list of features of practically all bittorrent clients in a tabular form goto http://www.answers.com/topic/comparison-of-bittorrent-software
I got used to bitcomet but some trackers dont allow it, like www.bitsoup.org, so im looking for change. currently trying bitspirit, It is based on bitcomet, memory usage 18,000K which is good. As I recall bitcomet takes around 60,000K. Bitspirits gui is very nice, but not sure about download speeds. Just check out the site and see which is most suitable for you. - beeboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm very happy with the performance of Azureus on my old Athlon 850 with 256 RAM.
It's running under Linux though, I'm not sure how snappy it would all feel with the same spec on Windows. - Rhipf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OT
I am using Azureus and having trouble with it not saving my global max upload setting. It resets to zero every time I download a torrent. Are there any other clients that will allow me to set global upload limit and schedule the downloads (my ISP doesn't count my downloads between 11pm and 7am against my monthly quota). Currently I can schedule with Azureus using the Speed Scheduler plug in. - fourcorners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is a edit comment feature ever coming to Digg? I could really use it..
Bitlord malware-free should be set back to no i meant to say and "licenses" should be licensed. -
