- ccpearce5, on 11/02/2009, -9/+55Thank God.
- jdames1980, on 11/03/2009, -4/+50It disturbs me that IE usage is still as high as it is.
- Jektal, on 11/03/2009, -1/+36IE7 has its fair share of problems too...
- silver26, on 11/03/2009, -9/+40Internet Explorer isn't the problem, IE6 is.
- stubear, on 11/03/2009, -0/+27Luckily that will be IE8 usage, not IE6.
- IphtashuFitz, on 11/03/2009, -0/+27Especially IE6...
- zip000, on 11/03/2009, -0/+21I was showing one of my coworkers how to do something on her computer yesterday, and noticed that she had, like, 8 different instances of IE7 open. I started to explain the whole "tab" concept to her, but then realized that I had just had to explain how to copy and paste to her a few minutes before and just let it go.
...and this is a "professional" I'm talking about, not some entry level position. - skelooth, on 11/03/2009, -6/+27An open source spyware? Really? How dare they hide spyware under the guise of highly optimized rendering and javascript execution! /s
- theonlywizdum, on 11/03/2009, -1/+21Or they could just find a development team that cares about web standards.
- miket, on 11/03/2009, -1/+15Have you, thesabre? barely scores a 20/100 on the acid3 test, and other browsers have trouble rendering sites because of its hacks.
- zip000, on 11/03/2009, -1/+14I keep having hopes that new versions of IE will improve things, but even when IE says it follows standards, it doesn't.
- Princeamor, on 11/03/2009, -1/+14Firefox is faster on Windows 7
- rb1248, on 11/03/2009, -2/+15IE8's support for CSS3 still sucks compared to other browsers' latest releases...
- Krechet, on 11/03/2009, -0/+12Or they could use the WebKit or Gecko engine and sell that as IE. This is the best of both world: we get a better platform for web development, and MS gets to market their own browser that's cheaper to develop.
- bilbravo, on 11/03/2009, -1/+13You know this doesn't surprise me much. I bought a new laptop and it had Chrome pre-installed. That sort of thing will get usage up as well. I was pleasantly surprised.
- Corinthos, on 11/03/2009, -1/+12My work ATT wireless is still using IE 6. Its quite annoying because it would make my job a lot easier if they had a browser that supported tabs instead of having 8 windows open..
- Tommmmmm, on 11/03/2009, -2/+13IE7 also ignores web standards.
- inigomntoya, on 11/03/2009, -0/+10You are correct when looking at only two consecutive months. But, over the past year, IE has been on the decline, making a 1% dip quite significant -
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-sha ... - inigomntoya, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9I think Netscape was sucked into "Other" and Opera Mini emerged from "Other"
On that note - I am willing to bet we will see usage of Opera Mini grow very quickly over the next few years as more and more people see the advantages of having the internet on their cell phones. - drGt1987, on 11/02/2009, -5/+14Microsoft could consider to do something with IE like they done with Live (Bing)...
They should create absolutely new team of developers to work on new version of their browser and they should give it some cool name. - Solkre, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9I know you're being stupid on purpose, but if you really wanted to.
http://www.virtualbox.org/ - gamepr0, on 11/03/2009, -1/+9yes, no.
- spokenrope, on 11/03/2009, -4/+12Though these numbers are of course moving in the right direction, I'm always amazed at how many people still use IE.
Hopefully there's some sort of tipping point coming up in this browser war. - silver26, on 11/03/2009, -0/+8True, but IE6 is the bigger headache.
- boredco, on 11/03/2009, -2/+9Got to say that I was always bemused why Firefox was considered so much better than IE7/8 by the geeks, but Chrome I love: a nice clean UI, and noticeably faster than anything else on my webmail.
- Jektal, on 11/03/2009, -2/+9*FSM
- seltaeb4, on 11/03/2009, -4/+10The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck will be the day they announce the Microsoft Vacuum Cleaner.
- Jektal, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7Or they should become a bit more lean and adopt an open-source browser.
- TimtheTaxMan, on 11/03/2009, -8/+14This is why I don’t use it. Fundamentally, Google is a giant data mining company. They have their fingers in too much already for my comfort level.
- BrBybee, on 11/03/2009, -3/+9Thats OSX for ya.
- Giac, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7I cant believe more people use safari than chrome
- gumballer, on 11/03/2009, -7/+13IE is the Nickelback of browsers.
- MWeather, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6"Have you used IE8, wizdum?"
Have you developed web sites for it? - silver26, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6blasphemy
- inigomntoya, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7Because you touch yourself at night.
And you have yet to go blind. That's why.
Heathen... (eye roll) - PhillAholic, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5why? Every Mac has it by default and it doesn't get bad press like IE does for user's to switch. Judging by the lack of a second Safari on the list that probably includes the iPhone as well.
- silver26, on 11/03/2009, -2/+7Wow, thanks! Didn't realize that before. So IE6 is actually Internet Explorer as well? Wow. Now it all makes sense.
- saikyan, on 11/03/2009, -2/+7The first thing I did after I installed Windows 7... was check for updates/drivers.... BUT the second thing I did was download Firefox.
- urbanetruth, on 11/03/2009, -1/+6Might IE's 1% drop be within the survey's margin of error? Chrome and Firefox might want to hold off on the champagne just yet.
- DanielPhermous, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5Aye.
- abbathdoom, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4The interesting thing that no one mentions is as soon as people switch from IE they are most likely going to switch away from using Bing as the other browsers all use Google. If I was Microsoft I'd be doing everything possible to stop people switching from IE, and if that involves using an open source renderer, then that a small price to pay for keeping billions of people using Bing.
- ApeInago, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php <- enough people that things like this have been made.
- FutureGuy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4IE8 on Win 7 is actually pretty damn good. What it lacks is addons.
@Aliwalla, yup its a media buyout, just like they did for Vista, no wait.. - sHockz, on 11/03/2009, -5/+9i personally like chrome....it starts extremely fast, no matter how many tabs it has to load.
i detest starting firefox.....i always start chrome first so i can surf while i wait for firefox to revive itself.
dont really like IE, but i will give it a chance when i upgrade to win7 to see if the improvements are satisfactory - Runningflame570, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4stubear: So?
- Chakat, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4That version was discontinued several years ago. Apple released Safari and MS shortly thereafter stopped all development.
- Solkre, on 11/03/2009, -5/+8With everyone having excellent experiences with Win7, IE total use might creep up a little.
- FutureGuy, on 11/03/2009, -2/+5@skelooth, unfortunately there is nothing open about how Google collects, indexes, stores and uses every bit of information it gets about what you do (using chrome or otherwise). In fact Google (google search, analytics, adsense, maps, picasa, gmail etc etc) has so much data about everything a person does it might even be able to predict when the next 10 years of their lives.
- betobonix, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4Agreed
- saikyan, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3Safari has also had a seven year head start in development. So, really, Safari should be further ahead. But it isn't because it's full of fail.
