Browser speed tests, Opera 9.5 Alpha included

  • amadeusdemarzi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8also bear in mind tim, opera has built a core that is run on various different platforms, including mobile devices. Having the core optimized as much as possible is REALLY important when you go small form factor.

    * Includes Opera
    * Includes Safari
    * Wasn't conducted by a browser maker that optimizes for a benchmark by breaking the onload event

    Although some of the Javascript benchmarks are unrealistic of real-world code (especially the raytracer test - I ran this one myself in Opera 9.5 and the latest Webkit nightly, and they were about the same speed until the last pass), I think that these benchmarks do clearly demonstrate that Safari is not the fastest browser on Earth, and Opera is probably at least a little faster overall ;-).

  • davidbloom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yes, you definatley can - especially when you factor in RAM usage. When I use Firefox, most of the time I spend waiting is during disk thrashing. Not a problem in Opera.

  • fearphage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I can't say I notice a difference. What was slower before? The design got better but I haven't noticed any performance changes otherwise. Besides rendering and being usable more quickly, what has improved?
