- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have been using this for about a month now. My phone is with Sprint and is a Samsung A700, great phone, great program to use with it (beats the hell out of the built in browser). Get the Mini Browser, and then Google Maps on your phone http://www.google.com/glm/ .. and show those stupid people with that stupid Black Eyed Peas Hump song as a ringer, what a phone can really do.
- worbd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@arniegrape:
Opera *can* run on almost any phone. Especially just about all modern phones, unless your operator has crippled it of course. But the phone will run Opera in other parts of the world. - elfguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Opera Mini is a JAVA application, which means it runs on any phone that supports JAVA. This is basically 80% of the phones out there. If you have a BREW phone then no it will not work, it doesn't have anything to do with the network you're on, it has to do with your phone.
Once you get it to work, you need to make sure you have a DATA PLAN, that is an option to browse web sites on your phone. Be aware that most data plans are not unlimitted and every page download will cost you.
http://www.cellwatch.ca - hordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1BTW, I have the $5.99 unlimited T-Mobile internet service, and it works just fine.
- Pharoah6905, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1-old
This has been available since the begining of december - MrMysterious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hit the * key to browse full screen.
Also, tweak the options. If you have good eyes you can make the font tiny, which is great because large fonts suck since you are constantly hitting down.
I'm impressed to say the least...Unlimited internet baby! - weissed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally! I've been anxious to try it since it got released only in Norway some time ago.
I am so impressed! I have a Nokia 3230 (which isn't exactly a smart phone), and it works like a charm on my device! - howie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Availability: "Opera Mini is available free of charge via WAP download, or for a small fee via SMS."
Press release:
http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2006/01/24/ - ramunas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woo hoo, we can use it worldwide. :D
- chall5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works well, if you can't make it work try here :-
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=114252 - Arve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1archer: Believe me - Opera Mini is The Killer Application on low-end cellphones
- dan1el, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ive got Opera Mini for a while now and its absolutely amazing. Best program I have on my cell. I usually check train times and Gmail.
- borderpatrol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Downloading right now. I can't believe it is free! Nothing is free (of any quality) for cell phones.
have you tried www.zedge.net? - Eaglefire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"T-Mobile Internet plan is required. (Opera Mini does currently not work with T-MobileWeb)"
Beg to differ. I have the $6/mo T-MobileWeb and Opera Mini works just fine on my Nokia 3220. - sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been running this program for a few months on my Moto V635 with T-Mobile Web ($5.99 a month). It took just a bit of tweaking, you need to set a certain port to 8080. And as far as I know, no program like this (Opera, Google Local Mobile) will run on a Samsung, though. So if your with T-Mobile you have to have a Moto or a Nokia.
- tonicboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have been using this on my Treo 650 and I have to say, I am quite disappointed. Perhaps because it is a Java app rather than a native Palm 5 app, it is much slower than Blazer, the built-in browser. For instance, it takes 4 seconds from when I enter a new URL and hit OK to when it actually starts processing. The downloading and rendering is not any faster than Blazer and in fact, from my limited tests, is about 10-30% slower. Additionally, again probably because it is not a native Palm app, it rejects many Palm UI conventions which make it harder to use. For example, when in the Enter Address screen, you can't even use Palm's menu to paste in text from another app!! Also, instead of using the Palm standard menu for options (which is shown only on demand), you have to use that annoying menu button, and if you like to browse in Fullscreen (and who doesn't), it takes a keystroke and stylus touch to access the menu. Yup, that's right, we Treo users don't have soft buttons so we actually have to pull out the old stylus (or pinky finger) to access the damn menu. Additionally, it does not shrink content as well as Blazer, so the layout of many non-WAP optimized pages is not as good.
Bottom line, this browser may be fine for those of you starving for apps in cellphone/J2ME land, but it is a pretty poor showing for Treo users. - Arve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1joemc72: Try the Access Point setup at http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/docs/connect/ and see if that is any help
- xyzzyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been using it for a month on Cingular PayGo on a Nokia 6102. Works nicer than the built in browser.
Plus if I don't make a voice call that day (Only do once or twice a month anyways), I only pay 1cent per kilobyte off my balance, and no $1 daily access charge. :) - eleven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah works so much better than my built in browser on my SE K600i. I have been using it for a month or so now, and combined with Gmail Mobile it is a lifesaver.
- zinu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"what might I break".
Nothing, but the browser might not work. - jaxroam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"lame. No support for Asia... and Canada!" There is no SMS number to send to in Canada (and many other countries), but that does not mean Opera Mini isn't supported there. As the page says you can use the download wizard instead:
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/operamini/sms/ - lunkwill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About the i860: Opera Mini checks how mush free heap memory you have during startup, which triggers the behaviour on that and some other of the great iDen phones (great JVM on those btw). Opera Mini is not actually closed, just suspended. Just press OK to resume it (or something like that).
About the Treo650 rebooting: As you are probably aware Opera Mini is an J2ME MIDlet, and thus runs in a sandbox enviorment. It is impossible for Opera Mini to crasch a phone that does not have bugs in their JVM implementation, so blame IBM in this case. It is however all to common for phones to have buggy JVM:s, which most often can't be updated, so Opera Mini has a lot of phone specific workarounds. We have however not been able to track down this specific bug in the IBM J9 JVM yet, sorry about that.
About support for Canada and Asia, as jaxroam said, visit the download wizzard or simply point your phones wap-browser to mini.opera.com...
This is a global release, we do not have any IP-blocking on the downloads or similar. - jspath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wanting Opera Mini to support a site like Meebo.com is asking alot from a browser that comes in a 96KB download... :)
My biggest complaint is not being able to download... - visarya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0did anyone got it working on hutch delhi prepaid ... i tried it some time back and also tried the new version on my sony w800i but dont seem to work
- MobiSoft, on 07/19/2008, -0/+0Here both opera mobile 8.5 and opera mini latest verisions available just download, install to phone and enjoy its new features.
http://www.allmobisoft.blogspot.com - jonknee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Opera Mobile so I have been waiting for Mini to launch in the US. Works like a champ.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got it working on my S710a. Seems that all I had to do was reboot the phone (something I havn't done in a long time). Ironicly, now Google Local Mobile also works! ^_^
So far, it's not bad. Only complaints are:
Can't view Flash dependant sites (ex: nintendo.com)
Can't use meebo.com for IM (says it doesn't work with the browser right now)
Can login to my school's email Exchange server, but I can't view any of the messages (says the connection is not secure).
Other than that, not bad at all! - marreka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lame. No support for Asia... and Canada!
- feanor512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> Installed on my Nokia 6600 but it won't load :(
Opera Mini is for non-smartphones. Try either of these
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/
http://www.access-netfront.com/ - hordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It came free with my Nokia 6680... and I'm not in Euro!
- tashafa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0T-mobile - $5.99 , k750i, works like magic...dont forget google local mobile.. now i wish they implemented the JSR-175 to download videos, images, and audio. Once this has been implemented.. its all over. need to get an edge phone though $$$ :(
- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Opera.
+digg - Zuhaib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No Digg,
Yeah very stable, execpt for the fact it makes my Treo 650 crash.. Yeah most people will try to blame the phone but the fact Palms Built in WEP does not cause any problem what so ever. Just Opera, Bleh. - hofferfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does any one else have good free apps for moto phones
- REpler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AWESOME
I love it. DUGG - newdigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why does it seem like these things NEVER work with the phone you have.. i have a Motorola E815 that i got like a month ago.. and its not compatible... wtf
- mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm checking it out now. It's ok. The seperate window to enter text sucks. But speed wise it seems much better than mobile IE. Definately cool for a free product.
- procyon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg.
I love it. - dexharris, on 03/18/2009, -0/+0Yeah, Opera Mini rules! Beat this, IE!

http://all-about-mobile-phones.info/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's telling me I have no working network connection (Error: 3.200.10:80/). But yet I can browse using the phone's built-in browser no problem. I'm using a Sanyo MM-7400. The app itself looks nice, if only it'd "just work"... :(
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm, can't seem to get it to connect using my Sony Ericsson s710a. I'm using Cingular, and have the unlimited data plan.
Hmm . . . . - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't render maps from traffic.tann.net on my Treo 650. This is actually the ONLY reason I have a browser-capable phone is so I can route myself around the rough spots on LA's freeway system.
- lwdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0T-Mobile guy tells me I need the 29.99 T-Zones II plan. I asked him if that was anything like T-Mobile Internet. Oh, yeah his says. 29.99.
And I need an external HTML.
The guys and I jerked this poor loser around for a good 15 minutes. Any idea what he was trying to tell me?
I'm going to try the TMobileWeb in the mean time. (thx EagleFire) - JoeyGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using opera mini on my Sprint: sanyo mm8300 since Oct. and LOVE IT!!!
- PercyKittenz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, this is a lot nicer looking than the standard WAP browser that comes with my phone. I don't often use the browser on it, but it can be a lifesaver in some situations. Especially when Geocaching.
- mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works awesome on my old nokia 6800. I LOVE it.
- joenp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tyrkiskpeber: Yes, it uses Opera's servers. But they are not actually located in Norway :-)
- tyrkiskpeber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does it use Opera's server in Norway or ....?
- CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone in canada get it to work on TELUS?
can't download it. also LG 6100 family not listed.
many curses - LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now, if only I had a cellphone...
