- stealth45, on 11/18/2007, -12/+268Christ, 10 years for Episode 3? I wonder what the penalty would be for sharing a GOOD movie.
- TehSwat, on 11/18/2007, -3/+223Sad how uploaders get insane fines and jail time, when drunk drivers who kill people get a few years.
- FireAtWill, on 11/18/2007, -6/+200I would really, really like to thank those that go to such great risks to upload the torrents that I have enjoyed so much over the years.
- Scabdates, on 11/18/2007, -2/+87This is why they don't host torrent sites in the United States anymore...
- zachblume, on 11/18/2007, -1/+77Warning: truth is above.
- SpykerSpeed, on 11/18/2007, -1/+70...and if I go to the nearest Target and steal Episode 3 from a shelf, do I get my hand cut off?
- ren1999, on 11/18/2007, -3/+69Copyright infringement is tort law and should never involve jail time. The justice system is horribly flawed. 10 years for Star Wars III is ridiculous. If things don't change soon, there will be a bigger change coming soon.
- banmaster, on 11/18/2007, -4/+68Or how you get locked up longer for using pot, than if you kill someone in a pre-meditated way!
- Technoloki, on 11/18/2007, -2/+59Wow. Upload a boring movie to the net and your punishment is more harsh than if you molested a kid. That's just . . . wow.
- perkoff, on 11/18/2007, -5/+62The FBI is going to track you down and put you in jail for downloading a movie. They really need to spend time on this instead of other things, this is the most important thing they can do.
- Snakedal337, on 11/18/2007, -4/+52What a bunch of *****, 10 years for sharing media? ***** that, why haven't we burned the DMCA to the ground yet.
- spiralspirit, on 11/18/2007, -3/+48I think the ridiculous thing is the relative sentences for copyright infringement vs murder, rape, etc etc.
- houndeyex, on 11/18/2007, -1/+46Pfff... at least drunk drivers don't cut into corporate profit! Damn those file sharers!
- itseffinkasey, on 11/18/2007, -4/+38You are 100% correct, because they are getting paid off by huge corporations and thats what the corporations are worried about.
- MalDON, on 11/18/2007, -4/+37There is a major difference between piracy and defrauding the entire country and creating an illegal war.
- kindrobot, on 11/18/2007, -2/+31Ten years seems about right. I mean, didn't someone die or get injured from this? Didn't George Lucas lose all his money or something? Who will think of the children? That movie didn't make any money, did it? Because of this guy. Right?
- NikoKun, on 11/18/2007, -3/+32This is what happens when you let businesses define right and wrong, and law... At this rate, one day it will be illegal and a jailable offense to simply not purchase "required" products... To simply live without these products will cause our "freedom" to be forfeit. -_-
Yeah... It's an extreme... but you never know... - xboxfiend, on 11/18/2007, -2/+30Wow,10 years in prison for uploading a ***** movie. Meanwhile, drunk driving and cocaine possession will only get you 84 minutes. I love my country but sometimes I'm embarrassed to even be here.
- NikoKun, on 11/18/2007, -5/+29-_- yeah... clearly someone who uploads a few files... is a horrible criminal that needs to spend a good chunk of his life behind bars... -_-
Jesus Christ America... get your god damned priorities straight... -_- Stop being bitches to the corps! Stop throwing people in jail just because a corporation doesn't like their activities. -_- How do they get to decide law?
This whole thing is so ***** up... -_- - inactive, on 11/18/2007, -2/+26sorry to spoil your party, but it's not funny. the federal sentence for terrorism is 10 years. ripping the IRS off for $100M is 10 years. sexual exploitation of a minor is 10 years. criminal sexual abuse is 10 years. voluntary manslaughter is 10 years. etc. if the punishment is supposed to fit the crime, how the ***** is voluntary manslaughter equivalent to uploading star wars. the people govern the government. do something. http://www.ussc.gov/2006guid/gl2006.pdf
- mqcarpenter, on 11/18/2007, -3/+27Shouldn't 10 years be the penalty for MAKING that movie?
- battlenix, on 11/18/2007, -1/+21From Torrentfreak
“What are you in for?”
I raped a teenager.
“You?”
I killed a man.
“And what about you new fish?”
I uploaded Star Wars to the internet. - fearlessfx, on 11/18/2007, -1/+20Time for an obligatory '***** the RIAA' and '***** the MPAA'
- NnyCW, on 11/18/2007, -0/+19The United States doesn't torture.
*Discreetly motions for privately hired goons to take you to a country that does* - addakorn, on 11/18/2007, -1/+19I am already required to purchase things I do not want. On my property tax I am charged for a landfill (this gives me the ability to use the landfill and it's convenience centers - This I want), on my utility bill (the city provides electric, water, sewer and garbage collection. we get a massive all in one bill) I pay for garbage collection. This I do not want as I have a pick-up truck and a convenience center right down the street from me. If I do not pay for this service, first I lose my electric and water - things I want - then I lose my house.
I have even heard of a local guy who wanted to go off the grid. The city deemed his house unfit to occupy, then took it. - SideShowMel0329, on 11/18/2007, -0/+16Sad, but money is the only reason uploaders get more jail time
- Firehed, on 11/18/2007, -0/+16Well, regardless, it's still interesting to notice that (unless my memory fails me), the punisher is getting twice the maximum allowable punishment for both fine and prison time (5 years, $250k). According to the first relevant result in a google image search (http://www.voicesinc.org/blog/wp-content/gallery/f ... I'm apparently not crazy.
- alansky, on 11/18/2007, -1/+16"I think the ridiculous thing is the relative sentences for copyright infringement vs murder, rape, etc etc." —spiralspirit
That's because rape and murder only attack other people, who are expendable in the eyes of the rich and powerful; but copyright infringement is an attack on the great god Profit, which can never be tolerated. - inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+14-_-
- k3nshady89, on 11/18/2007, -1/+14Elite Torrents, we will never forget.
- chrisinsocalif, on 11/18/2007, -0/+13Dog the Bounty Hunter was convicted of murder and was sentenced to 5 years. He served less than 2 years in prison. Yet uploading data can get you 10 years? WTF?!? Doesnt make sense.
- NnyCW, on 11/18/2007, -0/+12Exactly. Those people not only had to buy booze, they supported the auto industry as well! Not to mention ensured further need for the police and medical professionals.
Lazy good for nothing pirates. - otero1, on 11/18/2007, -0/+12Amen to that.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -2/+14The server was located in the Netherlands, the owner of the domain name was located in the US.
- Spanktacular, on 11/18/2007, -1/+12Aren't they still leaving downloaders alone, and going for the uplaoders, as the article indicates?
- 15thPD, on 11/18/2007, -2/+13I hope so. If they come after downloaders, I'm screwed.
- DesertDude, on 11/18/2007, -6/+16I like how this is the same society that's criticizing my home country of Saudi Arabia for dealing out "harsh" punishments for adultery, but TEN YEARS of prison for sharing a movie, that's alright.
- 3210, on 11/18/2007, -1/+11Not surprising, big business is so powerful in the United States that they can get the FBI to focus on copyright infringement rather than spend their time tracking down real threats. It is complete trash but, that's how it is.
- KSUdesigner, on 11/18/2007, -3/+13You can keep siding with Bush but don't act surprised when we end up in world war 3.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -3/+12the sad fact of the matter is that there are multiple offense child molesters that get lighter sentences than this.
- perkoff, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9Yeah, but some millionaire owner of a movie company isn't as rich as he thinks he should be. I know a good idea, put the people that made him a millionaire in jail!!
- perkoff, on 11/18/2007, -1/+10How bout that any law enforement agency would go after a person uploading a movie when there is real crime in the world.
- spiralspirit, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9punishments should still be relative. Violent crimes should have much heavier penalties.
- inactive, on 11/18/2007, -0/+9If you go to prison, someone else is likely to start using your crack.
- badtzmartin, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8Or less...
- Neo139, on 11/18/2007, -0/+810 Years!! Woww, in Argentina if you kill a person you get 5 years and you can leave at the third year because of good behavior
- maus56, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8This is for pre-release uploads, the same reason various ex-members of OINK are now looking over their shoulders.
- houndeyex, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8Guess who gets to be bitch...
- KLowD9x, on 11/18/2007, -0/+8I'd say that prison is torture.
- luchid, on 11/18/2007, -2/+9you should start "useing" a spell checker.
