- KingAR_II, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8First off $30 bucks isn't 'measly'... and secondly I have mint and I got to say it's more pretty than anything else. I still prefer my Analytics Awstats combo!
- jonthewonderdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think Google Analytics is very robust for a free software. I love it.
- kriegs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They forgot Re_invigorate: http://www.reinvigorate.net/
It's back finally, but in Beta form. Still a great solution - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Those six packages are actually ones that I have worked with personally. I'm not familiar with Re_invigorate but that doesn't preclude me from covering it later on. A lot of nice package suggestions have come from this post, so thanks and maybe you'll see a follow-up shortly :)
This answers the questions about any other stats packages, btw. I've only covered those that I have had personal experience with. There's always room to explore further and elaborate. - akuzemchak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2eWebCounter isn't too bad either.
http://www.ewebcounter.com/ - scottschiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's a video here showing the UI and features.

Anyone who remembers V1 of reinvigorate (2003-04?) might recall the java applet-based live reporting tool (every live hit would play a sound if you wanted, show IP and referrer) - was really cool when you were being Slashdotted or something (I'd say "being Dugg", but it didn't exist then!) - I was a big fan.
The current service shows "live" (recent) visitors alongside totals for the day, among other stats (referrals and so on.) - kenmantx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another vote for Reinvigorate here (http://www.reinvigorate.net/).
- WhatiFind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The same for me, I like Analytics with a combination of Awstats. I question the accuracy of Webalizer.. Maby somebody can give an opinion on this.
- Boulevard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Statcounter only logs the first 100 pageviews? On my site that would make it to about 8am, lol. Not much of a free tool there. It does look like the pay version is pretty nice though.
- infowar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What about crazyegg.com? Possibly the best analytics out there that make sense.
- skored, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One thing I have heard about Webalizer is that it doesn’t distinguish between human visitors and automated requests like bots. Anyone else ever hear this or have more info about its accuracy?
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I run AWstats for more than 100 reports daily. Amazing thing, not as flashy as the one with the maps though.
- Shak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone recommend other server-side analytics / statistic tools?
- Flamekebab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I personally like Zorbstats.
I use Google Analytics too, but there's something about Zorbstats that appeals to me. - MagicBobert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with this as well. I've never found Webalizer to be particularly accurate.
My favorite on this list is AWStats, with Google Analytics in close second. - fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'll agree with you, tho I can't comment on the inaccuracy of Webalizer.
We (www.sevenl.net) use awstats to get a comparison with google analytics. Awstats also stores data for a longer period of time (indefinitely?)
Analytics is amazing tho, especially if you use adwords... really easy to set up campaigns and set marketing goals, conversion goals, etc. - andreascliment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Statcounter logs all visitors but just shows details for the latest 100 if you're using the free account. You can still see how many uniques and pageloads your site has had. I'm at 2,317 uniques and 4,626 pageviews so far today and I'm using the free service.
- krynsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm looking for a web based system that can track adsense clicks. I'm currently using Google Analytics and this custom script: http://asp-net-whidbey.blogspot.com/2006/03/tracking-adsense-clicks-with-google.html
But I'd like a totally integrated solution if anyone knows of one. - qsqueeq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bbclone (bbclone.de) isn't a bad php counter (of sorts). It tracks user sessions very well.
- knouri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That reinvigorate site looks like a teaser. No info, just an invite to sign up for beta or log in. Is there anywhere that I can get some REAL info on the product?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I count my clicks with Google Analytics (and used Urchin and Webalizer previously) and still run Webalizer in the background for uh ***** and giggles. It does report significantly more traffic than Google tells us, and yes I believe this is due to robots. I trust google has better filters!!
I track my dollars with http://www.unifiedstats.com which is a great free tool that does mostly adult programs, but also some mainstream programs as well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@angusm: "The article seems to mix logfile analysis programs like Webalizer with tracker-based systems like Google Analytics."
That is correct and is clearly stated in each individual package's description. - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I swear digg needs a Web Based Software catagory
- tablatronix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1webalizer sucks by default, no drill downs or advanced features and usually limited to top 10 or 100 which is sometimes pointless and it saves no history other than the totals.
awstats is very nice and very easy to add things like compression stats etc.
Statcounter is ok but a bit flaky, it never reported my search engine hits or keywords correctly. Does have advanced stuff like resolution and js detection if you wanted to sample that for a bit.
Ive also given slimstat a try, its fairly decent. - LGgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NoScript, only way to surf!
- cindysim212, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On my blog I use google analytics and also mybloglog (just for the more immediate stats) and it works great for me so far. I would never pay for stats when there are good free ones.
- ponosocheg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Really good. Are you people blind to vote for THIS?
- kitejumping, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1phpMyVisites FTW been using it for a long time and nothing else can compare...

- iankennedy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@scottschiller
Yes, I totally remember v1 and the realtime ping. Very cool feature indeed. - rchmura, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Don't forget about http://GoStats.com
- angusm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think Webalizer's reputation for inaccuracy comes from the fact that 'out of the box' it doesn't distinguish spiders from human users, and will count in-site redirects as hits. Both of these problems can be fixed in the configuration file, although you'll have to set up your own Ignore rules for eliminating spiders from your results (unless someone has a complete list somewhere, which is possible).
The article seems to mix logfile analysis programs like Webalizer with tracker-based systems like Google Analytics. The tracker type systems rely on some embedded content in the page causing the user's browser to send a request or message to the 'home' site of the analysis package. The embedded content might be an image or Javascript, which could lead to slight under-reporting (users who have Javascript turned off won't show up in the stats - but neither will robots, which is handy). - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1naw $30 is pretty measly...
If you're having trouble with paying a one off 30 bucks for stats you probably don't get enough traffic to do analytics on...
Mint is pretty good too... it's got a few drawbacks (no individual visitor tracking) but it's very easy to use and expandable..
I still don't think I've ever seen a decent comprehensive stats package however... - hogfoot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I am in the processing of trying out phpTrafficA...seemingly good analysis and path tracking.
http://soft.zoneo.net/phpTrafficA/ - joeschmidt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2For a measly $30 you can get a copy of mint - http://www.haveamint.com A Beautiful looking stat package and has great 3rd party plug-ins.
