Enjoy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30its even easier to click that little red thumbs-down button to the right of your name
- chrono13, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Why register?
http://www.bugmenot.com/ - teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Dial-up modem drivers on windows 98.
*shivers* - S!L3N7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Seen this before on MSFN.org. Its part of the windows unattended installation forum, basically they aim to make XP distro's that install themselves, aswell as lots of other things like installing programs at the first start of the OS. Really good read if you have the time :)
- Tezkah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Use either bugmenot.com, or simply give them an @mailinator.com email address.
Then, just go to www.mailinator.com, and enter the username (for example, if you gave $spammy_site xyber109i429@mailinator.com, you'd put in xyber109i429 on mailinator.com. Your email would be sitting there for a few hours, and then you can safely forget about the email address. Very handy. - chaosroach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Just a heads up there's an extension for firefox called BugMeNot:
http://roachfiend.com/archives/2005/02/07/bugmenot/
It basically goes through a list of names and passwords to log you into a ton of sites both pay and non-pay.
It worked for driverguide and I use it in places like newscientist.com to read the full articles.
P.S. Fix Diebold. - Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If it's a USB driver you're looking for, you should know what the device is just by looking at it's model number & manufacturer... eg. printer, fax, scanner, modem, etc... the point of these are so you don't have to crack open the case and look for the chips of each of the devices, eg. onboard lan, sound, chipset, video, etc...
- mrjeffery, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I dont hate searching for drivers, i actually find it quite satisfying. Im also quite sad.
- duncantuna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That's one of those partially helpful, maybe not, kind of sites. On the one hand, if I was installing a new piece of hardware on a PC on a desert island, a DVD full of 10 million drivers would be helpful.
However, since drivers do change in the first 6-12-24 months on the market (if you're lucky the manufacturer keeps tabs on bugs and continues development) .. a cd/dvd full of drivers would be out of date very quickly.
For example, It's been literally years since I took the driver CD out of a new box and used it. The first thing I do when I install something new is immediately go to the manufacturer's website and get the latest driver. Having a CD full of drivers would only be advantageous if you didn't have an internet connection, which I admit, happens, but thankfully rarely. - drwatson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Nope, that username and password still works, just tried it.
- asshanks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9hahahaha are you serious? Windows has the best driver support out of any other operating system. Linux has terrible support, there should be a driver site like this one here for linux
- roach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The actual login that works on driverguide.com is;
DRIVERS / ALL
The previous post is incorrect and will not work, enjoy! - johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Very cool, but I wish sites would stop messing with hyperlink underlines! Underlines should be UNDER the text, not above it!
- S!L3N7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4usb drivers? as in, for USB devices or for your USB ports on your board? If you mean on your board, there included in the Chipset Drivers.
If not, it all depends on what device it is. As the saying goes, *****
:) - robbyt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4there's a site like this for linux, it's called kernel.org check it out some time!
- tominator1983, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As a computer repair technician, there were so many times on the field that I wished I had something like this. There were a number of times that I had to install Windows XP on someone's machine and then I would have to go through all the hassle of getting on the internet and tracking down their obscure motherboard model number to get drivers.
And if they didn't have internet access, but had some really obscure part, things could sometimes really get messy.
Now, I can just make a dvd that slipstreams all the possible drivers onto a single disk with the windows xp install. - Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"P.S. Fix Diebold." - huh?
- Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5well dang... I just re-tried it... I guess it was just expired for a few days last month or something... I even signed up for a new username/password for myself... Now I'm gonna get spammed for nothing... I hate it when stuff like that happens. >:(
- Ordinant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I fail to understand why we're supposed to trust the lifework of someone who calls himself Bâshrat the Sneaky.
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Although I wont be needing these, I dugg it for the effort and great work of the guy.
- toddv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"mailinator.com" is a great idea. Of course, if it is used too often, sites will be onto it and disallow mailinator.com addresses. Mailinator could then try other domains.
- rssurvivor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This seems to be useful, thanks for the driverguide too
- Darrelc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bugmenot is awesome, You don't have to use the extension though, you can just go to www.bugmenot.com. It annoys me when Im on a news site reading an article and click next page only to be greeted with "Sign up to view the rest of this article!".
I think its a good idea for a site but I tend not to use driver disks anymore as by the time I've formatted and installed again a lot of the drivers are out of date. - uzusan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this extension runs using a website bugmenot.com
just put in a site name and it gives you some user / password combos. really useful.
(i use that extension, but not everyone uses firefox, mores the pity) - chaosroach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Windows Update works with pirated versions of XP if you download a certain verfication file for it btw.
- Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had also used windrivers too... I had a subscription through my office and that helped me a lil. But the point is that I don't have to search anymore (I knew where to search and everything before, I just didn't like doing it :P ).
- Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know about you, but I deal with spyware, adware, and rootkits every day. I have successfully removed all of them at one time or another, seeing as how I look at 15+ infected machines a day. I can tell you that there are no spyware, adware, or rootkits in this software as of last night.
- Bashrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hehe :D Here I am, Bâshrat the Sneaky, in the flesh... I just thought it was a cool nickname :)
P.S.: I have yet to receive the first spyware/malware complaint, by the way ;). - Bashrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Obviously, these DriverPacks are only for Windows XP. ;)
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Windows XP I should say lol
- alchemista, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So can the original poster give us a torrent of his DVD that contains all these?
- Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3LOL... yah, those were f**** horrible... I still have to deal with those a lot of the times.
- Bashrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The reason for doing it that way is simple: when you install Windows and you want it to use the DriverPacks, you'll have to list them in the OemPnPDriversPath entry in the winnt.sif file. And that entry has a size limit: maximum 4096 bytes are allowed, if you enter more, everything after the 4096th byte will be ommitted.
By the way, you can check which driver is in which directory in the readme files ;) For example, here is the one for DriverPack Graphics A: http://www.driverpacks.net/Projects/DriverPacks/DriverPack_Graphics_A.htm. - Wheeler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3TRUE THAT - this is great for computer repairguys
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there are 3rd party driver packs including modems at msfn.org
- Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2possibly, but i don't think companies really care if you redistribute their drivers... I think they've gotten used to people indexing their drivers and copying them everywhere... I think some of them just have a problem with reingeneering them
- ArchLoki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use driver wizard and it seems to do a decent job finding drivers for my PC components and updating them.
- C0D3R, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You can't be serious. Downloading drivers from a site other than the manufacturer is a good way to get spyware, adware, or r00ted. Unbelievable that the idea is 2000+ digs popular.
- anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Looking for drivers atm, just had to re-install XP due to a screwed up dell driver :(
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, assuming that you have the driver to get your lan/wlan up and running...
Still, I think this is a pretty handy idea - he'd probably be better off bundling them all together and making a big torrent file though... Anyone else wanna do it? - stevester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i have had an account with them for some time now, and recently they updated their system, you have to register an account using an email address. but it's still free and great service
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It accually Driver2.
;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Create your own Windows installation CD with nLite.
Integrate drivers, hotfixes, Service Packs, applications...
More than 150 application addons for nLite:
http://addons.wordpress.com/ - Bashrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And if you would check your drivers and try to find new ones, you'd be presented a complete list of drivers that are completely out-of-date.
EVERY Windows XP system that isn't installed on a SATA HDD/RAID config, or that has no exotic hardware, will work by default. But performance will be terrible. ;-) If you use the DriverPacks, you'll have the latest drivers installed without much (if any) effort. - aaplmacguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg. I like sites like this. Saves me time and I love that!
- fireandicefuel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is what I've been looking for forever
- MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Back when I was still on dial-up, Update told me there was a new driver available for my 56k modem. After that, I couldn't get anymore than 24k out of it. They gave me the wrong driver. So I rolled back the driver and have never gotten drivers from MS Update since.
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2driver2 all.
If this guy added modems.. he'd have a winer. - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, it's not.
He is not changing them nor selling them.
They are already free.
"Without permission".. lol. You really think the companies want a phone call from end users for dirvers? They are accually much happier for places like this- I promise. -
