- lieutenantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I don't really think a spam filter that deletes non-spam should be qualified as "too good." A spam filter is supposed to recognize spam. Hell, I could write a rule in my mail client that prevents 100% of spam from getting into my inbox in three minutes, but that doesn't make it a good spam filter.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You know, I would go through all the spam to make sure one or two comments did not get removed by mistake, but when you get over 3,000 spam comments a day it becomes too much work. I'd rather lose a few comments than a day of sifting.
- knaps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use Askimet on my blog (wordpress), which gets a few hundred spam comments in a week, with maybe a dozen or so legitimate ones. So far, I've had it return one false positive to me, since I started using it.
Overall I think it's a really great implementation that any blogger should be happy to have. It's amazing to watch how robust projects like Wordpress are getting. - docjeff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been using Akismet for some time now and have yet to see a false positive.
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"...filter your spam filter for better results."
So by logic, if you filter out your spam filter... does that mean you get all you spam back? - nipuL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On my mail server I use greylisting and black list services like spamcop and no spam filter whatsoever. And don't get spam.
- tommasz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The comment spams started slowly on my weblog but the new arrival rate continued to increase. It took 5 months to get from 0 to 10,000 but only 11 days to get to 10,001 to 20,000. Akismet was catching them fine but there were literally too many to review unless I checked hourly. Adding Bad Behavior and Comment Timeout (both recommended in the article) made all the difference. Now the Akismet review queue is manageable and most of the comment spams never even enter the system.
- uidzero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I figured it out. I decompiled Akismet. The source doe is:

Oh and btw, Spam Karma owns akismet. - khag7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1th4nks 1 n33d3d th4t
