- brocklese, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24hmm, should I actually pay for this one?
- KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14And you don't think Photoshop CS3 Extended will be ridiculously expensive? Regular old PS is ridiculously expensive as it is, I don't even want to think of how much this is going to end up costing.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9weather? really?
- wompninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8that makes no sense.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Its official.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/ps_psext_info.html - unit101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This makes a lot of sense when you watch the CS3 trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCs2lu7KoOk
All the cube twirling... - cjonpayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Avid bigger than Adobe?
Thanks. I needed that little chuckle.
And while I certainly have heard of Avid (seeing as I'm an XSI user), they're not even as big as Autodesk, much less Adobe. - Estazor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Actually CS3 seems to be very light compared to CS2 atleast back on my 512MB machine. It ran a lot smoother and faster so I wouldn't really consider the new version bloat so to speak. Especially when the features it has are very useful and needed....well as long as you aren't some kid trying to make little banners for a forum or something.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I still have to go to school whether or not the weather is *****.
- TiKoZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"1 Why play with success and why change anything?" Thats why there will be two versions.
- Zreitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The next version of the Creative Suite will include flash cs3..yea i said Flash CS3! and they will work together...
- lowridah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Also, the portions of the program designed for video layering/3d model integration into psd files is primarily for 2d work. The ability to manipulate 3d objects as layers in Photoshop can be VERY useful for digital image manipulation, as I'm sure you can imagine.
After Effects, on the other hand, is primarily geared for video work. Once again, two distinct market segments. Many graphic artists wish they could manipulate images by mapping things to 3d objects. I don't think many of them want to spend the time learning After Effects just to do that, though. - Jimzip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hehe. They said 'abreast'..
Jimzip :D - lowridah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The majority of what's in the Extended version is for analysis purposes, not pseudo-3D as you put it. The two products serve distinctly different purposes.
Back when I did support for Photoshop I got an occasional call from a dentist using it to graph the golden ratio of tooth photos. It beats out other software that does the same thing by a few thousand dollars. Even if Extended is marginally more expensive than standard, it should prove to be worth the extra outlay of cash for those that will actually use the extended features. - hockeysmurf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Only a matter of time before Adobe enters the high end 3D market. Perhaps they'll buy out SoftImage or Cinema. It would be a good move, considering every 3D artist needs Photoshop for day-to-day tasks. A 3D package 100% integrated with Photoshop would kick ass.
- jimripper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been waiting a long time for Adobe to do this. Currently, many researchers use Matlab to do image analysis (counting cell cultures and bacterial plates, fluorescent readouts, adjusting CT scan data, and much more). Matlab is ridiculously expensive and difficult to learn and use. Adobe has nothing to lose by entering that market, especially if it gives the user more power to automatic imaging tasks. I'll digg this ***** up.
- Sarki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hear ya. Thank Jebus for academic versions.
- Zreitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Golive is entering EOL (end of life) Adobe will keep selling it but there will be no new versions.
Flash and dreamweaver will both get a CS3 stamp and be placed in the Creative Suite, there will actually be three versions of the Creatuive Suite, Web, Graphics and Vdieo. - mizraabianz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow.. what a news, even though i use after effects for my motion graphics, using photoshop for 3d is just unique idea and i am sure it will kick some major ass.. imagine full integration of photoshop with aftereffect/flash for interactive websites.. man man.. i cannot wait.
- creativeembassy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now I'm a bit confused. The whole point of Adobe After Effects is to do motion graphics and psuedo-3D. If you've ever used it, you'd find that the control are actually pretty similar to Photoshop, albeit they include a timeline and controls for that. So why would Adobe start competing with their other products? It sounds like now, they have two pieces of software that do the same thing.
- Zreitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the photoshop cs3 beta on the website is not the extended version
- there, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would have much preferred 3d graphics available to flash. Coding it manually is exceptionally tedious.
- ae92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2n00b3, the best way to learn is to just come up with an idea for something you want to make, and go and try to do it. I learned the basics of After Effects in a day because I was working in a multimedia shop and they said "hey, you've got all of tomorrow to make a quick TV commercial for our client... here's the After Effects install CD!" (Granted, having that kind of pressure on you helps too... as does having the best After Effects guy in the shop sitting one desk over, which I did at the time.)
Anyway, come up with an idea for a 15 second trailer or something (15 seconds is long in the video world), storyboard it out, then hop into After Effects and see how close you can get to your vision. It's fairly intuitive... - 68024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...and a previous installation of CS2.
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cs3 beta on adobe site, i wonder if this 3d program is in it?....i like cinema 4d but if it's an easier 3d app i'll definately be interested.
- Trihedralguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you Google Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta you can download a beta copy FREE from adobe labs..You just have to have an adobe account.
- n00b3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is some good news. However, I'd still like to see some tight integration between PS and Dreamweaver and Flash. We all know how bad fireworks is at gradients and shadows.

According to Wikipedia, you're full of *****. And I believe it, because... who has even ever HEARD of Avid Technologies?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Systems
Revenue $2.575 billion USD (2006)
Employees 5,879 (September 2006)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avid_Technology
Net income 33.98M
Employees 2,613 - theappreciative, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1thats nice
- n00b3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^ thats exciting news. I think Adobe has consistently delivered great upgrades to their products in the CS line up.
anyone played with MS expressions? - lancert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The 3D in PS will be a great addition (depending on how much more $$$ it is). I'd like to see PS and Illustrator merge and get rid of having two separate programs. Also, any word on what's actually going to be in CS3? What's going on with Flash & Dreamweaver? And for that (lesser) matter, Fireworks, GoLive and the rest of the duplicate programs?
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I wonder if this just means they're bringing back the 3D Transform filter... If so, I don't see why as nobody I know of ever used it.
If it's something new and special only available in Extended, then I'm interested, but I still have C4D and 3DSM for 3D. - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2sweet, can't wait for paradox to crack this one as well:)
- unknownsoldierX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6If Photoshop isn't worth the money to you, then you don't truly need it. Use GIMP.
Matlab is around $1900 for a commercial license. I have never seen the software, but everyone says it's a bitch to learn and use. Adobe could sell theirs for about the same price, and it could be successful simply because it's easier and makes everyone more productive. - n00b3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I still haven't figured how to use After Effects. Haven't had the patient to sit down and work on some tuts. It would be nice if they make the motion graphics stuff easy with preset actions, tween and stuff like that.
- cjonpayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really hope that Adobe doesn't try to buy Maxon, but considering how well Cinema 4D plays with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, a buyout wouldn't surprise me.
- GonzoLiga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Somehow, it was funnier when Jimzip wrote it.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not mentionning the people running CS2 on an intel mac with the terribly painful PowerPC emulation (amazing considering what it does but it makes your Dual core machine look like a G4 at best).
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When they say '3d object', do they mean a .obj or .3ds file?
- jrsims, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Can't wait for the crack!!
Nah, I kid. I kid!
But seriously... - makido, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Worst grammar ever.
Why should I read your garbage if you can't even take 20 seconds to proofread it?
Swear to god. - filemeaway, on 10/12/2007, -13/+9"We are sharing this exciting news so you can stay abreast of our upcoming product release plans."
haha.. abreast - Spiritcatcher, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wake me up when they do holograms on "Elements"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1crack the extended version first 8D
- zanent, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Purchasing Softimage from Avid would not happen, Avid is bigger then Adobe and would never sell a division to a company the deem inferior like Adobe
- Brows, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3so now I will have a choice between bloated software or extended bloated software. sweet.
- idevlabsdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2@brocklese
lol, you're silly - spatznick, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Photoshop is the best in its class. Two thougts:
1 Why play with success and why change anything?
2 Is this change might be needed to keep this leadership position? Possibly. - KaserPro, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1possibly, however it looks more like an attempt to combat autodesk (who now own maya, combustion, flint, flame, smoke inferno 3ds max etc.) and create a 3D package.
It looks like they are trying to hint that they may have some statistical support (weather thats anything more than javascript is another matter, there are a lot of easy dollar in persuading dumbarses to buy into business intelligence currently)
i'm still gonna stick to combustion and maya for the moment.
