Well, aren't you special. I'll alert the media that no one can ever report on anything that flamingmb has already heard about. After all, the whole Internet revolves around flamingmb. Should we have the digg developers add a filter so no stories get posted unless flamingmb approves them? - cyberwiz01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Just tried "Floola" on Ubuntu linux and I have to admit, it's much better than GTKPod, which I was using before.
Dugg for a good piece of software. - milesd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Just so you know, you can not just change the names of the files and expect them to show up correctly. You have to change the metadata.
Also, I believe that you can opt out of Quicktime, or at the least, not let it associate itself with any file types. - dignation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'm sorry, but I believe you didn't use enough exclamation points or question marks, so I have included some here: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!!!!!!?!?!???!?!!
I know its not the same, but I hope it will suffice. - muka3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Winamp does all of this and more in one program, when you're using the ml_ipod plugin. Plus, it's faster and easier. It's not just limited to iPods either.

There's no valid reason/advantage in using anything else for syncing. - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@origclubsoda
Primarily, iTunes doesn't let you copy music or video OFF your iPod, and syncing is a bit complex. You can only automatically sync with one computer, and if you manually sync any files, they're deleted the next time you plug into a computer that's syncing automatically. - sneakerelph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6HAHA! We tricked you!
@finite:
Actually, the iPod is USB Mass Storage compliant. You just can't drag and drop songs and make them play without using alternative firmware such as RockBox. - neko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@finite: I agree with you, USB Mass Storage is much better, but I can't stand the FTW acronym.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Excellent Program, takes 2 secs to set it up.
I donated 10 euro - keep up the good work :) - fmaxwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@flamingmb
"I dont review apps,"
So you are a leech.
"nor do I whore out my own website,"
Publishing something on your website isn't 'whoring it out'. That's the purpose of web sites.
"and I found the apps without a story,"
So what? There are probably countless useful apps that you have not found yet and that you might find through stories like this one. Besides, just because you happened to find some apps doesn't mean that everyone did or that people who have not found them yet are somehow inferior to you. They may have found apps that you've not discovered yet -- or they just might not have as much spare time as you.
"so there go your first three points."
Yep. You proved all three of them for me.
"Yes its always news to some but this times its years old"
You're a liar. floola was released in the fall of last year -- not years ago.
"and it falls under common knowledge."
No, it does not. I had never heard of floola and I know a lot more about computers and ipods than you do. The fact that so many people dug the story shows that it was useful and news to many digg users.
"I think you are pissy too."
That might hurt coming from someone I respected. Given how your comments are rated here, apparently I'm not the only one who has no respect for you. - anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have a Shuffle and a 5g iPod Video, and I *like* them, but not love them. They beat the hell out of the Creative Zen I had before them, which broke within a month.
On the other hand, I despise iTunes with every fiber of my being. It chokes on my 30,000+ mp3s stored on my network drive, takes up over 90% of my processor even when idle, and makes my computer impossible to use when it's running. And any time I want to add music to my network drive, I have to remember each new file and then drag them all into iTunes rather than having it autoscan for changes like a GOOD jukebox will do (ex. Amarok and Media Monkey)
This article has some good options to keep in mind, though Media Monkey (Win) and Amarok (Ubuntu) will do everything I need them do as far as my iPods go. The only time I bother with iTunes is for the occasional firmware update.
Rockbox is another good alternative, though it put too much of a drain on my 5G's battery. - anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uhm, iTunes doesn't work so well for a LOT of people. Telling us to go out and drop 2 grand for a Mac is hardly a viable solution. Nor will buying a Mac suddenly turn our world into rainbows and pixiedust.
I'm sick and tired of fanboys of all ilks who try to push their viewpoints on everybody else. You know what? If I wanted a ***** Mac, I'd go out and buy one *****, and I don't need your recommendation or permission to do so. And if I want to use iTunes, I'll do so.. whether you tell me I should or not. Maybe iTunes and Apple fill some kind of missing void in your sad life, and to that I say "yippee for you!". What works for you works for YOU, that doesn't mean it works for me or anyone else though.
So kindly go sodomize yourself with your iPod and shut the ***** up. - dignation, on 10/12/2007, -3/+780% market share gets pretty damn close
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4*raises hand*
Well, I for one don't "love" the iPod.
*gets stoned to death* - anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If your only copies of your music reside on a fragile portable device, you deserve to lose it.
- dilbertmouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Hens love roosters, geese love ganders, everyone else love the iPod.
"Not me!"
Everyone who counts loves the iPod. - Kingfisherx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4All i use with my shuffle is winamp. The new version has built in support for portable devices including ipods.
- MYarms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm not limited to just one computer or music library. I can connect to any computer I want that is running iTunes and grab up anyone's library with my iPod. Its always been that way for me. Just do it manually instead of syncing, its like the easiest workaround ever. For getting music off of it, I use Yamipod. Its very fast and easy to use.
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Try Amarok, it's a great KDE based music manager similar to itunes, but much better. Has pretty good podcast support too. It supports the ipod, and other mp3 players.
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Direct Link:
http://www.floola.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=download - bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its amazing how many of the complaints in the forum comments were people who weren't having problems with iTunes, but rather with autosync. All they had to do is turn it off! RTFM!
I think one point he wasn't clear about is that you don't have to dump iTunes. Although I usually use iTunes, I've had Yamipod for years. On rare occasions, its been handy to get music onto my iPod from a computer that doesn't have iTunes (e.g. my work computer). Its a standalone app so you just keep it on the iPod (in disk mode) - nothing to install. Flooza sounds great for this as well. I highly recommend these proggys even for iTunes users.
This is much simpler than installing iTunes on any freakin' computer from which you might want a song, and you don't have to worry whether autosync is going to wipe your iPod clean. You could have the song on the iPod faster than you could download iTunes. - utch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Good Tutorial - here is another good one to help you get your music and videos off your ipod - http://www.mp3buzz.net/index.php/2006/06/27/how-to-get-songs-off-your-ipod-w-itunes/
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3iTunes wasn't created to fix any overarching compatibility. It was created to make it very easy to do a very limited set of things in a very limited environment. Its the Apple way.
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Winamp does all of this and more in one program, when you're using the ml_ipod plugin."
Floola and Yamipod allow you to load songs from a computer without having to install something. Probably not a problem for your main computer(s), but handy in other cases. - cyberwiz01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A great program for editing large amounts of mp3 tags is EasyTag
http://easytag.sourceforge.net/
That should get iTunes, as well as your iPod recognizing all your songs correctly
It's open source too! - Duositex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Then you must not count! digg logic 101 dude!
- waterdrop, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Not everyone loves the iPod. I don't love the iPod. I own an iPod, but I don't love it.
- anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Why in the HELL do you have over 30000 mp3s?
There is no way you can listen to them all. You must be distributing, and THAT my friends is why the RIAA is up in arms. My piddly little collection of 200 or so (that I actually listen to) is small potatoes."
Come talk to me when you have a clue. My fiance and I have been collecting records, tapes and CDs for over 30 years. Our CD collection takes up half of our living room wall. That 30,000 mp3 collection doesn't even represent our full music collection, as I don't have the time to rip them all because I have a life. Also take into consideration a great deal of audiobooks and podcasts.. and 30,000 isn't that big a deal. They all fit on a 250gb network drive.
You don't even know me, yet accuse me of distributing? Go ***** yourself. Aside from sharing a few albums with a friend here and there, my collection is soley for my fiance and I. If I was selling this *****, I could afford a high end freakin' Mac to run your pretty little iTunes oh' so smoothly you presumptuous little ass. - Aquashark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iTunes worst piece of software since IE 4.0
- anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iPod Linux can do this, but poorly. Not worth the effort if you ask me.
- HMaster92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah and if you put videos on an ipod with a color screen they have to be uncompressed .avi the last time i checked. So no using itunes videos or those 700 MB .avis from torrent
- wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Dose it work with podcasts? I have not been able to find a good podcasts catcher to work with edgy
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You can add music to any ipod from any computer so long as you dont mind not using playlists. Your pretty much stuck with just adding them to the main library and then making On the Go playlists when your done.
All you gotta do is click no when it asks if you wanna tie the ipod to the itunes and then you can drag songs from the library onto the ipod. - Moogle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The best thing ever since... me.
- sirber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why does it so looks like yamipod?
Same look, same speed, same functions and menus... - vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've been using Pod Player for quite some time now. I like that it runs as a standalone app like utorrent and doesn't require any install. One thing I have noticed however is that it doesn't shuffle my tunes properly and tends to repeat tracks when using the shuffle option. I'm not sure why it does this but it sucks to keep hearing the same things in your playlist over and over.
- khyberkitsune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Winamp's done this for quite some time now, though it had it's glitches!
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Floola is working well with Edgy.

Enjoy. - razicop, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1its coooooooool, i have uploaded some nice tunes in my ipod, thanks...
- relaxarchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just tried it... its a great tool if you dont mind the 4 mins it takes to load all the songs... I have the 80 gig unit with 5400+ songs on it and you could hear the poor little hard drive in the ipod spinning its heart out loading everything into Floola....
I'll give it a second try at work as I wanted to move some songs onto my work computer. - kronix2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Whoever dugg you down for saying you donated €10 is a ***** idiot.
- cyberwiz01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dont know why you got dugg down wired, but it does have a podcast menu, so I'm guessing it does support podcasts. I don't suscribe to any though, so I cant really test it.
- blankoboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Uh, winamp?
- LoganT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, awesome.
- ninetailfox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well i looked into the ipods and found that they aren't all compatable with All computers....only some...and the ones that are are bout $20 more then the ones that aren't...and knowing that todays' population is going to go for the cheap...Itunes was created to fix the whole compatability problem if i understand it right...ipods are supposed to be very reliable though...till they get stolen or you have to replace the battery witch from what i heard is really expensive to do so....kinda like a cell phone its nice till they come out with a new kind then you find your self wanting that one instead...but whos complaining? the public that's who...
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1winamp
- operand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PodPlus is another application used at sync'ing up the iPod. There are several other applications and the majority do a better overall job than iTunes which I find to be lackluster.
