- c4mden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8was looking into this the other day, as an alternative to the google mini search appliance. you have to set up your own server running the omnifind software, and it will then index your intranet and forms and whatever other files for easy web searching functionality.

looks like it supports linux just fine... i can't see if it's open source or not, but it's certainly free for up to 500,000 documents. after that, it looks like it jumps up to $18k/year. google's mini is a one time cost of $2,000 for up to 300,000 documents, and one time $30k for more than that (i think, it was a litlle while ago) - amirjpl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7yes finally a nice search engine for my site. i didnt like using google
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would prefer the open source Nutch ( http://lucene.apache.org/nutch ) to set up a custom search engine.

You ignorant slut, if you knew anything about the IBM organization you would have easily found someone to school you in your ignorance. I'm always amazed at how precocious little *****, like yourself, like to think they're uber developers and utter ridiculous comments such as you could have done it better yourself. As soon as I read that comment, I knew I was dealing with a code monkey that was all talk. I've seen and used the WebSphere user interface and I really doubt a code monkey could even approach the design and usability that went into the interface. I would even go so far as to wager that you probably couldn't even build a simple web page with a server side backend.
As for your little branch office that couldn't figure out how to use the product, why not kick it to the big boys in the real offices next time. - ell0bo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0OK, I just got done playing around with OmniFind when I was a coop with IBM 4 months ago, and let me tell you how HORRIBLE it is. They came to me to figure it out because no one there at IBM could figure out how to use it. It has to run on WebSphere and the system they have rigged for this is just annoying. The web interface is simply appauling, I think I could have done better about 4 years ago, and all I can say is good luck setting it up. I will never understand how a company can have two products (Lotus Notes and OmniFind) and need to have COOPs figure out how they can work together. IBM has some cool *****, but this thing terrified me.
